Visiting PI with my Vietnamese wife. We were overdosing on Pilipino food so I was hoping to give her a respite with some Vietnamese food.

They have the makings to make it authentic but I wish they didn't add some things to adjust it for the Pinoy of they want to claim authenticity.

1. Spring rolls and the bun dishes: the addition of the tomatoes changes the taste. They need to make it an option to add.

2. Vinegar: they shouldn't add it to the nuoc mam if they want to call it authentic. Completely makes it Pilipino. I asked for the sauce without the vinegar mixed in but I was told it comes premixed. That was letdown.

Otherwise everything was decent. Fish sauce chicken wings was good.

Finding pho in a province can be tricky, but Cebu boasts of one that holds the best Pho in the city. I'd say the best pho I've ever tasted so far! Let me not get ahead of myself. The weather didn't call for pho, but my stomach did. My friend, Casey, had wanted to take Kunie G and I to crossroads the night before but circumstances changed. Now, I had so many options for lunch depending on who was available. Since Case was adamant, my stomach took on the same urgency. Come on, it's pho - clear soup always wins!

Upon alighting from the cab, I expected the place to be jam packed as it was 12:30 p.m. We found a whole bar available and took it. I was prepared to order several dishes and Casey was not prepared with what I had to order. 128514 She suggested I order a small bowl of pho since I'd be trying other stuff. Good idea! Here goes:

127836 pho special - beef broth with us angus beef, braised beef and tendon (casey's)

127836 pho bo vien - beef broth with special Vietnamese meatballs (mine)

Items we shared:
Goi cuon - rice paper rolls with chilled shrimp
Chicken satay
Us angus beef satay

I also ordered some Vietnamese coffee and she a calamansi juice.

May I say that the service was fast! The first items they served were the soup and the rice paper rolls. Oh, I got so excited! I controlled myself by taking a few shots of the food. But could not resist immediately afterwards. It was love at first sip! 10084️ the broth was clear, non-oily and sharp. It tasted clean (if there is such a term) and something I needed. I started dumping phat pho's trifecta of condiments that came with the soup - a tablespoon of vinegar with a clove of sliced garlic, hoisin sauce and a slice of lemon. I tried pouring in the items one by one and tasting it after. The taste only got better sip after sip. By the time I got to the meatball, it was such an interesting take on how fresh it was. There was vermicelli inside! Oooh! I could only clap my hands! In between soup, I tried the rolls. Must admit that I've tasted better. But the satay! My! That chicken satay was full of flavor, tender and not dry!!! This is also one of Casey's favorite dishes and I can see why she prefers this over the angus beef satay despite its juiciness. The chicken is packed with more flavor and though the beef is tender and juicier than the chicken, the flavor is somewhat lost when the juice trickles out. I loved the coffee, though Ba Noi's serves something stronger.

Phat pho can be found in Manila already. But I think I'd rather save this memory in Cebu. Trying the branch here might alter the love I have for this restaurant!

Phat Pho is Phenomenal! And considering it's an abaca group restaurant, the prices are reasonable. P225 for a small bowl of special Pho. (And ok na sa akin yung serving size.)

The best place for authentic Vietnamese food. Premium dining experience accentuated with great service that only the Abaca Group can provide.

The Pho Bo broth was pretty bland and almost watered down as if it hadn't been simmering long enough. The Goi Cuon was good though. The peanut sauce was the best tasting part of our meal.
We had to send our bowl back and the staff had to re wash all their bowls because we found grit and grime all over one of our bowls. They keep them under the good so I'm sure that's where it came from. Not worth a return trip for me.

There's no better Vietnamese restaurant in the whole of Cebu than the one by The Abaca Group, Phat Pho!

My first visit there was truly splendid! I had Pho Bo and some Vietnamese fried egg rolls that tasted good!

On my next visits (weekly, it was, to be honest), I had some of their special dishes like Cari Ga (chicken curry), Bo Kho (beef stew), Pho Xao (Vietnamese stir fried noodles), Chicken Satay, Angus Beef Satay and of course their super refreshing Goi Cuon (Vietnamese rice paper rolls)!

From then on tip this very day, my family doesn't miss a week of not visiting the place for our Viet food fix!

Service, as usual, is superb!

Had a date with the mother hen before going back to my dear Manila. Since she's currently having bad colds, I thought of bringing her to Cebu's best (and only decent) Pho joint. What better way to cure the flu than piping hot soup right?

What to order:

128155128155128155128155 Bun Bo Hue
128155128155128155128155 Fried Egg Rolls
128155128155128155128155128155 Beef Satay
128155128155128155128155 Vietnamese Coffee

Very limited seating so it's best to call in for a reservation OR come at an off-peak hour. Service, if I may add, is also excellent. 128077

Pho with Angus beef slices - sounds good on paper (or blog post) but tastes rather plain in reality. (My standard of a good pho bo is still from Pho Hoa) However, their bhan mi is surprisingly good (it better be with its P325 price) as well as the fried egg rolls with its sticky sweet dipping sauce.
