So after so many years I am onboard once again in the historic Rainbow Warrior, the research and activist boat of the environmental group Greenpeace. But i am not here to talk about my day in the life of, but the food that was served to us during the appreciation dinner. I was surprised to see Pipino as their caterer in the middle of the sea. Apparently, Greenpeace loves Pipino so much that they asked if they can serve their wonderful vegetarian menu to financial supporters, board members, staff, boat crew and volunteers onboard during their "Champions of Hope" event last Saturday evening. And the gladly obliged.

Here's what we had, pardon the photos since there was a line forming behind me while i was rush with one plate and a camera phone on both hands.

Vegetarian Pancit Bihon - thr pancit reminds me of the orange garlic pansit of Milky Way and Contis but without the chicken. It was packed with greens and mushrooms and really flavorful.

Pastel - now this is great with chicken because traditionally that should be the highlight of the dish but they managed to recreate it with just peas, carrots, potatoes and CAMOTE! Yes! SWEET POTATO as the chicken substitute.

Bokchoy with hoisin sauce - cut vertically, blanced with a drizzle of salty hoisin.

Buffalo Cauliflower - battered cauliflower with buffalo dipping sauce on the side. This was good. The cauliflawer was soft but not soggy. The buffalo sauce fooled me into thinking i was eating chicken wings.

Longganisa - made with fermented soy beans, it tastes like the real thing but not quite so.

Brown Rice - fried rice style. Not too grainy probably mixed with white rice to make it more palatable.

Sweetened bananas with sago - underripe bananas made it a firm dessert with generous helping of sago.

Turmeric Lemon Grass iced tea - strong, spicy and surprisingly healthy drink.

Pipino managed to delight the discriminating crowd onboard the Rainbow Warrior that night and would like to commend their excellent service.

Ordered cauliflower and vegetable fritters good starters. Then pochero which was i would say one of the best yet irregardless of being vegetarian or not.
Kare kare was very good thick nutty sauce albeit a bit sweeter than i would like it to be, the black bean bagoong balance it out.
Tofu skewers - tofu bit tougher than expected.
Overall excellent and the prices are very friendly.

YAY, herbivore friends! When you want to enjoy sisig, cheesecakes, cookies, embotido, buffalo wings, bistek, and more, without the guilt, this is the best place to go to! 128149 Pino Vegetarian Restaurant has vegan and vegetarian versions for you. It also offers vegan nibblers, mayo, nori, and bagoong! More reviews when I come back, coz I will definitely do!

So healthy and equally yummy! The price isn't so bad either, ready P200 - P300 for a sumptious plate of veggies. 128077 Lately, I've noticed that my tongue has been sensitive to saltiness so this place is perfect to grab some well-flavored and balanced tasty food. I really enjoyed the Veggies and Tofu Satay with its peanut sauce. My brother got their Baked Sun-Dried Tomato with flavored rice inside. 128523 Very much recommended! 128513

Pork. Lots of pork and fried dishes too! What more can make one feel so guilty, especially after undergoing a rather expensive cleansing diet? Thank goodness for the owners of Pino though for making healthy living accessible right after devouring its famous Kare-Kareng Bagnet.

Right above Pino Resto Bar is its healthier counterpart, Pipino.

Stuffed and heavy, we braved the stairs (well, it was just one flight from Pino but it looked like a mountain for us with pork-filled tummies).

For starters (and ender actually), we decided to order Mac n’ Cheeze (PHP165) along with the Tofu Scramble (PHP185). I also had the Pipino Shake to get rid of the margarita I had earlier.

First served was my pipino shake and all I could say was that it was one refreshing drink. Cucumber really has this cooling effect that made me go ooh-la-la~ and I am not exaggerating. It was rather hot that day. It was not sweet making it an ideal thirst quencher.

The Mac n’ Cheeze on the other hand was a bit bland for me. The macaroni was cooked well as it was soft and delectable to eat but the cheese flavor was a bit mild. I needed to add a bit of parmesan for it to taste, well, cheesier. Then again, I think it was their take on it being healthier.

The Tofu Scramble was also bland for me. This made me realize that my taste buds does not have a very close relationship with healthy dishes (but I love salad… with thousand island or ranch dressing though). My friends had to ask for Cayenne pepper to add kick to the bland dish. Upon reviewing the dish description, it became clear to me why it tasted as such. Based on the menu, this dish is composed of “protein-rich egg-less dish of scrambled silken tofu cooked with onions, mushroom, and bell peppers and served with taro chips”. Healthy indeed! This is a good alternative for those with high cholesterol.

Their main dishes seemed really promising (e.g. stuffed semi-dried tomatoes) so I’d definitely go back here after eating more of Pino’s Kare-Kareng Bagnet!

My friend ordered their Vegetable Pinakbet Risotto (as pictured). Fantastic plating and the taste was good! Very photogenic 128516128516 She was really full after 128516

Surprisingly good!128523

Since I am currently on a strict diet, and craving for burger, I was compelled to try PIPINO's Black Bean Burger, while my friends ordered their meats128527

Taste: 127775127775127775127775 it was surprisingly good It was my first time to eat burger with literally NO meat on it and I was satisfied, although it lacks those fat that are actually sinful but heavenly good but this burger was fresh and filling too128523

Hold back that 5th star since it took 20mins for my burger to arrive plus they didn'g have kale chips and so I ended up with taro chips instead which was really tough and cold128513 (the burger comes with some sides by the way)

if i knew how to cook vegetables like this. i would be a vegetarian everyday!

veggie kare kare: awesome job with the black bean bagoong!! i didnt miss the meat at all.

semi dried stuffed mushroom tomato. - was good but the description had me thinking it was a mushroom stuffed with sun dried tomato. this dish impressed my indian vegetarian guest.

so glad we have a vegetarian filipino resto in town!

Loved the freshness of Kale and Malunggay Pesto. I just wish they added more parmesan to make it balanced with the onion rings on top. I didn't get the chance to taste buckwheat noodles because I think they ran out so they replaced it with linguini. Hence, it's still okay. 128077

We had dinner here last saturday before our mystery manila date. Since I decided to perpetually cut red meat out of my diet(flexitarian), M started researching for flexitarian and vegetarian friendly restaurants. I've heard about Pipino before but I never thought I would order or try their food since I used to order just in Pino and Breakfast and Pies. Anyway, I tried their eggplant tofu miso with brown rice. Since I love gata, I enjoyed this dish. However, I think their serving size is kind of small for its price. I also had their lemongrass cooler with cucumber. It was refreshing but nothing special. I want to try their cucumber and mint shake next time. On the other hand, my carnivorous boyfriend ordered in Pino their sisig rice and iced tea pitcher. The food quality is just okay but the service is good. Will definitely come back!

The best dish here is the vegetarian kare-kare.

We've tried several things but by far, my favorite is the kare-kare. I can't eat the regular kare-kare but the vegetarian version is great. Love their peanut sauce and the vegetables are fresh.

The bagoong is red bean based. I also don't like regular bagoong but their bagoong is great. I always ask for extra bagoong when I order and they always oblige.

We keep on trying different dishes here but I always come back to the vegetarian kare-kare.

Btw, they're a vegetarian restaurant, their focus is on recreating vegetable/vegetarian dishes. They don't have veggie meat here.

First of all, I can’t really give a decent review for this one since I am not so much into vegetables. I’m a total carnivore to be honest. But my friend invited me so what the hell. We tried their vegetable lumpia and their best seller, the Portobello Inasal. It was just okay. It tasted so “naturey” and healthy, I could hear my blood cells singing in joy, but not me. The Portobello inasal was good but it lacks that “zing” and wow-factor. Overall, I would only recommend this restaurant to vegetarians and to health-conscious people who are into that stuff.

I got the portobello mushroom inasal because the waiter told me it was one of their best sellers. It was pretty good, although I think it needed more of the inasal marinade or whatever. :)) It's a bit pricey though for two medium mushroom caps.

I want to come back though to try out the vegan lasagna (I have to taste how it's lives without cheese), the watermelon steak, and their desserts!

Btw, it's easier to pay in cash. Their credit card system is really slow for some reason.

Good vegetarian dishes and they also served meats; a must try is their bangnet Kate Kare. Good flavored pints of beer as well. I prefer to go to their original location in UP village; mostly because if the vibe and interiors.

The food is good and almost reasonably priced. We had binagoongang bagnet and it was very crispy and tasty. One single order costs about 250+. My son had seafood karekare, a single order which comes with rice and it was also good. Ditto with my husband's sinigang na salmon which is good for three. we will surely go back and try the other dishes that I saw from the other customers' table...
