Celebrated my older brothers birthday dinner last night. He choose this place since the family loves steaks and because the restaurant will waive the wine corkage after a minimum price is reached. Fair enough.
He ordered:
Calamares... Delicious! Not a fan of the sauce tho.
4 cheese croquettes... FTW!
Jalapeño poppers... This restaurant nailed it!
Chorizo croquette... Not bad
We also ordered 1 lamb shank... Tender meaty, juicy, delicious done right but to much tomato for me.( personal preference)
2 prime 101 signature rib eye steaks 800 grams each cooked medium rare ( wc came out too rare). No biggie tho. Steaks were delicious! Love the assorted salts! We washed this down w 2 french reds from France 2013 telegramme chateneuf de pape and a 2012 talbot from st julien.
A simple restaurant that does simple food extra ordinarily well!

Well I had photos of steak and mahi-mahi and appetizers and another dessert but I chose this one because look at that dessert! I mean, it's so pretty!!! 128525128514

For my birthday, my boyfriend took me to Prime101 which, I must say was pretty hard to find. The place was like a spin off of a furniture store. 128514 it was pretty homey and cozy and since my birthday fell on a monday night there weren't that many people. 9786

The staff were very nice and accommodating. We felt comfy right away! 9786️ They explained the whole freestyle dining concept and recommended a lot of dishes.

We started with the croquetas which were really yummy. I am such a sucker for cheese it hurts. 128514

For mains, i got the mahi-mahi and the steak for the boyfriend. 128514 he loved his steak especially with the truffle foie gras sauce that came with it. I loved the sauce that came with my mahi-mahi too, i couldn't tell what it was I just knew it was pretty sweet and citrus-y. Lime, i bet. 9786

I have to say, we weren't so fond of the side dishes though. The mushroom risotto was bordering rice on dryness and the mashed potato was pretty bland. I still can't bear to deduct a star though since we really did enjoy our meal!

We got this for dessert! Fried dark choco mousse in a sphere of spun sugar! Presentation was amazingggggg. And dark chocolate 128525

They also gave me free bread pudding with a salted caramel sweet sauce saying Happy Birthday. Pretty sweet of them! 9786

We would definitely love to head backkkk!! 128525128525

3rd time's a charm --- not! Well, let's just say that while this place still serves good food, the service has deteriorated. A lot. Parang takot yung mga server sa tao! Hihihihi. Either that or they were trying to be snotty. Either way, pffftttt. Turn off! My hubby had to go several times to the bar, just to holler a waiter. I used to like this place a lot, but with today's less than par service, I'd rather go to some place like Mamou that also serves succulent steaks and has always provided excellent service. Sorry, Prime. Next time, when one of your servers offers to take our photo, pls tell him/her not to crop everyone in the picture. It's just rude. Like a French waiter. C'est terrible!

Prime 101 is your first anniversary, valentines, all-around special occasion kind of place.

It's a spin-off the furniture shop, meant to showcase the wonderful interior design.

Ordered the jalapeno poppers, osso bucco, and truffle pasta and wished i could eat some more (stuffed!). It offers freestyle cooking (you pick the ingredients and ask for whatever you want).

Great design, intimate ambiance, and delicious food. 100841008410084

We came here for our makeup valentines dinner. Since it was late we decided to order one entree and 3 appetizers to limit the portion and taste more dishes.

Our three appetizers are the portobello mushroom, jalapeño poppers and crab meat with lemon honey.

The portobello mushroom appetizer is soooo unbelievably rich and delicious. When you take a bite, that earthy flavor of mushroom along the foie infuses cheese just explodes in your mouth. They provide you with extra blue cheese sauce on the side but there's really ok need for it.

The jalapeño poppers are surprisingly yummy. It's not a whole jalapeño that they fry with cheese but a puréed I believe. But doing so made the jalapeño flavors (and spiciness) come out a lot stronger, while the cheese they used paired perfectly with the jalapeño without overpowering it. each popper packs a bit of heat so don't order it if you don't eat spicy.

The crab appetizer is just so-so. Interesting concept but the crab didn't taste too fresh or maybe it wasn't seasoned well. The lemon honey was a tad too sweet. Wouldn't recommend it.

On to the star of the night. We ordered the 500g super prime. To be honest...I'm a bit disappointed. The steak is a bit too charred and came out mostly rare (we ordered medium). For what they claimed to be super prime, the meat also has too much tendons that snag at the steak knife when we cut thru.
It is very very tender and has great beef flavor. But just wish it was prepared better given the cost.

Ordering the 500g is the right choice. We couldn't even finish the whole steak between me and hubby. Needless to say, we also had to skip dessert. Boo.

I'm definitely keen to come back and eat my beloved portobello again! Not to mention give their steak another try (but so far, Mamou remains to be my favorite steak place).

Quite possibly THE BEST steaks in the Metro!

I feel kinda guilty to only have visited this place now - as the Chef (Marco) is my grade school classmate. Better late than never!

So we started off with a Greek Salad - as our futile attempt of putting some semblance of health to our order. Then had their Portobello Mushrooms as recommended (uh-mazing!) then proceeded with a medium cooked 500g Super Prime Ribeye. For dessert it, Marco gave us a complimentary Fried Belgian Torte with Chocolate Mousse (sinful!)

For convenience, I'll be comparing their steak with Elbert's Steak Room (ESR)- since their steaks are of similar caliber. I prefer Marco's for a couple reasons:

First, is you get more grammage for the price. Elbert's Super Prime costs about the same (or a tad more expensive) as the Marco's 500g SP, but I remember being able to scarf the former down handily - so that probably puts it at 300-400g (the site doesn't advertise the grammage, so I'm just interpolating) but it comes with complimentary soup/salad.

Personally though, if we're talking premium prices, I prefer to be paying for the premium ingredient (the meat) ALONE - for better value. Unless of course that soup or salad is "super special" in their own right.

Also, it comes with a sauce and various infused rock salts. Naturally, the steak is good enough to stand on its own, but it's very thoughtful to allow one to "experiment" with the taste - like having a more smokey or spicy flavor or having it with a sauce (personally I kinda cheated preferred the mushrooms' truffle cheese sauce over the sauce that cam with the steak)

Secondly, I prefer Marco's doneness on his steaks - Elbert usually overcooks one notch higher. Not really a problem: I go medium rare with them when I usually order medium from everyone else. ESR does have more of that "char grilled" flavor to it - which I like. But Prime101 can easily adjust the cooking style to your preference (more on that in a bit) so it's not really an advantage anymore.

ESR does beat Prime101 in the ambience department (by a considerable margin) - but they both have the "I can't believe there's this beautiful place inside this unassuming building" vibe going on for them - both are excellent date places.

Most importantly though, is the sheer versatility of Marco's culinary skills.

You see, the concept of Prime101 is to serve the best basic raw ingredients (hence the name) that any high brow eater would usually prefer - so it's not just steaks, it's the best type of pork, the best type of fish, etc. And you then can ask the Chef to cook it any way you want. Persian, Greek, Italian, Malaysian, you name it! Marco's got the chops to deliver. EVERYTHING is made from scratch - from the complimentary bread (and butter) to the sauces and infused rock salts that come with your steak.

While this isn't necessarily the best idea to try with your steaks (as a GOOD steak's strength lies in its straightforwardness and simplicity), I can imagine this concept to be particularly interesting with their other main dishes.

Essentially, Prime 101 can cater to both your "comfort" and "experimental" gastronomic sensibilities. And will surely tempt you to try their other creations because of it.

The next time, I'm gonna try their Lamb Chops and see what Marco can muster as a unique take on the classic mint sauce I take with my lamb :)

The portobello mushroom is a must have. The dish of the night for me but everything else is really made well. From the super prime steak to the foie gras dumplings , garlic squid, chicken sambal and the pudding for dessert

the service was excellent and the resto design (which is within a furniture showroom) was quite nice.

A bit on the pricey side but anytime you order a quality steak in this country , it will be costly. The Classic , you get what you pay for.

Did not know what to expect, since I haven't heard of this place (yes, I've been so out of it). So when my hubby brought me to this non-descript location along Pasong Tamo, I was like "where are you taking me?" Lo and behold, as the doors of this wonderful place opened, I was in Disneyland. 128111 Service was very professional. Wait staff attentive but not too chummy-chummy (which is what restaurants of this caliber need). First up were the dumplings with foie gras and truffles. Yes, foie gras and truffles. Two of the finest indulgences in the world -- in one (or two if you're prim and proper) amazing bite. Words cannot describe the sublimeness of this dish. If I were any more appreciative, I would have done a Meg Ryan in that restaurant in "When Harry Met Sally" but nah, dalagang Pilipina pa rin ako. Hehehe! Also had the tomato soup which was tasty and went well with their sundried tomato flavored bread. But the piece de resistance? The rib eye which was cooked to perfection. Wash it all down with a bottle of red and viola, the start of an awesome date night. 128107

I first read about Prime 101 from Peanut D and Odell R. From their reviews alone, I knew that this was my kind of restaurant. This place is impossible to find if you haven't actually read about it from reviews or articles. It's located in a pretty old building, you take a wooden spiral stairs up to the 2nd level where you will find a glass door into a showroom. At first I was second guessing myself if I was actually at the right place. There was no reception by the door so I just went in.

Once inside, the dining area looks like a very comfy home (a very expensive home to be exact). Furniture pieces are everywhere and from what I read it actually is a furniture showroom and the pieces are for sale. Everything looks beautiful and high end, make sure you don't break anything! 128517

I was handed a menu for appetizer and mains, but what you should really be looking at is the chalk board in the middle of the room. I was salivating reading through that board! USDA prime ribeye, super prime ribeye, seabass, salmon, tuna, the list goes on and I wish my stomach could have space for every item on that chalkboard lol 128055

I could only eat so much, so decided to get their baked portobello mushrooms for appetizers and the prime ribeye (500g slab of pure joy). They were delicious, if you are a fan of mushrooms I suggest you ignore the price tag and just savor the moment. The mushroom is injected with spinach foie gras and topped with truffle cheese, I also liked their bleu cheese dip, the amag taste wasn't overpowering and it mixed well with the mushrooms flavor. 4 stars for this!

The highlight was of course my steak, 500g seared to perfection, toasted with a crunchy exterior and cooked enough to have a juicy soft tender pinkish interior. One of the best steaks I've had so far, probably on par with Elbert's (although I haven't had the really expensive ones at Elbert's). I also liked the tray of sea salts they served with the steak, I tried each one and enjoyed the paprika the most, definitely a new experience for me. The only downside though was that I got a huge chunk of fat on my steak, which I just set aside. I will still have to give this 5 stars, the way they prepared the meat was perfect. 128076

I whipped out my looloo app to look for dessert recommendations and immediately spotted the deep fried dark choco mousse. It's dark chocolate mousse filled fried bun encrusted in caramelized sugar that looks like a nest. Fancy dish we got here, but this was the least favorite part of my whole meal. The caramelized sugar was a nice touch and I appreciate the presentation, but what ruined it for me was the fried bun. The taste was a bit overpowering, medyo maalat with a bit of a burnt taste, didn't like that part. The dark chocolate mousse was really delicious though. Probably have to give this 3 stars.

If you enjoy a good steak, this is definitely a must try. Will have to save up to be able to go back though! 128184

P.S. Finally my 💯th review, took me a while to get here! 127881127882127881 Woohoo at last!!

A gem hidden in a very unassuming location. The wooden stairs leading up to the second floor location is creaky, worn and full of nicks and chips, and you would question if you truly are in the right place while ascending them. However, once you finally get to the top, the restaurant itself is a sight to behold. Tastefully chosen art pieces complement an ecletic but elegant choice of furniture that, although highly varied, seem to somehow work together so harmoniously. 128522

The same can certainly be said of their food. They have menus where you can get a feel of what they can offer you, but in reality the options are quite limitless. 128522 A huge blackboard near the center of the place contains a list of their available produce, and since the concept of their restaurant is "freestyle" cooking you can specify which ingredient goes where and how it's cooked (from the kind of cuisine down to how "well-done" you would like your food to be).

You'd think that with such a bold concept, they couldn't possibly be a master of everything and deliver on each dish perfectly. Au contraire! Everything we had was divine, from the portobello mushroom with cheese and special sauce (that tasted exactly like fried chicken in liquid form to me, which is always good in my book), their 1000g steak (which my two brothers split between them), oysters in chinese spoon with foie gras, and my crusted lamb with mint jelly and truffle foie gras sauce. I felt like I was on a hunt, uncovering treasure with every dish that arrived on our table. 128522

Prices are indeed steep, so be sure to bring a good amount of money if you plan on dining here. I'll tell you that it's definitely worth the price, though, as the impeccable and very hands-on service they offer along with the ambience and superb quality of your meal makes for such a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
