If I had to stay here for the rest of my life, then a cute little golden retriever would be my alarm; a breathe of fresh air would be my breakfast and a life of peace and serenity would be my everyday life. I wouldn't mind escaping the hustling city I am accustomed of to a taste of life in the countryside with healthy and sumptuous food choices. And maybe by then I have life figured out.

Punong Gary's Place is a hidden gem of Silay and as much as I wanted to keep this place to myself but since I love looloo, I'm gonna share this with you.

Punong Gary's Place is located at Silay but almost near the boundary of Silay and EB Magalona. It's a hacienda that's in the middle of a sugar cane rice field. So when you get there, you can feel like you're one with nature and it's so relaxing. The place is a few hectares big, and you need to have a reservation prior entry. With that you can expect an intimate time with your love ones. The place is divine. It's filled with balete trees and other old architectural balinese stuffs. It's relaxing, and very serene. It's like living in isolation and having this retreat to pause from the fast life we usually have.

They have casitas for overnight stays but limited to five only. Max of 4 person per casitas. The regular one is Php 8,500 while the more superior one is Php 12,000++. If you think it's pricey then you can still visit the place by choosing to avail their lunch or dinner course meal which we did. For lunch, it's Php 750 while dinner is at Php 950. If you wish to dip into their pool but on a lunch or dinner option, then you only need to pay Php 150 to enjoy it. Lunch is served from 11am to 3pm. While dinner is at 5pm to 9pm. They are close every Monday.

Evaluating the five course meal we had goes a little something like this:

Appetizers: Chicken Ala King Popover, Taro Chips and Kang-kong crisp. I gotta say all of them is interesting. With the chicken ala king being my personal favorite. Taro chips are good too. Crispy but not too deep fried. No extra coating as well just its natural flavors of both salty and sweet. Kang-kong crisp is interesting.

Salad: Tahini Salad. This one is served in a deep fried bowl like that you can also eat. It has lettuce with fresh fruits that's in season like mango, avocado, dragon fruit. The dressing which is tahini is made of sesame oil and seeds and it's a perfect match to all the fresh flavors in your plate. It's actually refreshing.

Soup: Creamy Pumpkin Soup. Now this one is creamy indeed. I cannot find the words. Creamy and very smooth in texture. Perfectly blended pumpkin that's sweet with that extra creamy taste.

Main Course: Osso Bucco and Chicken with Bolognese sauce. Osso Bucco is like hot pot beef that's slow cooked into this stew like texture. It has this rich tomato flavor and the beef is tender and soft. You can taste the flavor even from within. While the Chicken with Bolognese sauce is divine. It's like chicken parmigiano except it's more sour in flavor, and nothing too umay cause of enough melted cheese. Since it's bolognese there's this ground pork inside and I really like the tomato based sauce. I love how sour it is! But the rice is served very small. But the meats, oh my, big in serving. You can actually share one serving for two. By the time you're done with your soup you're almost full so having the Main is like. I am a fatty by the end of this review. Haha.

Dessert: Yogurt Mango Mix. Oh my! I didn't realize that yogurt mixed with some kalamansi could taste really good. I am in love with its flavor! I like the sour kick coupled with some sweet mangoes to your yogurt to balance your meal.

I am definitely full after our five course meal. The food is tasty. The place is such a beauty. The staffs are nice and very accommodating. I mean, I wouldn't ask for anything more.

The place is more accessible via private cars but feasible via commute. Should you wish to commute from Bacolod, you can ride a bus at Ceres North Terminal bound to Silay. Ordinary bus only but of cheap fare. Just Php 15. Then get off at Mercury Drug in Silay, charter a tricycle going to Punong Gary's. We chartered one and it cost us Php 150 which is a good price already. You can also contact kuya (which I forgot the name), (0919) 258 2114. And he can take you there. He speaks good tagalog and really kind so we were lucky for his offer.

For reservations you can contact, +63 917 327 1729.

Next time you're at Silay, and you wanted a different place to give you a quick retreat over a tasty meal. This is definitely that one place! I really adore the place so much that I will go back and given a chance I wanted one of my own.
