Loko itong Chowking. Kung kelan nag summer duon pa sila naubusan ng stock.

I placed 11 orders of halo-halo online for the entire household the other Sunday. A lady called me 15 minutes after just to inform me that they were not available at that time.

So Chowking's loss was Razon's gain.

Razon's halo-halo was not as colorful as Chowking's -- representing dull earthy colors instead.

You couldn't really distinguished what it was you just stuffed into your mouth until you were chewing on it already.

By the time I reached the bottom of the cup, I think I tasted sweet beans, macapuno, banana, leche flan and some hints of cheese.

I may have gotten some of that wrong. Or I may have missed some components. One thing's for sure, Razon's trumps Chowking any day, every day.

Lastly, one of the best things about their halo-halo is the finely shaven ice. That alone is enough to give this Filipino fave five stars.

Disclaimer: the rating is for the halo-halo only. 128513

Still the best halo-halo for me! With its 3 sweet ingredients (banana, macapuno, and leche flan... Oh! The leche flan!) and the magic powdered ice... Wow. Not to filling, not to drowning, not too diabetes-inducing dessert/merienda. 128522

Simple is still beautiful.

But that only applies to the halo-halo, ok? 128540

The Pancit Luglog was also simple but it was too simple for me. It was promising in terms of taste, and the noodles was cooked al dente... if they were just generous with the chicha-crunchyyyyy-ron and the sauce, it would have been perfect. 128522

Buti I brought the iPad with me... First time to write a review while still eating. Wooot! Sorry piled-up/pending write-ups, I had to know how it feels128513

Still reeling from a Pampanga hangover, I headed for the nearest Razon's just to get another sisig fix.

They serve the dry kind of sisig, best when toasted to a slight crisp.

After having the original at Aling Lucing's, it was difficult not to compare. Price-wise, Aling Lucing's was slightly more expensive. But then again, their serving size was twice as much as Razon's. Taste-wise, Aling Lucing's can stand on its own while Razon's version may need a few shakes of seasoning and hot sauce to improve its flavor.

But since Aling Lucing's is not easily accessible, Razon's is a more than adequate alternative to the original. Since both establishments originated in Pampanga, you still win in the end.

This review just gave me my fourth badge! Woohoo! 128165127881127882127883
