Another food trip day with my boss. Maiba lang, we went to Jupiter and was choosing between Pino and Recess by Chef Chris. We saw the latter first so we decided to just eat there.

Not a single table was occupied when arrived so we got a bit hesitant. Bakit walang customer? Baka di masarap?128528 But their staff opened the door and greeted us already so there's no way to back out.

We ordered the Platinum Panizza (127775127775127775127775) and Chili and Garlic Shrimp (127775127775). While waiting, they handed us a bowl of popcorn to munch on. The shrimp arrived first and we were disappointed. 8 small pieces of shrimps with thin slices of garlic toasts on the side for P490. Hold up 'to! (we ended up trying to guess their Cost vs. Mark up coz this dish seemed to be really overpriced!) 128530 We enjoyed the panizza though. An order has 6 slices, good for two people to share. It's tomato infused cheese sauce topped with angus beef, bacon, pineapples and mushrooms. Reminded me of Bacon Cheeseburger + Hawaiian Pizza. Yumm. 128077 They didn't have arugula available yesterday so we only had a bowl of alfa alfa sprouts to go with the panizza.

I like the interiors of the place. The school set up looks cute. 9786

Ambiance :11088110881108811088
periodic table with elements on it's ceiling, lockers and blackboard walls, feels like I'm
Back in campus , nice directional spot lights as general lighting, & shelves of books as wallpapers like the walks going to the bathroom

I came only for the panizza .. Tho others are good.. But nothing much to fuzz about

Star dish :1108811088110881108811088
PANIZZA of course127881127881
TIN SN 50 (chorizo bacon ham salami assorted peppers & mushrooms, oat wheat paper thin crust, new cheese sauce & serve with a bowl of greens- aragula & alfalfa). It's just so good the regular size is said to serve 5-7 pax(Not when I'm around)128541

Other dishes :110881108811088
Peppered steak is a blackboard special .. Cooked perfectly..but Nothing remarkable maybe it's overshadowed by the panizza. It's served with creamed spinach & fries

Curried pumpkin soup .. A big bowl to share for 2 or 3...Light not the creamy type I dislike , seasoned with the right amount of curry.. Perfect to my palate .. Yum

Service :11088110881108811088
We're the only people around .. Service was okay but servers where aloof 128543

I'll be back only for the panizza ...

Price point :128184128184(300-600)

Mehh. Had the double trouble burger, creole catfish, lamb korma, and salad J50.

Food was okay. Cooked well, decent flavors. But if you take into account the price, not so much.. Three of us had to shell out almost 900 each for what we ordered. Too pricey in my opinion.

Maybe I expect too much for there roll-up pizza. To achieve that thinnest in the dough you need to be an expert, but honestly aside from thinnest nothing extra ordinary for there regular roll pizza (they claim good for 4-5persons but honestly good for 2person only) super konti ng toping nito, we ordered 2 different flavors of regular size pizza php870 each for 4 of us, I can't distinguish ang pinag kaiba ng 2 sa super konti ng topping at small ng pizza.
Kung ako studiante at recess I won't eat here, hindi ka kasya baon ko for there serving.
For sure di na kami babalik.

We had pizza, pasta, and soup.

And... Honestly:

Without considering the price: it was good.

Considering the price: it was disappointing.

The place is casual dinning with asian twists on italian dishes.

And honestly it's just meh "okay"

Why?
1. Soup was not hot when it got to my table it seemed just heated
2. Pasta seemed just heated too and not pipping fresh and hot
3. Pizza roll up was good but not WOW Awesome!

And for the 800 and up price per head, i'd go to LUSSO OR CIBO instead.

Yeah. Sorry but i need to be honest :(

Sincerely,
A disappointed customer

I was both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised when I realized that their ceiling had different elements from the periodic table written on hexagonal rings (I remember drawing those A LOT of times in org chem. It wasn't fun). Why? I've taken up general, analytical, organic and bio chemistry (and barely passed LOL) so seeing anything chemistry related naturally makes me cringe.128514 I was happy at the same time because well, at least I still remember stuff from the 4 semesters I took chemistry... 128547128534 And I was glad that I got that chemistry phase of my university life over with... For now. 128521

I was overwhelmed when I was handed their menu because there were still elements written on it so I was trapped! Only this time, it was in BOLD. 128514 I tried to avoid the first page which had that but I ended up ordering their Pt 78 (Pt for Platinum, while 78 is its atomic number -- yes I googled to double check 128514), a panizza with tomato infused cheese sauce topped with angus burger, bacon, and mushroom. I also got their fried golden mozzarella thing for our appetizer. Both items were really good. 128563 I didn't expect myself to like both so much! I mean usually (at least for me ah), nicely plated food end up tasting MEH. It's like I can't really have both the good presentation and the great taste in one serving but wow the mozzarella was pretty good. And it looked nice pa! So was the panizza! I haven't had panizza before so I didn't know what to do with the glass of alfalfa (alfalfa hehehe) and arugula that came with it. I asked the guy what that was for and basically I just had to spread them on top of the pizza and roll the strip. Yum!

My dad got their Lengua Estufado in brown sauce while my mom ordered their salad (forgot which salad though). All of the items we got were a hit! My dad even liked his mashed potatoes! He doesn't even like mashed potatoes. He was so happy with the mashed potatoes that he literally stuffed mine and mom's plate with them. He said he wanted to share the goodness of the mashed potatoes which were actually really good!

I loved how the place looked. It looked cool, it was clean, and though the place had a school theme, it still had a classy feel to it. Service was great too. We came in probably less than an hour before closing time. I thought they wouldn't welcome us anymore but surprise surprise, all of the servers were actually still nice! We ended up leaving 15 minutes after closing time and Gelo, who was the waiter assigned to us, was still doing his thaaang with a smile. 128076 We even had our photo taken with their Instax so you'll see that photo somewhere in the resto but good luck trying to find it as there are A LOT of photos of happy customers on their walls.

We redeemed their looloo special btw so woohoo! Thanks looloo! | We got their free turon with ice cream! The turon was huge, unlike other turons from other restaurants. Its size was like that of a legit turon you get from legit turon sellers you approach for merienda! 128561

Thank you chef Chris L for Recess! We'll definitely come back for more! 128055

Such an interesting place, i failed to check out their specials on the board when i ordered the spaghetti Tara already. Bummer!

I liked the ambience and the crowd. I arrived late for brunch with the ladies and i was starving also!! Perfect timing to eat! Staff is attentive and service is fast. Bathroom's also clean.

Food's good but i found the portions a little small or maybe because i shared it and people left me all the olives in my pasta! 128545 heehee! The panizza's OK. Wasn't exceptionally tasty or maybe it was cold from sitting out too long. I would wanna try another flavor.

Was really satisfied with the service though. Am willing to go back to try other items on the menu.

P.S. I got to use their looloo special. It was my first time to use it. And it was superb!!! Not because it was free ah!! The turon wasn't so sweet and the ice cream was yummy!!! 128522 good combo!!

The original and STILL the best panizzas in Manila. I tried 2 Pinoy Originals and they were both surprisingly good!

I thought the sweetness of the PoTo (pork tocino) would be overpowering but it provided a great contrast to the umami flavor of the salted egg and cheese. The BaBa (bangers aka sausages and bacon) was also delicious, the smokey flavors of the meats work very well.

The crust remains to be paper-thin and super crispy (aaah, heaven!). My only complaint is their panizzas are priced slightly higher than the competition but I guess that's the premium you have to pay for getting the best!

It's another one of the sub brands by Chef Chris. Same original panizza that we've come to know with C! and My Kitchen.

You'll always go for a panizza, the sub brands tend to cater to specific groups of people. Here in Recess, servings were available for couples or big groups while C! and My Kitchen were more meant for families and big groups.

We had the platinum panizza and the special chicken curry. Flavor was good and tasty!

Will go back to try the other dishes. Go during off peak hours as the place gets full easy with the reservations.

The TiTo was excellent! Love the light, crispy crust and a fresh take on the toppings. It had smoked bangus, and salted eggs.
Our crispy catfish was very good and tasty too! And the dessert was to die for! All this would have been perfect if the staff knew what they were doing.
During the first visit, the manager was clearing the table and I wasn't even done with the appetizer yet. And then not one staff knew about the free dessert and the code they were supposed to give me. Worse, no one caught that I was also entitled to the same dessert because our bill exceeded their minimum requirement. Good thing @looloo came to my rescue.
Second visit, I intended to get my free dessert. And that one went fine. What got my goat was that the server again cleared the dishes when we were not yet done with our meals! Seriously! What's the rush??? I called the manager and reminded her that it seemed to be the habit of everyone in the restaurant to clear without permission. Was it not the practice to ask, "may I clear this?" ? I thought one also did the same thing at home - so it's a no-brainer. But, I guess, I was wrong. I reminded the manager that she, too, was guilty of the same thing!
After everything was said and done, the servers were quite careful to ask before clearing the plates.

Ranting aside, the food was really good. I thought the cannelloni was ok but some of my friends raved about it.

The mussels was good also! And so is their special turon! I would like to try their meat dishes next time!

It's not a picture of their famous panizza because we inhaled that mother as soon as it landed on our table. We had the mini Platinum PT 78 (P400), a panizza covered with tomato-infused cheese sauce, topped with Angus beef (✅, see below for significance of this icon), pineapple, and mushrooms. I usually ask my lunch dates if they won't mind me eating with my hands, but I just dove right in there. So, so good. I kept eating at the risk of my skirt ripping. "Busog na busog na ako, Stephanie D," I told my friend during dessert. "Ako rin," she said. "Pero kung may panizza pa tayo, kakain pa rin ako." Belly bump moment.

We were gunning for the free turon and ice cream with a minimum bill of P1,000 (excluding drinks) thanks to looloo, so we ordered Recess' Golden Baked Mozzarella (P320) and the Salad J50 (P390) to share. Everything looked delicious on their menus attached to clipboards. Our selection technique: Focus on key words, like bacon and beef.

Salad J50 is composed of Romaine hearts tossed in a dreamy creamy gamonzola dressing, topped with crispy capers, pear slices, bacon (✅), and a 7-minute boiled egg. When I think of salad, I think of ladies who brunch – you know, classy broads who wear pearls and curl their hair before going out of the house. I was trying to act like one earlier, but no, alas. I just kept shoving forkfuls of this great salad into my mouth. It's good for 3 people or 1 very hungry lady.

But the real showstopper for me was the mozzarella block that I thought would come out as cheese sticks. You could hit someone on the face with this dish and they'd thank you for such a blessing. I just really, really love cheese. So much. One of the great loves of my life, cheese is. The mozzarella came to us sitting languidly in a bath of mushrooms and bold, tangy pomodoro sauce. At some point, a waiter came by our table to clear it of empty plates, and he touched our mozzarella dish. I WENT ON HIGH ALERT, like a mother poised to defend her cub from a predator, my cheese-sense tingling! In Steph's words, "I channeled my inner Gollum." NO! MY PRECIOUS! KILLS THE WAITERSES, MY PRECIOUS!

...is what I would have told him had he really taken our plate away, but he just moved it to the side so he could refill our water glasses. They were very vigilant with refills, I loved that. Steph wanted to leave a good spoonful of pomodoro sauce left because our tummies were at the brink of explosion, but I would not have that. I would not have that. Sinimot ko ang plato.

Recess' Special Turon (P280) was fantastic as well, not just because it was free. Imagine bananacue na ginawang turon, generously topped with an fat scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel sauce. YUMMMMM, Emma Stone style.

Ang dami ko nang nasabi, I haven't even touched on the decor. The theme was obviously school-related, so I expected blackboard menus, plastic chairs and tables, – fixtures you'd normally eat on and see during recess. But this place is pretty swanky, yo. It's an appropriately fun place to have business meetings in or hang out after work. Steph and I even chanced upon Nina Daza-Puyat, EIC of Appetite, and her team dining there. They called Chef Chris out of the kitcen, talked to him about his food, and took pictures. Ah, it must be nice to work in food-related publishing, where eating could count as legit work. I'm only 23! I can still change careers! 128547

Will definitely come back for the other panizza types and, of course, the mozzarella block. Excellent service, delicious food, and a great concept. Five for you, Recess!
