I’m sure that for most of you, when you hear Recipes (the restaurant) the first thing that comes to mind is General’s Chicken. Am I right? Yes! Hahaha

Anyway, we ate here because my boyfriend was craving. I usually decide where to eat, but this time we went for his pick! 128148 I must admit when it comes to food, it wasn’t easy for me to not get what I want. Hahaha just kidding! Recipes was a good call, apart from the good food I’ve had here before, the serving time was fast. Because we were catching a movie in less than an hour before dinner, this was perfect!

We had General’s Chicken, Café Metro Lengua, and Chicharon Bulaklak! Mwahaha! His pick, my pick, and our pick, accordingly. 128107 And then we also had Café Metro Garlic Rice, which is just their regular garlic rice but with soy sauce.

Of course, we started off with the Chicharon Bulaklak.128076 It was crisp and salty and chewy. It was really good!

And then not long after, our main dishes came. It was my first time to (finally!!!) try General’s Chicken and what I tasted was exactly how I imagined it to taste like. It’s basically bite-sized fried chicken basted with a sweet sauce and with some slice of eggplants. It kind of reminded me of BonChon, but a more sophisticated version with toned down flavors. It’s not nakakaumay. Although, I think it would have been better with plain rice, instead of the garlic with soy sauce one that makes it overwhelming.

For the lengua, it was a big serving. But other than the serving size, there’s not much to rave about it, which was a let-down. 128542

All the food we had wasn’t really hot, and I like hot food… So I think that also adds to why I didn’t enjoy the food as much. I mean, we both got really full! As in empasto na 128055 hahaha but I think our experience could be better the next time.

For lunch today, I had one and a half order of rice and a cup, or rather, bowl of onions!!! 128522

Ordered Bangus Steak Tagalog and I was ecstatic when it was served with lots and lots of white crisp onion rings on it. It was my first time to order from their Rice+1 Meals so I was kind of surprised that the serving was actually good for sharing. This Bangus Steak was also far from the usual food we order here -- Gising-gising, Crispy Tilapia and General's Chicken; and I was happy I deviated from that. For only Php175, it's so sulit, as it included a drink as well.

My friend ordered their Beef Tapa with Egg (Php185) also from the Rice+1 menu, and of course, I ate some, since again, serving size was for sharing. Enjoyed her order too! The beef was tender and salty at the level my taste buds love!

This is what my regular order looks like, either the General's Chicken or the crispy tilapia. 128521 I love Recipes for all the right reasons. It is affordable for quality Filipino food. I would usually go for Gising Gising which is string beans in coconut milk, their tasty crispy tilapia which is in fillet form, and this general's chicken which I have no idea how it's made but who care it's tasty. I have also tried their Kare-Kare and it taste great too. Their calamansi shake is superb. Sweet and sour on both ends. Recipes is always a great place to satisfy your Filipino cravings. Really affordable, and a go-to place for me.

Hadn't had gising-gising in a while and for me, nothing beats Recipes here. They didn't have our other favorite dish - crispy tilapia - but the crispy bangus was a good substitute. (Don't let it get cold or it turns too tough.) The last of our go-to dishes was General's Chicken but I wanted to try the tofu version thinking it was like Lugang's. Lo and behold. Get ready for fish ball tofu. Perhaps it needs to be crunchier and...tastier? It really was just tofu, no peppers, green onions or even nuts to provide variety to the texture.

Will definitely come back for their "General's Chicken" 128525 It was sweet and a little bit spicy. I think two can share for one order. It was worth it for its price. It was around P260 with rice. You must try this! 128522 128077🏼

Family dinner after movie bonding. Mama suggested this place. I was quite curious as to what this restaurant has to offer since I usually see this in malls but never did I manage to look at their menu. Surprisingly they offer Filipino cuisine for a measly price!

We entered the place and first thing I noticed is the smell of the place! It was kinda suffocating and nauseatic. It was not fragrant nor putrid but it was painful to smell. It's like the strong smelled air freshener was mixed up with the smell of the food. I git used to it anyway as if I had a choice.

We got to place our orders. Mama instantly ordered Kare-Kare and their Gising-Gising. My brother wanted Crispy Tilapia. And since they all ordered the best sellers, I added another bestseller to the list, their General's Chicken since I'm also a fan of chicken.

The food all tasted great. The Kare-Kare was of delicious however not "peanut-y". Crispy Tilapia was all good as well. Perfectly crispy and boneless. The General's Chicken tasted sweet. It's like chicken fingers dipped in honey glaze. I was kinda disappointed with the amount of serving. The Gising-Gising among others is the one that caught my tastebuds! The presentation was kinda dry but the taste was something that will make you crave for more. The serving was generous too. It was spicy but had the right amount of spiciness. Plus the Filipino taste really kicked in the dish. Not too "ma-gata" but definitely delicious.

Recipes is a good recommendation for Filipino Food Fans like me out there.

General's chicken and gising gising are their best-sellers and these are found in the photo. Weird, but i had this hankering for fish today and got the fish escabeche with garlic rice. Twas pretty good.

Recipes gives me the feeling of high-end canteen food, this is why I hesitate dining here. It came to a point where the place smelled of oil, i'm glad it didn't feel that way today.

Ordered bagoong rice, general's chicken, and sinigang na baboy. Bagoong rice was the best that you can actually eat without any viand at all. You can also request the level of spicyness of your general chicken. Ours was just mild at it was perfect. Good value for money, quick service. This is home. 128156

Chichi T and I initially planned a "light lunch" but I don't know how we ended up pigging out here. 128557

I never liked any viand with coconut milk but their Gising Gising is probably an exception. This creamy, spicy vegetable dish will surely wake up you appetite (hence its name 128540). Best paired with General's Chicken, another bestselling dish. Deep fried, breaded chicken and eggplant coated with sweet-spicy sauce. More rice please! 128514 Been here countless times and those two dishes are my staple orders, plus their Crispy Tilapia.

Service was super slow. More than 30 minutes of waiting before they served the food. 128533

The word is so-so. Not something I would call great but not so terrible as to merit a bad review. The place has a minimalist feel, walls, furniture, and decors are mostly in white. The menu is predominantly Filipino, prices range from 150 to 300 pesos.

It was my first time to try Thai Spring Rolls (PHP130), which is basically lumpiang pansit. I didn't know what to make of it so I had a hard time appreciating it.

The Lechon Kawali in Kangkong (PHP215) is overpriced for so small a serving, but flavor-wise it's delicious. Also the kangkong is fresh and tasty.

The Mixed Seafood (PHP250) is another overpriced offering with so little to give. It was ok, but the serving is too small for its price.

I don't mind paying more if it's worth it. In this case though, I don't believe Recipes is worth the tag price.

Tasty, inexpensive, and comforting. If you're craving for home cooked meals then you should try this restaurant. We ordered the Thai Spring rolls (lumpiang shanghai with glass noodles). Lechon Kawali, General's Chicken, and Laing. Vegetables were added to complement the meat. Food wasn't greasy and salty as well. Servings sizes are good for 2 persons. 128077

Tried all their best-seller:

General's Chicken
Sweet and salty deep fried chicken with eggplant. Not a fan of sweet viand but I do love chicken and eggplant.

Lechon Kawali with Kangkong
Lechon kawali was soooo crispy perfectly paired with the rice.

Spicy Squid
Since Crispy Tilapia was not available, we tried this instead, breaded squid with sweet n' spicy flavor.

Bagoong Rice
Best among the rest!!!! I could eat this everyday. Super duper gooood. Best paired with fried food. 5 stars for the rice itself (must try)

A first timer in this resto. We opted to have this place for a weekend family dinner. I already read reviews beforehand so we didn't had much time in choosing what we want. We ordered a lot since most of the servings are only for 2 persons (downside for big groups). I'll just provide review for those I tried that night.

First off, Bagoong rice and seafood rice - I loved it both! The seafood rice the most! I love that it doesn't taste that fishy which can be very off at times, i can really taste the seafood take in it. Bagoong rice is another winner since it has the right balance of te bagoong and other stuff in it like tomatoes and mango i think? Rating: 4/5

General's chicken- winner of the night! I've been reading a lot of good reviews about this one so I decided to try it out. It's sweet, salty and has the right consistency in it. Chicken was tender and I love that it is paired with eggplant. Rating:5/5

Sinigang na baboy- this one was a little bit off for me. It was bland and lack that extra sour taste that I am looking for any kind of sinigang. I expected a lot since it is a well established resto. Hope they will improve on this one. Rating: 2/5

Pancit canton: another sad take on the pancit canton. Again, it was tasteless. Bland take on filipino favorite, i can only taste the vegetable in it. No hint of salt or pepper in it. Why o why? Rating: 2/5

Lechon kawali: I like this one since it is prepared with its dip/sauce in it. It has the right crisp that I am looking for this kind of dish. Rating:4/5

Bangus belly: just another bangus belly. I love that it has mangoes on top. Rating: 3/5

Service: it was good except that they forgot to serve one order that we had. We have to follow it up for several times.

Place: place was just enough to accommodate families. It's good that they have seats outdoors.

Overall rating: 3/5

Will i try this again? Yes, not for a family dinner or lunch.

Bbq Chicken with Vegetable Sidings Meal

One of the meals offered in Recipes goes with a steamed rice and a glass of Iced Tea. But since I like their garlic rice, I added an additional of P10 to have the steamed rice converted to garlic rice.

Price: P185 +service charge

The Bbq Chicken as seen in the photo is deboned already and is not on a stick which for me is great because it really gives you the convenience of eating it right away.

I like the taste of it. Pretty simple and straightforward. The usual taste of a barbecue chicken. However, the vegetables sidings is just so tasty and I can't help but eat all of it right away. I like how "garlicky" it tastes.

Bangus Steak Meal.

It comes with rice and a glass of iced tea.

We then order an extra garlic rice.

This dish has been a personal favorite of mine. Well seasoned and if you love eating onions you will enjoy it more.

However, it was a let down this time because my companion who is very particular with fish bone's, unfortunately got some on his Bangus. 128532
