Lunch today with my husband at Red Hana because we had a meeting at QC City Hall and boy, Matalino St was jampacked. We ordered their Sashimi Special Mix, California Maki, Miso Soup and a Gyudon. There was nothing special in what we ate tbh but it's not so bad too. 127843127858127845

red hana is the only Japanese restaurant at Matalino st. Despite the restaurants small seating capacity people flock-in because of the good quality of the food. Their katsudon and tonkatsu is a must-try!

This is the real deal!
CHEAP BUT GOOD JAPANESE RESTO.

Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant that is a must try if you happen to be around the area and with only a few bucks to spare.

This cozy Japanese restaurant is a no-frills eat-and-go kind of place but their food quality is great! Super affordable price points too. Shrimp tempura for P160 and gyudon for P120. You can't go wrong!

Personal favorite: Oyakudon and Kani Salad! Reasonable price and the serving is even good for two.

During my short and sweet stay in NKTI I was able to catch a glimpse of the Matalino strip which I only knew then for Starbucks (allegedly the Starbucks branch with patrons who get 100% passing rate for physician licensure exams.) and of course the Sulo Hotel nearby. Red Hana was introduced by a colleague as one of their jap go-to places while in the area. The place is a small spot but their dishes were really good. I had their gyudon and I am very pleased. Will try their ramen next time! Good food for good value.

Back for the 3rd time, brought my peeps with me. This time, we tried the rice toppings and their Beef Ramen. The rice toppings were totally generous with the meat on their Donburi, but a bit lacking on their seafood (totally forgot the name of the rice bowl dish. Sorry). Their ramen is nonconventional. There was no Shiitake mushrooms that I liked and lacks that authentic Japanese beef ramen taste. Overall, its good. The maki on the other hand was nice, to think that we were four and we shared on 1 plate of mixed maki. ;))

Small japjap resto in matalino st. Not much parking space for customers but you can park on the bank beside it during non bank hours.

Price is affordable specially for students.
Tuna sashimi 3.5/5
Salmon sashimi 4/5
Beef don buri 2.5/5 coz the beef was chewy.

Overall experience is good! Will come back for the crunchy maki.

Salmon was fresh -- uni and tuna, not so much.

The wasabi paste was a little off.

Sukiyaki bowl can serve 3.

I wish I ordered a rice bowl instead.

My parents were in town for a medical checkup so I went to meet them. I know my dad loves japanese food and my mom is slowly appreciating it so I looked for a jap place around the area with good reviews. I chanced upon Red Hana.

The place is beside a bank and another store so the parking spaces were shared, good thing though that it was at night so the bank was closed. The place is just small and the interior was designed minimally, a few small tables al fresco and some long wooden tables inside. A bit small and it had a somewhat hole-in-the-wall feel.

They have a (surprisingly) slightly extensive menu BUT most of the orders I had were not available. We had 2 generous orders of Salmon Sashimi, mixed sushi (in photo), kani and corn soup, age dashi tofu, and 2 orders of crunchy california maki. I loved the crunchy calif maki, it wasn't too rice-y and the ingredients were balanced well. The salmon sashimi wasn't the best I had but it was pretty good and quite a large serving for its price. The age dashi I didn't like much but I think it's better than Sumo Sam's. The mixed sushi had pretty generous sushi selection in there, it had unagi, and tuna, and salmon and mackerel i think. For the price they have, it was a sweet deal.

Food-wise, it was more than okay but didn't reach the excellent level. What turned me off was the service. The waitstaff made more than 3 mistakes in our orders and also made us wait for more than the usual waiting time for food to be served.

Bill was just a lil over 2K for everything. I guess that's why it's very popular in the area. 128077
