What can I say I REALLY LOVE THIS PLACE in Rockwell! AND can I say Refinery is where I first discovered the greatness of this coffee!
It might be hard to find at first though, since it is located outside the mall and is very small, but you'll find it if you go past pancake house, emphasis salon, ramble and wood fire and keep walking down the road. There are usually a couple people hanging around by it, and for good reason!

While their menu is small, their service is always on point!

You can't go wrong with their Salmon Risotto or their valrhona mocha , rich in Valrhona chocolate!

Everyone should make the effort to find this tiny restaurant and have an amazing cup of coffee while exploring Rockwell! :)

While we were on our way home, dad suddenly told us that there was no food at home. My sister and I decided to eat somewhere we both haven't tried and that's how we landed here at Refinery.

The place looks like somewhere people come to chill and catch up on a Friday night. It had a candlelight dinner ambiance. The place specializes on sandwiches and light meals and coffee. When we saw the menu, we knew we went to the wrong place to have dinner 128514 But we were too embarrassed to walk out of the restaurant because we were already seated.

I wanted something light while my sister was a bit hungry. So we ordered one main dish and one dessert, both for sharing.

SALMON RISOTTO [P480] - seared Norwegian salmon on creamy wild mushroom risotto, toped with cajun butter. The dish was served with a small slice of cajun butter on top of the salmon. We weren't sure what to do with it so we just mixed it altogether. 128517 I looooooved this! We both loved it. 128149 The salmon was perfectly cooked - nice and tender on the inside and super crispy skin on top. The risotto itself was super creamy and buttery. It was wonderfully seasoned as well. One thing was for sure - It was wrong for us to share this. We should have ordered one each 128514128055 It was pricey tho 128557128184
Rating: 5/5

FEEL GOOD FUDGE [P285] - Freshly-baked brownies on skillet topped with Madagascar vanilla ice cream and candied walnuts. This skillet brownie takes 30 minutes to bake so make sure to order this ahead of time. The brownie was like a molten lava cake in a skillet. The outside was crispy but the inside was very gooey and soft, 128525 just like a molten lava cake. Talk about chocolate heaven! The brownie itself was not too sweet which we liked. The classic combination of hot chocolate brownie and plain vanilla ice cream will never go out of style. It was just perfect. I would recommend to order another scoop of vanilla ice cream because one scoop would not suffice. Also, when you order this, make sure to have at least 3 people because it's so big for just 2 people to consume. We took home half of the brownie because we ran out of ice cream (and were too full) 128529
Rating: 4/5

The ambiance of the place was great while service was average. I didn't like how their service water tasted - It tasted like tap water. The overall experience was good so I think I will be back to try their sandwiches 127838 and coffee 9749️ next time.

Friday means coding day for me and for some reason, my dad assumed me and Bernisse C (welcome my taller-than-me little sister to |ooloo!!) won't be eating at home. We were already out of the parking when we found out so we chose between Rockwell and Century City Mall.

I wanted to visit a place where we both haven't dined at so Refinery it is!

Refinery isn't located within the Power Plant Mall but it is walkable. 128077🏼 A bit of pre-meal exercise won't hurt. 128514

I was a bit hungry but my sister didn't want something heavy so we decided to just share.

SALMON RISOTTO (Php 480)
The salmon was cooked wonderfully! The skin was crispy and it tasted so fresh. The risotto was so buttery and creamy!! 128525 When served, there's a cajun butter compound on top of the salmon. We just mixed it into the risotto and it melted immediately! 10084️ One problem I have with this dish is the portion... It seems a bit small for the price. 128549

FEEL-GOOD FUDGE (Php 285)
This skillet brownie takes 30-minutes waiting time so make sure to order it together with the main course. The brownie was crispy on the outside (and those by the side of the skillet) and VERY GOOEY in the middle!!! 128561128525128561128525 We were in brownie/chocolate heaven!! It worked so well with the vanilla ice cream but since the brownie is piping hot, the ice cream melted so fast!! 128557 One big scoop of ice cream isn't enough. It has to be a HUMONGOUS SCOOP!! 127846 We weren't able to finish the whole skillet with just the two of us so we took it home instead. Hahaha! 128514

Checking out Refinery for a quick midnight snack nightcap before heading home, tucked within the prime residences of Rockwell 128522

Loved the Bacon Popcorn with the chunky bacon bits and parmesan, such a tasty and addicting combination 128522128077🏻10084

Quick fix with the Chili Cheese Skillet Wedges... Hot hot hot potato wedges with jalapeno, ohhsocheesy mozzarella and Refinery's no-bean chili sauce 128522128077🏻10084️ yummeh 100841008410084

Ohhhh just hits the spot :) Cooling down with the Crimson Berry which was caffeine free, and a fragrant aroma of cherries and berries 128522128077🏻10084️ forgot the diff berry components of my drink hehehe128518127864 All I remembered, that it was.....thirst quenching 12852210084128077🏻 ahhhh 12852210084128077🏻

It's true what they say about this place. The grilled cheese and tomato soup are yummerz! Also their chorizo croquettes. Good selection of craft beer and single malt! Had a Boracay Blonde alongside my food and it paired off quite nice with the croquettes.

I'd been wanting to visit Refinery for a long time and I finally got the chance to.
The food was alright - didn't blow me away, didn't disappoint.

The low rating is for the service or the lack of it.
They seemed rather unprofessional. Inattentive, busy snickering at each other, or looking like they just don't give a shit about their jobs.
I had to call their attention each time even though some of them weren't occupied. What really irked me is the fact that I wasn't handed my change back. My bill was 571 pesos including a service charge of around 40 something and I gave 600. I had to call the attention of the waitress who totally ignored the check holder as she passed by. I then waited for a long time for my change. From what I was able to observe, either no one prepared my change or that they purposefully ignored the holder that was intended to be returned to me, perhaps assuming that small amount of change is theirs to keep. Crap yeah it was just twenty pesos, but the thing is there was already a service charge. It reminds me of the time I was at Johnny Rockets Universal Studios in California where the female server was friendly all throughout until she got the payment to which I was owed about 2$ worth of change and never came back.
The thing with the servers here is they all have these looks on their faces like they do not give a shit and it was evident in the way that I was improperly serviced. Total opposite of the servers they have at Single Origin. Have some fucking initiative you entitled pieces of shit. No customer should ever HAVE TO ASK for his change.

Food, place, coffee--okay. We had the bread pudding and syphon with sumatra mandheling. I guess I need to try out the other items and see if it raises the rating.

This dessert is called Feel-Good Fudge, sadly it did not live up to its name.

It takes 30 minutes to be served. It's made of freshly made brownies on a skillet and topped with Madagascar Ice cream and candied walnuts.

The brownie was burnt and bitter which ruined the whole dish. Unfortunately, the ice cream and walnuts couldn't save the taste.

SUMMARY: Refinery gave me food poisoning.

Ate here with the girlfriend on Good Friday (we did this last Good Friday too). Ordered the Angry Pasta, Honey Basil Grilled Cheese, and the Creme Brulee. I ate most of it since she wasn't really hungry.

The Angry Pasta tasted just like it did the last time I had it, sweet and spicy BUT the sausage tasted like plastic. I'm not kidding. I've made homemade sausage before and this tasted incredibly weird. Left most of it behind.

The grilled cheese was really bland save for the buttery bread and honey. The soup tasted old and was just plain watered down. We took out the other half and planned to just give it away.

The Creme Brulee drink was okay but the topping was hardly "brûléed", name and concept is just a gimmick.

We get home and our tummies weren't feeling too good. GROSS ALERT-- About an hour later, I started vomiting. It was red-tinged and tasted of the tomato soup. Everything came out (angry pasta sausage included). This happened for about 2 hours. I thought I was okay after the last bout but no, whatever was inside me was making me puke more but because there was nothing left, I was puking bile (yellow with a super bitter aftertaste). I couldn't sleep. Every half hour or so between 2AM-8AM I had to commit. Visited my Tito who's a doctor the next day and was prescribed medicine, he suggested for me to contact Refinery since based on evidence, their food gave me food poisoning. Didn't bother since they probably wouldn't do anything about it. Today (2 days later) is the only day I recovered, I couldn't even manage to go to work yesterday. Basically, I will never eat here again. Imagine, the food wasn't even good and I even got sick because of it. Shame on them.

FEEL. GOOD. FUDGE 128525 seriously, look at that perfect sexy little thing. Its served warm with the ice cream melting-- I swear its so good. 128557 Goes well with coffee! Chemex and Siphon extracts about 20oz of coffee which is enough for sharing 128077

Perfect night cap, but not for the quiet conversations type because it becomes a laid back pub late in the night.

Wow! I ate here after a hangover, and I must say, from what I ordered & to what my 2 friends ordered, cured my hangover. Lol. Anyway, I'm so glad more "brunch" places are popping up in the Metro. My boyfriends salmon egg benedict (not pictured) was light and delightful. Also enjoyed their pot of English breakfast tea mixed with milk & a bit of sugar128077🏼

If breakfast were always like this, I'd be jumping out of bed every day! (I'd also be fat, but whatever 128061)

Woke up earlier than usual on a Sunday to catch breakfast at Refinery. It's been a long time since I've had a great meal in the morning (it's always just egg or cereals these days) so I thought might as well go all out this time. So I ordered the Big Breakfast and it didn't disappoint. 1278591278389749127860

There was a lot going on in my plate but my favorites were the bacon (thickly cut, juicy, and crispy) and the pork and beans (a far cry from the canned beans i hated so much growing up). Had me feeling full for the rest of the day! 128076

When it comes to breakfast, for me nothing is more satisfying than bigger breakfast at refinery.
Packed with sausage patty, smoked bacon, baked beans, scrambled egg, toast and salad. Everything that you need to jump start the day.
Bacon was just right, eggs were seasoned well and so was the sausage all is well but not the baked beans, I didn't enjoy munching on those it tasted somehow off to me.
I'm not a fan of salads but their salad is different, I myself was surprised that I totally enjoyed it. Fresh and full of flavour. I would rate it 4 for enjoyment and/or taste.
The place is perfect for a morning conversation or for some time chillin out. The outside setting is great, tho it's a bit hot, it would be great if there were a lot of trees.
Overall I enjoyed the food and the place. Pricey but worth it. It could have been great if there were trees to cover up and to give shade. 128513

I didn't get to take a photo of their grilled cheese sandwich, which I loved! Perfectly crunchy brioche, yummy cheese and I loved the tomato soup, found it better than Borough's. Granted it's not your super amazeballs grilled cheese (with different kinds of cheeses) but I wasn't in the mood for something heavy so it was perfect for me.128076🏻128076🏻

Good food. Bad service. Forgot to punch in our order not once, but twice! Overheard a couple of customers with the same issue. Taking over an hour to get their orders.

I just love it when I get to try more than one restaurant in one day. It gives me a lot of happy vibes. So, when my favorite Dragon Lady agreed to try Refinery after Rambla, my grin reached both ears.

Hello, Refinery.

For some reason, I thought that this place is a bar or something. I never thought that this place serves good coffee and dessert.

Since we were quite full, we were more focused on just ordering dessert and coffee. We went with Black Onyx (PHP195, syphon extraction) and a pan of Baked S’mores (seasonal and for limited time only).

What I loved about Refinery is that we still get the remaining coffee from the syphon. Some coffee shops (e.g. Dolce Latte) only fill the cup and return the remaining coffee back to the kitchen.

Soon, our coffee and s’mores were served.

T likes her coffee black and an auntie once told me that it’s best to enjoy coffee as is—with no sugar or cream. That way, you get to taste and appreciate the beans.

And true enough, Black Onyx was pretty mild. Described as dark roast to highlight deeper caramelized sugars with notes of dark chocolate without the bitter, it wasn’t bitter at all. In fact, it was slightly sweet even without sugar.

The Baked S’mores on the other hand, was delightful. The serving size was good for a group of 3-5. T and I had a hard time finishing it.

I loved that it was served hot (careful with the pan) and the nice contrast of the soft and chewy marshmallow and the crunchy and cinnamon-y graham. T even found bits of Reese inside! Heavenly!

I can’t wait to visit this place again soon! I have to try its Smoked Salmon Grilled Cheese sandwich (PHP450) and Cold Cuts and Cheese Platter (PHP520).
