RESTAURANT 101 at Enderun Colleges – Your Food Network Food Dreams Unexpectedly Within Reach

When people hear about Enderun Colleges, the premier college in McKinley Hill known for turning out quality culinary graduates, they immediately think that it is an expensive place, and that its flagship restaurant, Restaurant 101, is an expensive place to dine.

It’s actually not that expensive, and is a good place to go for special date, or some foodie “me” time, or for those times when you feel like you deserve a better lunch/dinner than the same-old-same-old place you buy from.

Restaurant 101 has a LUNCH prix fixe 3-course meal for Php450, and a DINNER 3-course set menu for Php550. The adjacent Bistro 101 offers bistro meals for only P180 that include a salad, a meat course and one round of iced tea.

Restaurant 101 changes their a la carte menu every three months, and their tasting menu every two months. There is a 5% gratuity on top of the prices.

Last week, I tried their new A Breakfast Affair, a one-week menu showcasing breakfast items re-invented as dinner. They often offer this type of special tasting menus to showcase new dishes, new ingredients, or to try something new.

A BREAKFAST AFFAIR

The menu consists of 5 courses, and includes a cocktail and coffee or tea. It was P1,380/person +5% gratuity.

Mimosa

We started with cocktails, and I chose to get a Mimosa (orange and champagne).

We were also served some really good bread while waiting – with a crisp crust and chewy inside.

Blinis

This blini dish is a wonderful start to the meal. The sweet, savory, earthy, bite-sized pancakes are surrounded with maple foam and a wasabi sauce. The smoked salmon is perfectly salty. There’s sweet, savory, hot, salty and creamy in one plate.

Tomato Soup

The Tomato Soup is very comforting. It is creamy and cheesy, with just enough acidity from the tomatoes to cut the creaminess. I could drink a big, big bowl of this every day! The toasted bread with melted mozzarella turns into a puffy, cheesy sponge that soaks up the yummy soup! I felt like a cat eating this, if cats liked tomatoes and cheese in their cream! This is my favorite out of the 5 dishes, although it was really hard to pick which one I liked best, because everything was delicious!

Uni Scrambled Egg Toast (2 pcs)

A bite-sized symphony! This is the most unforgettable dish out of the 5 courses, taste-wise. There’s creamy, moist, and fluffy scrambled eggs, a crispy bread chip as the base (also adds crunch and a contrasting texture), topped with some pickled onions that wake the palate, and cubes of delectable, fatty unagi (eel) and drizzled with sweet and salty unagi sauce.

Marinated Hanger Steak with 63-degree Eggs

The hanger steak was well-seasoned, flavorful down to the center. It was also tender and juicy. It was served with a hollandaise espuma (foam), and pickle relish (which tasted like a coleslaw) that was a good foil to the rich eggs.

Take a look at that egg yolk! The golden, molten goodness had me itching to scoop it up with the accompanying crispy bread chips (croutons). The egg white was soft, gelatinous and just beginning to set. I love sous vide eggs, and 63-degrees is the perfect one for me!

Brioche French Toast Millefeuille

This was our dessert. It looks pretty! However, it wasn’t my favorite dish. It is a stack of brioche french toast, filled with a honey cream, and decorated with strawberry glaze and dots of passionfruit mousse. I found the brioche with cream a bit bland. I loved the sweet and tart passionfruit mousse, and wished there had been more on the plate to provide more flavor and contrast for the brioche millefeuille.

Restaurant 101 is a part of Enderun Colleges, so it comes as no surprise that students from Enderun Colleges staff the restaurant. It provides training and work experience for Enderun Colleges’ students.

SUMMARY

Check out their good-value-for-money set meals. You might even spend less than you would if you went to one of the mid-range chain restaurants, but get better ambience, better food, and score more cred with someone you might be looking to impress!

As for the food, try their main menu items or check out their tasting menus. Experience the type of dishes you think you’d only see from your favorite cooking competition shows! There are different kinds of mousses and foams, sous vide eggs, and delightful flavor combinations of sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami in one plate. It’s nice and fun, especially for a relaxing date with someone who also appreciates food.

At P1,380+ per person, the A Breakfast Affair menu is a good value considering the quality ingredients used and the inventive food combinations we got to experience. Unlike buffets where the food has been prepared way in advance, the food here is prepared upon your order. It’s especially made for you! I didn’t think I’d be full, but in the end, I was full, and very satisfied.

Restaurant 101 is located on the ground floor of the main building when you enter Enderun Colleges. Parking is available for guests, just let the guard know that you will be dining at Restaurant 101. Enderun Colleges is located along Campus Drive, literally just behind Venice Piazza.

Ambiance is beautiful, food is good (we had the French onion soup, sea bass, korubota belly, potato gratin) but the service needs improvement. They forgot to serve our dessert so it had to be wrapped for take away instead. I believe the students/interns are their servers thus the lapses in service so if you're ok with some mishaps like that, then "dine in at your own risk".

The last time I ate at Restaurant 101 was 7 years ago when they were still located in Ortigas.

I fondly recall their dinner roll and how blown away I was that bread could be amazingly great (insert Anthony Bourdain's Adam Real-Last Name Unknown's bread). I'd be happy just eating that dinner roll with butter.

So when a meeting was set held at Restaurant 101 where we will have a four-course lunch featuring the latest Market Menu by Chef Julian Köberl (former Junior Sous Chef at Jöel Robuchon's fine dining restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa), I was excited and could not wait for the bread basket.

Alas, there was no bread basket. :-(

I had to settle for the scone during snacks. It was good. But I still had vivid memories of that bread roll I ate 7 years ago and I was left wanting.

On to the four-course lunch.

1st Course: Marinated Crab with Avocado, tomato salad, and trout caviar.

Verdict: the serving is huge that I'm surprised it's not considered an entree. The avocado has hints of smoked fish. While the crab was sweet and pairs well with the salty trout caviar.

2nd Course: Prawn Ravioli with Shrimp foam

Verdict: nothing spectacular. It was ok.

3rd Course: US Beef Sirloin with Crispy Foie Gras Wrap with Shiitake Potato mousseline.

Verdict: Beef was cooked medium. I like my beef medium rare. The foie gras became hard after a while so best to eat immediately.

4th Course: Bittersweet Chocolate mousse with White Chocolate Tea (earl grey) ice cream.

Verdict: I love chocolate so the mousse was a hit for me. The earl grey ice cream is too sweet for me. I tried my companion's mixed berries mille feuille with coffee cream and I wish I had coffee cream in my plate.

Overall, at Php 1,080 for the entire meal, it was good. It's a good value bec of the serving sizes and you'll be full before you reach the main course. Taste-wise, it's ok.

I still miss the bread basket.

Let me start by saying I go to Enderun. In fact, I myself have served in this restaurant in the past but I swear this is an honest review!

Had dinner with my girlfriends here last night. Enderun is BEAUTIFUL at night, the campus is just something else at night and the restaurant is so much prettier at night as well. I was very happy with the service (students train in the restaurant and are taught proper sequence of service) and even happier with the food. We each ordered the 3 course market menu. Basically you select the number of courses then which dish from the selections you would like.

I had:
Potato and truffle soup: this was good, I never really expect much from soup but I enjoyed this
Tuna with noodles (I don't remember the description/name): this was yummy and filling. Loved the sauce.
Dark chocolate mousse with white chocolate tea flavored ice cream: I was supposed to take a photo of this but as usual I was too excited and devoured it. This was awesome.

My friends had beef wrapped in foie gras, crab in avocado and other things and everyone was quite happy with their food.

Oh and a glass of house white wine. Yum.

Been a very bad looloo reviewer cause I forgot to get the names of the dishes we ate except for one, ugh.

Anyway, if you are looking for a new date or business meeting place, you can try Restaurant 101 at Enderun. My sister works here so she treated me last Friday for lunch for my last working day at McKinley Hill, hehe.

They serve unlimited white bread with butter. The bread is so smooth it looked like an egg to me but the texture is good.

The tomato soup when first poured was a bit weird cause it looks like pasta sauce without the pasta. Surprisingly, I liked it and it really went well with the bread. Not for the hyperacidic though :p

The main dish was a boneless chicken with a bit of gravy and fried rice with veggies. The chicken was reaaallllyy good, it's juicy inside but the skin is crispy and flavorful, rawr. The rice was a bit too oily for me though.

For dessert, I had slow cooked peaches with strawberry syrup topped with vanilla ice cream. Sweet, sour, chilled and warm was a burst of yummy flavor. My sister had the Chocolate Delice (or Louise as its old name i think) which tastes like really good Ferrero cake. It has gold (yes, edible gold) flecks on top, ayoko sana kainin papatibag ko na lang lol. The Chocolate Delice is only served in two places: Restaurant 101 and Monacco. Must try 128077

For a three course meal which was a prix fixe, it was only for P350, two course meal is p280 128076The Chocolate Delice I think is about p300 but good for sharing, you can't finish it on your own unless you like chocolate THAT much. Btw, I believe the prix fixe is only available for lunch 11 to 2pm.

Restaurant 101 offers a cinematic view of their kitchen which we didn't see because we were seated beside a wall. That earned minus 1/2 star including the oily rice. 4.5/5

The place still gets a 128077 recommendation though 9786

Kind of a biased review but.. WELCOME TO THE RESTAURANT LOCATED INSIDE MY SCHOOL!

I dine here when I'm not a broke ass and ditch the caf food which is really so good already at 100 php.

Resto 101 as we Enderun peeps would call it is open from 11 am to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 9 pm. The chef that graced us last year was Chef Nicholas Cantrel of Iron Chef America. I think? The chef who joined us this year is Chef Julian Koberl.

Anyway, there are ala carte meals and a Market Menu. They also serve Prix Fixe during lunch time. There is also a bar connected to the resto just outside. Bar Etoile. Students and Outsiders can order alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages here. For students, as long as you're 18 and its already 6 PM you can order any liquor you want as long as you can pay for it and you can go to class sober.

For the resto, there is a 20% discount for students. Usually the servers here are students as well being graded for their service class. The chefs that operate in their kitchen are trained Alain Ducasse Chefs and other Enderun Students who are trained under the same institute.

For todays lunch I ordered their 3 course prix fixe. I chose the Ceasar Salad over the Tomato Soup and then Grilled Chicken with Rice Pilaf and Baba au Rum for dessert.

The vinaigrette of the ceasar salad was very very delicious. Its the kind of vinaigrette that will make you dig into the salad and look for more. The Grilled Chicken was very juicy, very tender. The skin was crispy but the meat was very supple. Very tasty as well. The rice pilaf was fluffy and not super buttery which is good. The Baba au Rum kinda disappointed me cause it was too spongy but the rum didn't over power the dish so that's a good one. The cream was sweet and not so heavy and the strawberries were fresh. I only spent 294 php inclusive of vat and service charge with the student discount for that sumptuous meal.

If you're dining here do not leave the resto without trying the Louis the XV. Its a dessert created by Alain Ducasse himself and is perfected by these chefs. Very delightful. Drop by our resto and tell me so that I can join you and you can get a discount. Good deal eh?

We know that Enderun's forte is on the culinary side and yes, it definitely is. Restaurant 101 is located just inside the main building of the enderun campus.

When I entered the restaurant, I just said, " Wow" The ambiance, the lighting, the music. Everything's perfect. You can also see how the chefs make your food because their kitchen is open. The interior design, the way they set up the tables, the comfy chairs, the amazing wine racks... Every single detail was thought about thoroughly. Now, the food....

Each of us ordered 5-course meals (pigs, right?) What I liked about first was the way they plate. All the contrasting colors, they just compliment each other. The taste, mhmm.. My favorite was the crab bisque because it was succulent and creamy but not too salty. Their roasted chicken with asparagus was also very good because it was very juicy considering the fact that I ordered chicken breasts. Plus, the fish. You could taste the sweetness of the fish because it's fresh from the sea. The sauce, you just know that it came from the pan where it was cooked (yum!) Last, but definitely not the least, the dessert platter (oink) Everything was there, parfaits, mousses, cakes, fresh fruits... WOW..

We all know Enderun is not a cheap school to go to so the price of the food is a bit expensive.. but yeah!! screw the price and try this AMAZING restaurant!! All I can say is that YOU, yes YOU should try Restaurant 101!! No regrets :)

I go to school at Enderun so basically, I see this restaurant everyday. I've worked inside as part of the service crew for 5 months and I can say that it is a one of a kind restaurant. Probably one of the firsts to offer a cinematic kitchen for which the chefs will be seen in action. Food recipes are based from Alain Ducasse in France. The plates served have character because of how creative the chefs design the food. The restaurant has an extension called the Bistro 101, it is where people usually grab sandwiches, coffee, pastries and other snacks when the Resto 101 is not yet open. It is a great try however, parking might be a challenge during the day. So I suggest you call up the restaurant first to make a reservation.

Had lunch at Restaurant 101 and ordered the prix fixe (meaning fixed price) on their menu, it was a 3 course meal of tomato soup, baked chicken with mushroom sauce and blueberry strawberry cheesecake dessert and it's only php380!!! The chicken was cooked perfectly considering it was white meat, the skin was perfectly crisp, the tomato soup tasted authentic and the dessert was'nt that creamy which was actually good! The other items in their menu are actually not that expensive, good place to have an intimate dinner.

Great ambiance. Good service. The fix price menu for lunch and dinner is excellent and worth more than the actual price. Good for romantic and private dining. Service and parking excellent. One just has to know where Enderun is located and finding it is easy.
