Dropped by one afternoon to just check friends artworks displayed at the Restaurant. Well, had blueberry cheesecake and brewed coffee.

Perfect combination! 128522

Before anything else, I'd like to point out the fact that the food scene in Cagayan de Oro is booming and upgrading to a more complex fusion than the conventional classics. Damaso is an example to that fact where local food is given culinary twists. I grew up in cdo, and I'm very happy to see a lot of progress in the city's culinary scene. So let me share my experience in this restaurant.

Right after Christmas, my family went out to check this place. We leveraged on our headcount to try as many dishes as we can to maximize the visit. Here are the dishes we've tried and the unanimous review we have for each:

128204 Calamari black ink mayo 127775127775127775127775127775
The generous dash of pepper really made it distinct. It gave the dish that extra kick where regular calamari frequently miss. The squid is firm yet tender while the coating gave it that attitude with its crisp entourage. Definitely a must try! Cost: 190 php

128204 Callos 127775127775127775
Very spanish influence using local ingredients. I love the fact that the beef is fork tender, but the dish has a very strong beefy taste. It's like drinking Alaska milk without missing the cow milk aftertaste. Not a fan. Cost: 190 php

128204 Spaghetti Vongole imbao lemon 127775127775127775
Pictured above. It could have been better if they didn't use imbao. Imbao is perfect for soup but didn't work quite well with Vongole. The sauce was not as oily-light as in the normal Vongole. Cost: 185 php

128204 House fried chicken 127775127775
We ordered this for our niece who only eats fried chicken, pesto, meatballs, or shrimp. Given the limits of the menu, we went for this one. She ate the pasta instead. Chicken was too salty for her palate. Good thing the resto sells books for kids costing 500php. We bought one for her to keep her happy while we ate. She forgot about her chicken. Cost: 230 php

128204 Grilled wahoo mojo de ajo 127775127775127775127775127775
Perfecto! That generous serving of grilled Wahoo steak (tangigue) was well complemented by the buttered basmati rice and grilled squash which i love! The steak was moist and just well seasoned. Highly recommended! Cost: 250 php

128204 63'C pork chop with chimichurri sauce 127775127775127775127775127775
Another winner in the house! This moist slab of good local pork is well seasoned and tender. It has hints of basil and rosemary that goeas really well with the buttered rice and grilled veggies. 5 stars! Cost: 235 php

128204 Fuego to go ribs 127775127775127775127775
It's a bit sweeter than how I would want my ribs, but I'm not complaining. Its texture is more important which is something they were able to achieve with flying colors. Cost: 350 php

128204 artisanal ice cream 127775127775127775127775127775
We got the salted caramel and the sikwati. Very refreshing with a gourmet twist. The sikwati is my favorite because it has bitter notes that mimics a swiss 70% dark chocolate. Makes me proud that such is made locally. World class!

Overall, we are giving it a four. The family is honored to be graced by Chef Chino Mempin's bubbly stories about the resto. And if you noticed, I didn't put a price for the desserts. It was complimentary by the Chef since he knows our family quite well. Damaso is a great sign that the city is ready to embrace a more sophisticated food scene. And trend is, it's coming in waves! It's nice to be back home and seeing how much it has changed! :)

The former Mom's Corner, I don't know if it's the same owner, but I'm a fan of their interior, nothing much though just the becoming trend and cheap-neat look of the industrial concept. However, they need to work on the acoustics
It gets pretty noisy inside. The all concrete wall and bare ceiling and a bit compressed floor area makes the sound from the farthest table to another seem like just an arm length, yup! You can Hear what they're talking back there!

As for the food though. My friend and I ordered a fruit / veggie salad and a bottle of beer. Not a good combination!
So, I don't think I'll be able to provide a good review on their menu knowing our order had me coming back to the loo more than I should the next day. Ha ha!
