We were quite bitin after our dinner at Urameshi-ya so we transferred to Riozen for beer and sushi. Their draft beer is less than P80 and we also ordered their mixed sushi (special) which is around P690. What made it special? Uni!

I made a mistake and ordered a temaki thinking that it has unagi in it, turns out I misread and it was uni! Oh my, uni overload!

The mixed sushi is 3 slices of tuna, salmon and around 5 slices of squid and some fish that I don't know but it tastes like Lapu-Lapu to me. It also has wakame, seagrapes (which is surprisingly good) and of course, a huge dollop of uni. Everything's fresh and the price is pretty cheap for good quality sushi.

Service is generally good but at some point there is no waiter outside as we were located in the open air dining area. But the waitresses are attentive to your needs when they are there.

Went to Riozen to try their Hakata Ramen. It was good, i've had better, but still good enough 128512 Typical tonkotsu broth, slices of chashu, and pickled radish and spring onions to top everything off.

The ramen alone was just 3 stars for me, but if it weren't for that side dish you see in the picture, this would have stayed at 3 stars.

I thought i was up for some ramen and gyoza. Seeing the tori-something gyoza on the menu, i thought that was exactly what i'd have. What came out instead was what appeared to be gyoza filling, wrapped in deep fried chicken intenstine! Quite interesting and unique... and it was good! Instead of the usual gyoza sauce, you dip this in some sort of vinegar that counteracts the fatty umay taste just right.

This was the first time i've had anything of the sort in a japanese restaurant, and can also happily say i've experienced something unique to Riozen as well. 128522

On a night i craved good sashimi all i had to do was remember a time when a wandered into Riozen as the only non-Japanese dude sitting at the bar. At that time everyone around me was having sashimi and/or a grilled or fried order (usually yakitori, seafood, or tempura).

A few years later, nothing changed! Glad i gave in to my impulses 128522 Every visit starts you off with their free soup, which is delicious! A fishcake soup with veggies that warms you up and sets your appetite for whats to come.

Then came my order of mixed sashimi and an order of grilled squid. The mixed sashimi has and always will be a thing of beauty. Just looking at the platter made me drool. And every dip of that fresh seafood into the soy sauce + wasabi was magic. The squid, seasoned just with salt, was grilled soooo well. It was tender, juicy, flavorful, and charred just right! 128076

Thanks Riozen! First japanese meal of the new year and it was a good one!128077

Back at Little Tokyo where I had my ramen fix. This time we tried Riozen and got their bestseller, Hakata Ramen. The noodles were perfect and generously portioned. The broth was light and creamy. It was a bit salty though which made the taste similar to an instant ramen noodle soup. It was garnished with a slice of pork and 2 pieces of nori which was fine with me. I prefer it that way because too much toppings tend to overpower the taste of the broth. Big serving and reasonably priced. 128077

Some was just passing by through Riozen ..and just no place to go but they just wanna try eating..some was liked to eat there just bec of the ramen coz it's so yummy ! Yes, I tried many times ESP. Hakata ramen, karakuchi ramen which more Filipinos loved it..I also tried their tebasaki w/c means chicken wings..hmmmn..it's salty but its good..sad bec. They only had 2pcs in every order na nkkabitin..also the liver soo masarap! Fav! Q tlga..with the sauce of shio means salty but masarap! Php70@ per stick..kkabitin ulit ryt? Combination with sml php75per bot. Could definitely absurb! The good way in Japanese tradition was they serve first the oshibori means hot/cold towel before u started to order.followed with choices of Hot tea or green tea and cold tea called "mugi cha". I almost tastes foods there esp. When it comes to yaki or grilled..even Filipinos says its expensive compare from other resto..hmmmn..no comment hehehe...

I'm a bit disappointed on their Tuna maki 127843, 128541 i could hardly see and taste the tuna and it has strong wasabi. Their ramen was just so-so for me... A bit pricey compared to other japanese resto in the metro. 128127

Being Ramen addicts, we wanted something Japanese for our first meal for 2013! We went to Ukkokei but it was closed. We went to Little Tokyo and only two stores were open. We ended up choosing Riozen.

We ordered Shoyu Ramen and Shiyo Butter Ramen! The former's miso-based soup was delicious! The latter's sweet buttery soup was also yummy! At PhP280 per bowl, it is a little but more expensive than other ramen houses we've tried though. Plus other ramens we've had have more meat and veggies.

We also tried their spicy tuna maki but we were not able to finish the 6-pc set. The wasabi flavor was too strong for our liking!

Plus 128077: serves cold towel before meal and yummy cold tea for free
Minus 128078: their maki only has tiny bits and pieces of tuna
