I haven't dined here in years, and I'm happy to see there are some new-ish items on the menu.

Because we were having a late dinner, my friend and I just shared our orders:

127838 Agedashi Tofu - we both loved this one, though it is rather pricey for 4 cubes of solk todu. The seasoning was just right and the amount of sauce just. enough.

127858 Claypot Cutlet - It's actually just the pork katsu in eggy sauce - rice is served on the side. Just enough for two girls. The taste was just right.

127865 Hot Calamansi Juice - they accommodated our request for hot drinks 128513

I never really figured out whether I was Team Saboten or the other; many years ago I would have gone with the other, but now I'm not so sure. One thing Saboten had going on their side is that they kept later hours, and you can still walk in maybe before 11pm.

I roamed around Glorietta 5 to look for a nice yet inexpensive restaurant, but couldn't find anything decent. I was about to give up and go elsewhere when I stumbled upon Saboten. It has been a go-to Tonkatsu restaurant since it opened. The food is usually great and well-priced considering what you get.

Must try is their Mixed Katsu set, Tenderloin and Loin Sets. The set comes with refillable rice, miso soup and cabbage. The Katsu perfectly cooked because it was crispy on the outside and juicy from the inside, it was seasoned well, the plating was great, the texture was perfection.

As you approach the end of your meal, then comes dessert, a scoop of delicious Green Tea ice cream, very thick and creamy ice cream. Just perfect.

I really like the ambiance of the place and how friendly the staff is. Service was fast, the servers were attentive and made sure that the experience was great.

All in all, I would love to come back and dine again at this place. Saboten is a great Japanese restaurant and for foodies out there be sure to drop by.

I visit Saboten at least once a month so I figured it's about time I reviewed it again since on my first one, I mentioned this doesn't top Yabu. Apparently, over my last couple of visits I realized I like Saboten better than Yabu now. To justify that I just noticed the sides are better. Their cabbage tastes a bit more fresh, their miso soup tastes better, and even the citrus sauce (their version of Shoyu) is much more flavorful. Also, I am in love with the Chicken Cutlet Set! 128525 It's my default order and I will never ever get tired of eating it.

I also love their service. My boyfriend and I's favorite server is Angel. Sobrang fresh ng aura and his brows are always on fleek!

Saboten is by far my most favorite katsu place among those I've tried. Its tenderloin has the right softness and tenderness to it. I ordered Grated Radish Katsu Tenderloin set for P440 and I was very happy about everything it has to offer. I guess what really made this great and without the 'umay' factor is the slice of pomegranate that is squeezed all over/on top of the dish. Ahh...just remembering/ describing its taste makes me want to go back there and eat. 128513128557128523

Dined at Saboten for lunch last month with my cousins. One of them was really pushing for this restaurant and since I was also feeling it, I complied.

The place is bright and clean, the servers are really friendly and one of them even remembered us from the night before during our failed attempt to dine in right as they stopped taking in new customers for the evening 128546 haha.

I got their Mixed Set (395 pesos) which comes with shrimp, tenderloin cutlet and a crab cream croquette. Everyone else got the Chicken Cutlet Set (350 pesos). I liked what I ordered, as usual. Breading was not oily, crisp and on point! Seafood and meat served was fresh and tasted good. The crab cream croquette was yummy as well, but got too cloying too fast. I had to have my brother finish half of it. The orders were served with miso soup, rice and unlimited shredded cabbage! Yum!

For dessert, we ordered their chocolate parfait. It was kind of forgettable, so you can skip this and maybe have dessert somewhere else. Best to stick to their katsu sets.

However, we still had a pleasant and satisfying dining experience at this branch.

I meant it when I said my panko craze was switched ON. A few weeks after trying Maisen's Kurobuta maybe early November, I grabbed the opportunity to try Saboten's when I was in Makati area. My sister was not free to object so she had no choice. 128514128514

Simple, modern, and authentic Japanese feels all over, the moment we entered the restaurant. High glass walls/windows facing the road the the other side of Glorietta. Such a nice view and ambiance for our early dinner. As what I've said the wooden tables and dividers all made me feel I'm somewhere in Japan, dining in one of their classy restaurants.

Service was superb. All the waiters and waitresses were very prompt and accommodating, not to mention friendly. Di sila napapagod ngumiti. 128077🏻 I think I saw them using modern gadgets as well.. some small electronics to communicate stuff to each other. Good work! Our food was served just in time and they complied when I asked them to serve all our orders at the same time. 128077🏻

CHICKEN KARAAGE 311088️ for freeee
It was just okay for me. In terms of serving size, it was hefty. However, the taste and texture of the meat were such downers. 128531 dry and tough to chew. I compared it to one of my favorite karaages from Nagi and Nihon. Thanks to | looloo for this special by the way!

SPECIAL SHARING SET 4-4.511088️ 1050php
Perfect since it's good for two people to share. Includes two deep fried shrimp or tempura, a loin cutlet, two crab cream croquettes, and two rolled cutlets you can choose either asparagus, cheese, or plum (we chose the first two). What I first noticed when I started digging in was the panko was so gooood! Bigger looking panko than Maisen's but very soft and fine on my every bite. I like Saboten's panko better. It's official. 128514 server's mentioned they make their own pankos everyday. tempura was a big piece and I liked how it was done. crab croquette was really good during the first two bites but became really cloying after. Nakakaumay. Super creamy + crab taste kasi.. 128561 loin cutlet was good snd enough just for two people. This set was enough to keep us full plus the refillable cabbages.

Would I come back? Of course!

Want a perfect katsu? This is definitely IT! With unlimited Japanese rice, cabbages and yummy miso soup.

Katsu was not oily even the bread crumbs!

Value for money. Kids had a blast with their kiddie meals. 128077

Our favorite katsu place. After shopping, we went here for dinner. We ordered our usual set and added this chicken cutlets- tender and flavorful. We didn't like their mango shake.

This is my favorite place to eat! The food is delicious compared to yabu and a little bit more pricy. The service is amazing and my favorite part is its location, it's in the middle of everything!

Among Yabu, Terrazawa and this - I'd say Saboten has the best tonkatsu so far. A little bit more pricey but the juicy tonkatsu makes it worth it 128074🏼128076🏼

900th review! YAY! 127881

Lunch bonding with Chichi T a few weeks ago. She dragged me to Saboten and I wasn't able to say no. They still serve the best katsu in Manila, IMO. 128518

Took us a while to decide what to order. We ended up splitting an order of Specialty Course "Tsuki" and large Hire katsu. We later on realized we basically tried almost every kind of katsu they offer. #takaw

Specialty Course "Tsuki" - the set was served with unlimited rice, 2 appetizers (we picked chicken salad and chicken with onion radish seasoning), miso soup, unlimited cabbage, main dish, and a dessert. For the mains, we had a deep fried shrimp, a crab cream croquette, and your choice of rolled cutlet (cheese wins over plum and asparagus of course). The rolled cutlet was my favorite! Their version of cordon bleu but using pork instead, and it was oozing with cheese. 128525 I didn't like the crab cream croquette because of the umay factor.

Hire Katsu - pork was deep fried yet was able to retain its juiciness. The breading was thin and very crunchy. 10084

Capped of our meal with a rich and creamy green tea ice cream. 128523

Can't believe we finished everything. #foodcoma 128514

It's my second time to eat in Saboten (first was in the Serendra branch) and I must say, the experience has improved this time around.

First, love the venue and ambiance. Very light, bright and "maaliwalas." There also weren't much people when we dined here so my friend and I had a spot beside the window, with an ok view.

The food options are more expensive compared to Yabu or Ginza Bairin, but it was worth it. Ordered the Grated Radish Chicken Set, which is an option I haven't seen in other competitor restos. Loved the lean and soft chicken meat, the unique presentation and slightly DIY concept--viand is served with the grated daikon radish and some chopped green onion on top. There's a slice of lemon and grapefruit that I had to squeeze on the chicken. Then last but not the least, I get to pour the tempura sauce on top of the whole thing. Super cool. 128526

This set has the usual unli rice, cabbage and miso soup, which left me super full and satisfied 128513

Service is just fine. I like the person who got our order better than the person who cleared our table. She was more corteous and was all smiles vs the other, who cleared our table without even asking if my companion and I were already finished eating. We haven't gotten the bill at this point yet, mind you.

Nevertheless, overall, a great experience. Will go back here, especially if it's after salary timing, given the more expensive (but worth it) food options 128077🏻

Their service is impeccable! But in terms of food quality, Yabu still wins my heart. 10084️ They come in second among all Katsu places I've tried though. I really liked their Chicken Katsu.

Awesome customer service! But this is the saltiest Katsudon I've ever tasted. Don't know if it is because of the clay pot or something. I liked how food are presented and the free chicken karage. 9786

We were originally going to eat at Yabu, but the line was too long so we ate here instead (there was also a line but not as long 128541). The staff was accommodating and were kind enough to help me claim my first looloo special! One free appetizer for a minimum purchase of P1,500.00. I got their chicken salad, which should've been named cucumber salad because of the lack of actual chicken. 128514 It tasted weirdly fishy and I wanted to throw up after eating it. Thank God for their katsu sets! Ordered the special sharing set and mille feuille sharing set. According to the server, the difference between them was that the former was made with crab meat and the latter was made with pork. We also ordered the original katsu set. Everything was good, especially the original katsu. The breading was perfect, the meat was tender. The mille feuille pork had some dry parts, and the tempura lacked flavor, but other than that, I have no complaints. 128513
