My family loves this place!! Their agi dashi is a must try. Their katsu and tempura is not just breading.

Heavy EDSA traffic calls for a Makati stopover. We were walking around Glorietta not having any idea on where to dine. It is also coincidental that we never tried the famed pork cutlet of Saboten and what a great week-ender it was to finally get a taste of it.

It was 9:00pm on a Friday and we are 3rd in line. We are seated in around 15minutes. The side dishes is an appetizing treat to start the meal. Get a bowl of shredded cabbage, radish, and pickles with complimentary sesame oil.

Ordered the large Tenderloin Set at P450 that apparently serves two. Also got a flavourful plate of Katsu Curry Loin Set priced at P410. On the side, added up an ala Carte Rolled Cutlet filled with Cheese. Tenderized meat in crisp outside. Meal set is also served with Miso Soup.

The refreshing Strawberry Yakult for P175 is just as good. Service is efficient and the only thing I disapprove of is the fact it made me eat more rice. 🤣

Had a random dinner with Angela Marie C last night after work and we both cant decide what to eat until I told her I want some Jap and spicy food. We ended up here!

And since there’s curry, I just cant say no! I ordered for Curry Chicken set (P385) comes with miso soup. It’s good! I liked it! I like that the chicken was tender and the curry sauce was also good. I always love curry, would love it to be spicier tho since I am used to eating Curry in Coco Ichibanya with the highest spicy level 🤤128293

I also like that they serve unli cabbage!!! Pangpa-happy! Hahaha! So we had a lot of that too. 🤣

I had Mango Margarita (P175) which is best paired with Curry! Lol. I just made an excuse, i really want to have margarita even before the food was served cos I was exhausted at work. 128524

Service was good too! 128077🏻

I've been meaning to try out Saboten for quite a while now but since all of their branches are located far away from me, it's only recently (and by chance lol) that I got to try it.

I ordered their clay pot tenderloin set which was really delicious. The meat was very tender and I like the panko that they used as it just has the right amount of crunch to it. The egg was very fluffy and the sauce that was drizzled on the dish was really good too.

They also handed out free cabbage but didn't even touch the first round haha as I'm not really fond of veggies. Rice and miso soup was refillable. Their miso soup's good, I asked for seconds haha.

For dessert, I had their matcha and vanilla ice cream. The matcha wasn't really that bitter but definitely had a matcha-y quality to it. Vanilla was so-so, though maybe a bit too sweet - so yes, I guess it makes a perfect pair with the matcha as it balances out the sweetness.

The place is quite big, and seating isn't cramped. Service was quick and efficient as well. Free wifi and they have their own toilet which was clean. Also, if you're going to grab a Grab, outside this branch of Saboten, there's a Grab booth.

Will there be a next time? For sure, I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Saboten. 128513

Yummmmerss

PLACE:

Nice.

FOOD:

Clay Pot Loin Set : This is sooo good. I super love this dish. Meat is tender and melts in your mouth. Egg is fluffy and tasty. They also have a certain sauce that goes well with everything. Their soup is undeniably good as well. Haven't taste the cabbage since I don't like cabbage but as per my friend, it was good.

SERVICE:

Super friendly and accommodating staff.

PRICE:

Quite pricey but I think it's somehow reasonable.

VERDICT:

Did I enjoy it? - Yes
Will I recommend it? - Yes
Will I come back? - Yes

I haven't dined here in years, and I'm happy to see there are some new-ish items on the menu.

Because we were having a late dinner, my friend and I just shared our orders:

127838 Agedashi Tofu - we both loved this one, though it is rather pricey for 4 cubes of solk todu. The seasoning was just right and the amount of sauce just. enough.

127858 Claypot Cutlet - It's actually just the pork katsu in eggy sauce - rice is served on the side. Just enough for two girls. The taste was just right.

127865 Hot Calamansi Juice - they accommodated our request for hot drinks 128513

I never really figured out whether I was Team Saboten or the other; many years ago I would have gone with the other, but now I'm not so sure. One thing Saboten had going on their side is that they kept later hours, and you can still walk in maybe before 11pm.

I roamed around Glorietta 5 to look for a nice yet inexpensive restaurant, but couldn't find anything decent. I was about to give up and go elsewhere when I stumbled upon Saboten. It has been a go-to Tonkatsu restaurant since it opened. The food is usually great and well-priced considering what you get.

Must try is their Mixed Katsu set, Tenderloin and Loin Sets. The set comes with refillable rice, miso soup and cabbage. The Katsu perfectly cooked because it was crispy on the outside and juicy from the inside, it was seasoned well, the plating was great, the texture was perfection.

As you approach the end of your meal, then comes dessert, a scoop of delicious Green Tea ice cream, very thick and creamy ice cream. Just perfect.

I really like the ambiance of the place and how friendly the staff is. Service was fast, the servers were attentive and made sure that the experience was great.

All in all, I would love to come back and dine again at this place. Saboten is a great Japanese restaurant and for foodies out there be sure to drop by.

I visit Saboten at least once a month so I figured it's about time I reviewed it again since on my first one, I mentioned this doesn't top Yabu. Apparently, over my last couple of visits I realized I like Saboten better than Yabu now. To justify that I just noticed the sides are better. Their cabbage tastes a bit more fresh, their miso soup tastes better, and even the citrus sauce (their version of Shoyu) is much more flavorful. Also, I am in love with the Chicken Cutlet Set! 128525 It's my default order and I will never ever get tired of eating it.

I also love their service. My boyfriend and I's favorite server is Angel. Sobrang fresh ng aura and his brows are always on fleek!

Saboten is by far my most favorite katsu place among those I've tried. Its tenderloin has the right softness and tenderness to it. I ordered Grated Radish Katsu Tenderloin set for P440 and I was very happy about everything it has to offer. I guess what really made this great and without the 'umay' factor is the slice of pomegranate that is squeezed all over/on top of the dish. Ahh...just remembering/ describing its taste makes me want to go back there and eat. 128513128557128523

Dined at Saboten for lunch last month with my cousins. One of them was really pushing for this restaurant and since I was also feeling it, I complied.

The place is bright and clean, the servers are really friendly and one of them even remembered us from the night before during our failed attempt to dine in right as they stopped taking in new customers for the evening 128546 haha.

I got their Mixed Set (395 pesos) which comes with shrimp, tenderloin cutlet and a crab cream croquette. Everyone else got the Chicken Cutlet Set (350 pesos). I liked what I ordered, as usual. Breading was not oily, crisp and on point! Seafood and meat served was fresh and tasted good. The crab cream croquette was yummy as well, but got too cloying too fast. I had to have my brother finish half of it. The orders were served with miso soup, rice and unlimited shredded cabbage! Yum!

For dessert, we ordered their chocolate parfait. It was kind of forgettable, so you can skip this and maybe have dessert somewhere else. Best to stick to their katsu sets.

However, we still had a pleasant and satisfying dining experience at this branch.

I meant it when I said my panko craze was switched ON. A few weeks after trying Maisen's Kurobuta maybe early November, I grabbed the opportunity to try Saboten's when I was in Makati area. My sister was not free to object so she had no choice. 128514128514

Simple, modern, and authentic Japanese feels all over, the moment we entered the restaurant. High glass walls/windows facing the road the the other side of Glorietta. Such a nice view and ambiance for our early dinner. As what I've said the wooden tables and dividers all made me feel I'm somewhere in Japan, dining in one of their classy restaurants.

Service was superb. All the waiters and waitresses were very prompt and accommodating, not to mention friendly. Di sila napapagod ngumiti. 128077🏻 I think I saw them using modern gadgets as well.. some small electronics to communicate stuff to each other. Good work! Our food was served just in time and they complied when I asked them to serve all our orders at the same time. 128077🏻

CHICKEN KARAAGE 311088️ for freeee
It was just okay for me. In terms of serving size, it was hefty. However, the taste and texture of the meat were such downers. 128531 dry and tough to chew. I compared it to one of my favorite karaages from Nagi and Nihon. Thanks to | looloo for this special by the way!

SPECIAL SHARING SET 4-4.511088️ 1050php
Perfect since it's good for two people to share. Includes two deep fried shrimp or tempura, a loin cutlet, two crab cream croquettes, and two rolled cutlets you can choose either asparagus, cheese, or plum (we chose the first two). What I first noticed when I started digging in was the panko was so gooood! Bigger looking panko than Maisen's but very soft and fine on my every bite. I like Saboten's panko better. It's official. 128514 server's mentioned they make their own pankos everyday. tempura was a big piece and I liked how it was done. crab croquette was really good during the first two bites but became really cloying after. Nakakaumay. Super creamy + crab taste kasi.. 128561 loin cutlet was good snd enough just for two people. This set was enough to keep us full plus the refillable cabbages.

Would I come back? Of course!

Our favorite katsu place. After shopping, we went here for dinner. We ordered our usual set and added this chicken cutlets- tender and flavorful. We didn't like their mango shake.

This is my favorite place to eat! The food is delicious compared to yabu and a little bit more pricy. The service is amazing and my favorite part is its location, it's in the middle of everything!
