The first time i ate here was for their chirashi sashimi set and boy was it goooood. Not the best i've had in little tokyo (that distinction still belongs to seryna) but still good enough for some merit. On my way out i saw a sign promoting the saika ramen saying it was one of the original favorite ramen bowls in Manila. Okay... mental note taken.

Fast forward to over a year later, i came back a second time just for that. I understand the local standards for ramen back then don't hold a candle to the expectations we have now, not before being spoiled by the more gourmet ramen chains we have today. So in short, i wasn't expecting as much... but i was hoping for something good nevertheless.

Saw a hardboiled egg instead of a runny aji tamago (expected that), a lighter and not as creamy soup base (check), minimal toppings/garnishing (scallions and small beansprouts, saw that coming), and the chashu was plain and very thinly sliced (yep). But was it good? Still, yes! 128077 9786

Surprisingly, their gyoza was the highlight for me. Now that was really good! They were cooked perfectly with one side a little more crispy than the other, and the pork filling slightly juicy and bursting with flavor. Wish i had space to eat more. 128513

So much food items to choose from 128525

Was craving sashimi so I opted for the Special Kaisenchirashi teisyoku @450... it came with Miso soup, salad and fruit (papaya) the sashimi was impressive! So fresh 128525 It had tuna, salmon, Uni, Mackarel, Ika, Shrimp, Hokkigai (arctic surf clam) and Hamachi! it was heaven in a box for me 127857128156128536

Somehow it's hard to remember the name of this place. In my head it was kaisi or saiki. But brother referred to this restaurant as the one in front of Little Tokyo.

I originally wanted to go to Nihon Bashitei since it's a favorite cheap jap place to go to but I predicted the place to probably be packed by the time we got there so we had to choose another one. I was dubious about trying something else but why not? The place was packed with japanese dudes. It's a good sign!

The food took a while but it's okay since we had the time to do some family bonding. I ordered their chirashi set for 350 bucks. And what arrived was this huge tray complete with miso soup, the main course itself, some japanese salad, lotus root adobo thing and honeydew slices to probably cleanse the palette. For 350 bucks it really was worth it. The bowl was filled with salmon, 2 kinds of tuna, squid, shrimp, sea urchin, 2 more kinds of fish I'm not even sure what it was. I was a happy kid. My husband's Tonkatsu set was not bad either. Thick slices of deep fried meat? Man, was he happy with his order.

What I loved about this place was heaping of food that arrives right in your face that makes the food so worth it and the quality of the food isn't compromised either.

One of my favorite japanese restaurants. Tried their sushi bento , ramen, and terriyaki chicken. All very good . As in other jap restos, they have very good bento lunch sets. They even have a loyalty card that gives you points everytime you eat there. Ample parking space and helpful and courteous staff... Highly recommended.
