What better way to bookend a really challenging week than with a food binge with work friends? My teammate invited me to join her and her sister at Sakura, and I had no reason (nor desire) to decline.

We left BGC pretty late, but traffic was still unusually light at Mckinley Road for payday Friday so we got there right before 9pm. The place was about halfway full, and by the time we left it was almost empty.  The resto itself wasn't fancy looking, but relatively neat. The grill looked clean and well maintained and that's a big comfort.

128046 US Prime Rib Karubi - at Php 1,750, it is a tad pricey for everyday dining but not too bad for what you're actually getting. It's a set for 3 so we all got a small plate of appetizer (bean sprouts and kimchi), a bowl of rice, and some fruit. The meat was good and the dipping sauce is a great combo.

128032 Salmon Sashimi - the shapes were a tad awkward but meat was so fresh. It could be even better than Nihonbashitei! We couldn't get enough so we ordered another one! 128523

127844 Ebi Tempura - Not bad at all, size of prawns are the usual, and breading is almost like that for katsu.

All in all we spent almost Php 3,000 for the meal including drinks. Like I said, it's on the pricey side but kinda worth it. Even the rice was very satisfying.

I've heard thay Sakura's been around for a very long time. Walking inside it looks like its been around since the 80's, and you see pictures of celebrities that have eaten there. Not complaining, love the homey and simple atmosphere. Nothing fancy, just the way I like it.

Food was great. Been there 3 times. Twice I had the lunch set, which are complete eals with your mains, rice, soup, and viands. Sashimi tasted fresh and the zaru soba was both refreshing and satisfying. The third time I went, I had the yakiniku. Good quality marinated beef and I had no complaints about anything. Well, it is hard to find anything bad about good yakiniku!

If you're in the Pasay Rd area and want a good meal while waiting out traffic, do consider Sakura. You won't be disappointed 128521

Got lucky when we arrived during dinner, we had a parking slot since someone's leaving a space already. Parking's very limited. We had a table reserved for 7 and were welcomed with hot towels, unlike other jap restos that you have to request pa. So good start. 128522 We ordered 5 sets of sakura steak, bacon steak cut, wagyu sirloin, 2 ebi tempura, miso soups, gandara teriyaki, tekka maki, 2 maguro sashimi, ika sashimi, liver, sashimi moriawase and sets of rice. 127843127844

Service: Servers were okay. One server got a bit impatient upon confirming again and again about their liquor (Jack black) but got her composure back after awhile. It would be nice to have clean plates since we have to cook by ourselves. Where do we put our cooked meat to preserve our desired doneness of the steaks? Err.. at the serving plates of sashimis. It would be better if their water glasses are bigger so as not to constantly ask for refills, liit eh.

Price: Overrated for most items. 128078 They should improve their serving sizes.

Food: The dipping sauce was great! The steaks are very simple which you can have anywhere. Sashimis are very fresh. Thumbs up for that. The bacon steak cut could have been tastier. The others are so so.

Verdict: Nice dinner experience but wouldn't trade kimpura over this jap resto. I will come back only if invited. 128522

Been eating here since I was a kid, I love their kalbi. The sauce is the best with lots of garlic and red sauce. They also have okay tempura. I always end up eating more rice than I usually anticipate. Still looks the same since I was a kid, maybe they need to renovate.

I love yakiniku but there's nothing fancy here. Just a regular yakiniku restaurant. Which means awesome food.

We got the U.S Prime Rib Karubi set. It had 3 bowls of miso soup, rice, appetizers, and one platter of beef to grill.

The meat was very delicious.128523 Five stars for the taste.128561 The grill had large holes in it where one slice of beef accidentally fell when
we were trying to flip it.128547

Place and service was okay. Expect to shell out extra cash but you get what you pay for.128522

It's the type of hole-in-the-wall restaurant that makes you feel like you're eating in someone's
house haha!

Service was great and the food was great too.
Tried their steak, it was deliicioooous! 128076
Prices are a little steep (for a college student like me) but it's well worth it!

A place that I always come back to :) really good food, one of my favorites. The only thing is you'll smell after. 128540

By the way, you'll notice that they have a lot of Sharon Cuneta pictures. I've heard that she's a big fan of this place too!

My favorite yakiniku restaurant.

Had the US prime rib karubi set which came with appetizers, soup, rice and fruit.

You cook the beef on the smokeless grill in front of you. The meat was very soft and tasty. Make sure to watch the beef when you're cooking so it doesn't reach tapa level. Their sauce was excellent.

The restaurant had set meals, we normally get Original Ume Karubi set meal, composed of thinly sliced US Prime Rib Karubi beef, rice, soup, and appetizers for 2. The beansprouts and kimchi were the appetizer. Best Yakiniku in Manila. 128527
