SAGAD ANG GANDA, SAGAD SA SAYA
A Sagada Trip Special

SALT AND PEPPER
After a grueling trek back home from Bomod-ok, Princess and I went to have dinner at Salt and Pepper. We freshened up first at the inn and rested for a while before heading to dinner. That was 8pm already and surprisingly, almost all restaurants were closed.

The wind blew a shivering cold while rain drizzled as we trod the path towards the restaurant. Unlike Yoghurt House which looked fancy, this one's more like a house turned into a grill. Think Tagaytay bulalo restaurants.

Since we were there to taste their bestsellers, the waitress recommended Pork Steak and Creamed Pork to us. So we obliged and had fruit wine as our drink to help us doze the night off afterwards.

As our orders came, the waiter told me that the gravy for the pork steak was not available anymore so I need to eat mine without its gravy. Pfffft. Minus 1 star! I tasted Princess' creamed pork and I kinda dig the gravy so I asked if I could get that gravy instead since my pork steak's was not available. They told me that it was worth 40php. Pfffft again. I ordered it anyway.

PORK STEAK, CREAMED PORK both P150:
The pork steak was tastier for me because of the gravy/cream I ordered. I wondered how it tasted with the real gravy on it. And then I realized my order wasn't any different at all with Princess' because I ordered the cream! But hers was T-Bone I think and mine's porkchop. We were both stuffed anyway. Maybe because we also finished the bottle of wine! Oh and the wine! Damn it tasted like plastic balloon!!!! Yes it gave you that warm feeling after but then, that taste was gruesome. I'm not gonna try that again anytime soon.

By the way, there were two guys sitting on a table beside us and they were there ahead of us. But our orders came before theirs and when they followed up, the woman on the counter realized that their orders weren't made yet. Tsk. Minus 1 star again!

I can actually review this place in two parts: (1) as a hotel because I stayed here for the whole duration of my trip; (2) as a restaurant since I conveniently ate in their restaurant just a floor below my room.

Hotel: We were given a room immediately, but while settling down we had to endure an electrician fixing our bathroom lights for about a third of an hour. He made quite a mess but at least he accomplished what he set out to do - fixing our bathroom light source. I just wished they fixed that before letting us in. In a way, we weren’t able to settle in and relax due to the disturbance. Room was spacious and they had a cute arrangement of the sheets when we got in; the sheets arrangement made the room more romantic than it should or needed it to be. Haha Anyway, no need for air conditioning since the weather will take care of that. Good thing their sheets were quite thick or else I wouldn’t have survived those nights. I think they pretty much covered the basics in this one: bathroom amenities, table, chairs, curtains, hangers, and the like. I liked the look and feel of the room. Also, whenever we were hungry, it’s quite convenient to go downstairs to the restaurant which is also well-known in the Sagada area for its good food. That’s my awful segue right there.

Resto: My first thought was, what the heck do they sell in this place since it’s always packed?! They are known for their Pinikpikan (a dish well known in the way the food is prepared). But unfortunately, when I tasted it, I was a bit underwhelmed considering the hype around it. Nevertheless, I found it pretty good. To order the Pinikpikan for dinner, make sure to pass by in the morning or lunchtime. Customers usually experience OOS of Pinikpikan because again, everyone loves it and a lot of people go there to taste it. Their servings are huge. I remember being so surprised by the chop suey. I wasn’t able to finish it. I thought it was just good for 1-2 given the price, but that could easily feed a family of four. So value for money metric is definitely a check. Service, again given the number of people who frequent this place, can be quite slow and frustrating. But if the star of all restaurant visits is the food, then it’s all good. Great food! And beer (the usual).

All in all, this was a family business which grew in time. I see why it’s well supported by the community, and I would definitely stay here if ever I go back to Sagada. Also, I’d go back to their restaurant to eat there again. That’s all for now, take care everyone!

We ordered their 3 Inutom dishes (Rosemary, Mushroom and Chili). All was really good specifically the Rosemary. For those who loved it hot, the chili will kick you on first dig. The price is reasonable plus the ambiance is cool.

Fast service. Attentive waitresses. Food arrived 15-20mins considering we were 6 with different orders.

Italian soda: Cherry Lime, tastes like the old Max candy.

Dinakiw: grilled pork with onions, good with vinegar and they serve it with baby potatos or pasta as well in replacement of rice.

Pepper steak, juicy and truly spiced. Can be with or without sauce.

Additional: Seventea (green tea infused with lemon, mint, ginger, rosemary, honey, sugar) good for coughs, colds and flu. For some herbal tea it tastes really good. Must try!!!

This inn and restaurant is one of the best in Sagada. Their rooms are quite basic, but clean. Their food is good. I ordered their lemon pie and their sizzling rosemary roast chicken with marble potatoes on the side. Their lemon pie is even better than Sagada Lemon Pie house. Their crust and curd is much better.

Sorry for the not so clear picture. The place was quite dark. Thus this picture :)) anyway, we were sad that they do not serve breakfast food during lunch. Wanted to try sana their longganisa because Isha S recommended it. Maybe next time?

Also, their WiFi only worked when lesser people were in the resto. 128523

Two in a row of food disappointment on our first day :/ This is included in the top eats in Sagada but wasn't able to prove its worth.

We got the Chicken Mushroom with Rice but the chicken tastes meh. The Mushroom Soup is a far cry from 150pesos coz it's undissolved powdered mixture. Too much unfortunate events in a day that the power went out while we're having dinner.

No more words :/

This was the last restaurant we dined in at Sagada, and it quickly became my favorite/the best one for me.

We came into the restaurant and were immediately attended to by friendly, helpful staff with smiles on their faces. 128522

We got the tapa, longganisa, ham+cheese omelette, mushroom+cheese omelette, banana cream pancakes (pictured) and their special hot chocolate. Everything was delicious and sulit! Each dish was a little over a hundred pesos each and they were really busog-lusog meals (the scrambled egg had cheese and potatoes cooked in, the pancakes were really big and fluffy plus had a sunny side-up egg on top! yum!) I would suggest their longganisa because it was seriously the most delicious longganisa I've ever tasted. Their tapa is a bit on the sweet side. Their hot chocolate (a bit pricey though at 100 pesos) was still really yummy, very chocolate-y.

All in all, we spent about 200+ pesos each and were very very satisfied with our meals. 128516

Now this. This is by far my favourite place. It serves fast and the servings were huge and tasty. They downsized their menu to be able to serve fast and accommodate more customers and i think that is a good strategy. I loved their version of hot chocolate and they serve frappe in mason jars. Cool place.
(Plus, i think the owner is a UP graduate)

The last meal of our Sagada adventure was at Salt & Pepper. We wanted a little bit more of the current flare but settled on a mix of modern and local. So, the order of the day was Etag Pizza.

While the pizza is like any other, the main ingredient, Etag, is not something you have in Manila everyday. Etag is dried or cured pork meat. Salt takes care of the preservation. It tastes smoky and salty at the same time. Texture is a little tough but not to the point of being rubbery.

While it combines well with pizza, Etag by itself is definitely an acquired taste! 128540

Pork Pepper Steak is one of their best seller partner with Buttered potatoes with a huge serving and cup of rice good for two person. I was dissapponted when it comes to serving food because you have to wait atleast 30 mins. just to served the food.
