Bagoong Rice, Sinigang na Salmon Belly sa Miso, Street Smart BBQ - supposedly a merienda turned into a heavy predinner meal at Salu-Salo with mom last December 2015 while doing Christmas shopping. And yes, this is a late post.

Their Bagoong Rice was full of ingredients - chopped onions, scrambled egg, sliced green mangoes, and pork tocino so it was super sulit. Realized that we ate it the way it was served and did not bother mixing it all up. The Sinigang na Salmon Belly sa Miso, my all time favorite in Filipino restaurants, did not fail! The sourness was superb and the dish was not fishy at all.

We added the Street Smart BBQ to our orders because I instantly craved isaw when I saw it in the menu! The dish consists of barbecued hotdogs, chicken and pork isaw, chicken feet and tenga. The barbecues were kinda bitter and difficult to chew though.

The experience was a-ok! Affordable and worthy price. Will go back here if ever I'm in the area and I'm craving for Pinoy food.

I'm back! Aileen version 2.0! Now it's time to catch up with a lot of pending food reviews.

I'll start with mom's pre 58th bday dinner at Salu-Salo UPTC a weekend before September 4.

The place was elegant. The glamorous chandeliers catches my attention. I love the interiors of TGIF Filipino cuisine.

We had bulalo, shrimps , Kare-Kare, Lechon kawali and a lot of extra rice. We thought the price is a bit higher but it's affordable and food was good for sharing. Service was fast and nice place to celebrate occasions like birthdays127881127880

A fancy place that serves filipinos best food! In the picture; the one with the tocino is the bagoong rice. And damn that's good! And the other one is the tinapa rice, there's a dilis and itlog na maalat to compliment the rice. And the tinapa rice has the unique saltiness and nostalgic feeling in the whole experience. And did I mention that these two is only for 398pesos? And it's good for 3person! Good right?

We tried Salusalo for our mother's day lunch since almost all restaurants we're full already and I guess we made the right choice. Their meals are very affordable with big servings too. 128077🏻128077🏻128077🏻

Salusalo offers Filipino Dishes and the foods were just Ok.

We ordered sinigang sa bayabas na bangus belly, and the taste seems odd. I've tried sinigang sa bayabas many times and their version is just what not I expected.

The karekare is good though, but nothing special. The ensaladang mangga is too sour and a bit few for its price. But I must admit, I love the bagoong they served with the two dishes.

Unfortunately, our addition order, tortang talong with giniling, didn't came. Their crew was apologetic, but we're a but disappointed considering that there's only a few customers at that time. Also, the services is quite slow. But I must commend them for being courteous as they ask permission if it is OK to bring in the chairs outside as it is already near closing time.

Had a great time here w my family. The food is yunmy and service is wonderful. Portion size is decent. Space is a little cramped. Noise level, tends to be loud when crowded. But good for getting Your Filipino food fix.

Order: Clam/Tahong soup, nilasing na hipon, beef rib kaldereta, pritong hito. Dont order: fishballs.

There, that's a photo of one of the pots of pandan tea that my mom and I were served. I don't remember if it was specified on the menu that the P45 pandan tea was actually one whole pot (pwede pa siguro pa refill ng hot water) so...my bad? Mom and I ordered 1 each *sigh*. The waiter thought we were that thirsty for the pandan tea 128514
As for the food, it was just ok. Mom and I shared the lengua with mushroom and fresh lumpiang gulay. No fancy presentation. It didn't warrant any wows so I forgot to take photos 128513

Service: 128077
They served with a smile even if there were a lot of people. They were alao pretty fast in cleaning the tables to accommodate the next set of customers.

Food: 128077
Yummy Filipino dishes. I loved the sourness of their sinigang sa miso salmon belly, and the taste of their boneless daing na bangus.

Place/Location: so-so
Medyo masikip. I found it hard to go out of my seat without telling the person behind me if she could move her chair. The interiors were nice, though I find it quite puzzling to find some non-Filipino decorations on their shelves.

Overall experience: 128077

One of the few remaining restaurants that I have yet to dine at until now.

The family already has favorite places in UP Town Center -- we decided to try this one as my mother-in-law is currently in town from the US and she wants rice! :)

Salusalo is another Filipino (capampangan) restaurant so we ordered the usual - kare-kare, kaldereta, tilapia sa gata, lengua and my daughter's favorite, dinuguan (tidtad).

In a nutshell, nothing really spectacular -- just your usual Filipino fare.

Price-wise, it is affordable considering that each serving is sufficient for two people.

Will we visit it again? Maybe - when our favorite places are packed. :)

One would think that because they're the only Filipino resto in UP town center they'd be good, but to my dismay - food was mediocre. They used powdered tamarind in their sinigang rather than the fresh one. Kare-Kare didn't have that peanut taste at all. So on and so forth. Only redeeming food that I ordered was puto bumbong.

I am suprised with the very poor rating for this restaurant. Well as for me, I'm giving them 4 because I liked what I ate and my family enjoyed the food.

My brother got excited with the Sinigang na Lechon, that is why we chose Salu-salo of all the restaurants at UP Town Center. I did not like it at first as I wanted some steak or pasta. When our orders were already served, still I wasn't convinced. But when I tasted the food, I said these are the good Filipino dishes we should be proud with.

We ordered:
128061Tortang talong with pork giniling - surprisingly, this was my favorite! I don't know what they put to make it taste like it did, but it was too good for the simple ingredients. I told my parents to cook the same for breakfast127775127775127775127775127775
128061Sinigang na lechon - I'm not a fan of lechon and sinigang, so I tasted only the soup. It was okay but my brothers totally liked it. 127775127775127775127775
128061Lengua with mushroom - dad said it was good, but he complained about how small the cut of the lengua was. 127775127775127775127775
128061Burong hipon with steamed veggies - The big round plate was filled with nothing but green, leafy vegetables. I didn't bother tasting it but dad loved it. He is such an herbivore. 127775127775127775
128061Sisig rice, Bagoong rice and Tinapa rice - For me, these different flavors of rice lacked in flavor. But again, my brothers were very satisfied especially with the sisig rice. 127775127775127775127775
128061Halo halo special - Not good daw said my kuya. Chowking is better, according to him. 127775127775
128061Sago't gulaman - yummy!! I just think the sago was quite undercooked, so minus a star for that 127775127775127775
128061Seafood pancit luglug - bland. It was exactly like palabok, only that it was tasteless. 127775
128061Bistek bangus belly - Bistek bangus is something new to me, and it was another dish I enjoyed. 127775127775127775127775
128061Krispy pata - This big plate of Krispy pata costed 1/3 of the bill, but it was worth it. It's the softest and crispiest pata I have ever had. It is a must try! 127775127775127775127775127775

One thing, what's up with the utensils?! It was so hard to eat using those odd spoon and fork. Funny.

Was disappointed in this resto. Ordered 2 dishes and both were not good!

Salmon belly sinigang - 128078 the sinigang soup lacked the sinigang flavor, it wasnt sour at all. The fish tasted funny, not good at all.

Adobo baboy & manok - 128078 too salty and meat was tough and dry!

Not coming back.

Today we woke up early to find a happy breakfast place nearby. Since it's just 0800H, we searched for an open establishment. We don't want to end up looking around just because everything else is closed (just like in Maginhawa)

We decided to eat at UP town center because it's new and almost every establishment is new to our taste buds.

Upon arrival, we were disappointed because all of the resto were closed!!!! We found the last resto at the back and thank God it's open!

• FOOD - The filipino dishes were okay. It was good but I think there's too much MSG which made it more tasty.

• PRICE - Sotanghon guisado is worth 110php while the tocilog is 189php with free soup and pickled veggies. It was worth it already.

• PLACE - They have this cool concept of lights. It was a dim light enclosed in capri. Their interiors and choice of displays were unique.

• SERVICE - They were perfect! The resto was suppose to open at 10am but they accomodated us at 9am and they were the only ones who did that! Plus, for a bonus they don't have service charge. Hihi

• PARKING - The UP Town Center has a big parking space but they charge 25php for the first 2 hours and 10php for the succeeding hours.
