Baguio has been the place where international students have been flocking to study, because of the cooler weather and the affordability. Of those international students, the Korean population have been on the rise. With that, they have been able to bring their flavors to us Filipinos.
Sam Gyup Sal (I know the name sounds generic) offers Korean staple dishes at a very affordable price. For 120PhP, you receive 120g of pork belly strips, or 150PhP for 120g of beef belly, guaranteed. What's amazingly funny about it, is that if you feel that they are not giving you the 120g you are paying for, you can weight it yourself.
I don't believe you can go wrong with eating samgyeopsal in any Korean restaurant. The fact is Korean food is healthy, and more importantly, delicious! But eating at Sam Gyup Sal, with its affordable price, everyone can enjoy the taste of Korea.
Along with the serving of either pork or beef, you are served with fresh vegetables typical of a samgyeopsal meal, also an endless supply of side dishes. Once in a while, you will also be given other dishes or soft drinks compliments of the owner. How awesome is that?!
Sam Gyup Sal also has an awesome spicy baby octopus dish that's amazing. I don't know the exact name of it, but when you ask for spicy octopus, they will know what you're talking about.
The only downside, and the reason why I'm only giving Sam Gyup Sal a 4, is that instead of using romaine, or any type of lettuce, they use Napa cabbage. As you foodies know, cabbage is hard to digest when eaten raw.
That's minimal though. Overall Sam Gyup Sal is a great place to bring friends. It's a place I go to when craving samgyeopsal and when my wallet is acting up.
