It was the best friend's birthday last night. We had a dinner (me, the best friend, and her boyfriend), talk about third wheel 128514

We didn't have a reservation but we only waited for about 5 minutes. It was a weekday but there were a lot of people.

Yakimix has always been my comfort buffet (does that phrase exist?) but sambokojin is better!!

What I loved about it:
1. Katsu! The sauce that I tried is great, it's like the one at yabu.
2. Grill! Their grilling options are my favorites from yakimix. Bacon and beef slices.
3. Sushi and maki. Do I have to explain these?
4. Ice cream! THEY HAVE GREEN TEA ICE CREAM! And vanilla of course.
5. Desserts. I kinda regret it that my new year's resolution is to not eat cake haha! But so proud of myself for being able to resist the beautiful cake selections. They also have chocolate fountain which is great for kids, and halo-halo station.

My fave part of eating at buffets are the desserts!!! Sambo kojin has many varieties of desserts and it makes me want to eat everything on their table. Everything's just too good! 128077🏻

I don't really enjoy buffet chains... Hindi sulit sakin... Plus sometimes, the taste of the food served isn't that good, as they put quantity over quality... You tend to eat more meh or just okay tasting food to get your money's worth...

I had dinner here a few night back with my clinic ates & secretaries-- who are all so nice and kulit! This is a Japanese themed buffet, though they do serve limited Korean dishes... The main draw is their smokeless grill, wherein you can choose the meat/seafood/innards that you want to cook... I managed to overcook most of the items I tried to grill!128517 I opted to stuff myself with tempura after my grill experience... I also enjoyed the Katsu station which had different kinds of katsu...

This is one of those times when I enjoyed the company more than the food...128522

Be careful of the vallet parking! I got a flat tire and the vulcanizing shop pulled out two huge nails from that tire... I don't know where they park the cars...128545

The moment I called this restaurant up for a reservation, my gut feel kicked in to tell me to prepare a less than satisfactory review for this place. And, boy was I correct.

Upon arriving at 6PM the next day, a rattled frontdesk person initially gave me the cold shoulder and accommodated other people who were behind me in the line. I know I'm not the tallest person in the world, but I was 100% sure he saw me as I was under his nose. Next time, I hope we all respect the power of falling in line. Anyway, my family and I were eventually ushered by an unsmiling woman to our seat.

The server who welcomed us in our table was nice enough to explain the "mechanics." He was overexcited and the initial explanation was a bit unclear, so had to ask him to repeat. Apparently, if one of us is celebrating our birthday, there has to be at least one person who'll pay the full amount (PHP749), while the rest will pay the promo rate (PHP699). The confusing explanation is forgivable, as he's the first person to actually smile at us. Oh, and this valuable info on rate wasn't shared to me when I called for reservation. Even though I said we had a birthday celebrant with us, twice or thrice even. And I did ask how much the rate was, and distinctly remember being told it was a PHP699.

The buffet spread was fine. Filling enough, but not of the best quality. Assorted Japanese and Korean food. Desserts. Some raw meat that we can cook in the (not-so-) smokeless grill. I always go for the Japanese assorted sushi, and salmon sashimi. I've tasted fresher options, but again, we're paying less.. so there. Those preparing the food were also unaccommodating and unsmiling, as if silently thinking--just go ahead, get your food and don't talk to us.

Oh and by the way, where in the world did all their spoon go? There was none served in our tables, I even went directly to the service area to get it myself but there was no clean spoons. Do we eat cake, ice cream and soup using chopsticks? Anyway, one of the crew members said he'd just serve it to us--the spoon never came. So I had to use the mini spoons that's supposed to be used for the condiments. #sorrynotsorry

All these riot on a Monday night. I can only imagine how the service is on a weekend or a holiday.

In conclusion, I would have rated this place lesser if not for the fact that my dad, the birthday celebrant, was happy enough and enjoyed the food. At least we have that to be thankful for.

For anybody who's hungry, this would be a good place to go to. The variety isn't really very wide because they specialize specifically on Japanese & Korean food which are two great cuisines. Food was delicious and I love how interactive you can be cause you can cook your own food (typical Korean Restaurants). Even if their food is tasty, accommodation and parking is quite hard. Also, since it was a buffet, you'd expect that one of the few jobs of the waiters is giving out drinks speedily but they have failed in this aspect. (I understand that they have to frequently clean up the plates on the table but there are lots of them so...)

Comparable to Yakimix but it's a fusion of Japanese and Korean so they have a lot more food choices. I also liked the taste of food better. Plus, they have several kinds of Katsu!! 128525 Enjoyed having dinner here despite the fact that it gets super crowded on weekends. Make sure you reserve a table before you go.

The sushi tasted stale and the set-up is quite crowded. The seats are hard to get to consider in you'll need to step out of them periodically to get more food. Suggest you Ty the Eastwood branch instead as parking here is terrible.

Be careful of their scheme. 1 full paying adult if your birthday is 1 day before or after your birthday. 2 paying adults if your birthday is 2 days before or after. And 3 paying adults if your birthday is 3days before/after. 1 paying adult means 700+. Their lunch rate during weekdays is only 599. The celebrant is not really free. You just had a discount.

I always get tossed the question, which is better? Sambokojin or Yakimix? It’s a tough question for me since its almost the same thing. It’s like comparing Canon and Nikon. Both have good and bad qualities. Personally, I like the sushi selection of Sambo more. But I kinda noticed that Yakimix has more variety. This branch in West Ave. is quite alright. It’s not super busy on a weekday as compared to their other more popular branches.

I will always, always love Sambokojin! Aside from having my first internship here (in edsa though) I believe all branches serve the same great quality and taste of the buffet menu.

Not only that, the staff are always good :) One thing I love about buffets and restos is that you're extra special when it's your birthday :) And Sambokojin has staff that really have high energy and funny performances :)

My forever favorite is their Kani Bacon (crab sticks rolled in bacon) and their Cheese Katsu! And added on my list of faves is their super yummy and tender Bulgogi 128525128525128525
