One of the captivating landmark or historical site of Siquijor Island you shouldn't missed in your tour is to visit the San Isidro Labrador Parish Church also known as the Lazi Church which is located in the municipality of Lazi, Siquijor.

According to Wikipedia, Lazi Church is a Catholic Church within the jurisdiction of Dumaguete. It became independent parish in 1857 under the advocacy of Saint Isidore the Laborer. Also known as the farmer's church, it was nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage for the Baroque Churches of the Philippines.

I was fascinated with the beauty of the Lazi Church when we arrived. The church was made of coral stones and hardwood. The vicinity of the church is big and spacious.

Inside, I can see how time passed-by as the old structures of the welcoming church can be easily distinguished. Some parts of the church were closed and cannot be visited for some reason that it can be damage easily.

Outside, it's very green. It was surrounded with trees and plants. And it's clean. I can guaranteed you that they know how to take care of Lazi Church.

Siquijor is mysterious and people mistakenly think that this place is hunted or home of bad spirits. But, when I visited this province myself, I just saw how religious the people are. The evidence is the churches situated in every town that are still standing over ages. One of them is the popular San Isidro Labrador in Lazi.

128205HOW TO GET THERE:
We rode a roro from Dumaguete Port to Siquijor Port. Travel time is two hours. When we reached the pier, we hired a tricycle driver/tour guide to explore us on the different tourist spots of the island.

128176BUDGET:
P100 - Roro fare per way
P1,000 - Whole day group tour
P250 - Burger we bought near the pier

After we refreshed ourselves in Cambugahay Falls, our tour guide / driver brought us to the church because they are the same way to each other.

San Isidro Ladrador Church and Lazi Convent are still standing for over 150 years up until now. They are made up of hard woods and sea stones. Imagine these materials are so strong that they can last for more than decades.

When we entered inside the church, the sound of the old woods of the floor were lingering through our ears. It indicated that it's old but still strong. What I love about this church was the bluish green color of the altar. Even the chairs are also old and need to be repaired.

Outside the church is the area for candles. There were also people selling candles for P1.00 each so I bought 10pcs to help me in a small way. Children were also roaming outside asking for money or food.

I believe in the power of God even if I don't usually go to church. I offered a simple prayer for our safety and guidance for our vacation. That is always what I do whenever I'm on church for the first time. I hope that San Isidro Labrador stands for many years so people from other areas can also see its beauty.

Fascinating how they maintain this church which was built in the 1800's. The ceiling despite that it appears to have holes already are still on their original state. Considering that their floor is also made of wood and how every morning the community will wax it together makes you feel awe about the bond in this island. I love old church structure so this one is a big hit for me 10084️ Also, their patron saint is San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of the farmers.

I also made a wish since it's kinda a belief of mine that whenever you visit a new church, your wish will be granted. So visit this place, and make your wish happen.

I always want to visit a church whenever I'm in a place I've never been to. And for this trip, we headed to San Isidro de Labrador church. As my friend is not a Catholic, Im the only one who entered the church. One old woman approached and asked me to buy candles from her. It only costs one peso a candle. After buying, I immediately went at the back of the church where I can place the candles. After saying my prayers, I went inside the church and did some follow-up prayers. 128514 Before heading out.. I remembered what my officemate told me, so I went beside the church's door, knocked 3 times and made a wish.
The convent/museum is just across the church but we were not able to visit as we were in a hurry. 128514128514

They say that time changes things...that may be true in some cases, but the 6 years between my last visit to the San Isidro Labrador church and my recent trip has shown me that there are some things that don't change.

6 years ago, I used my trusty digicam and took a photo of the lovely church and its grounds. That day earlier this week, I tried taking another shot from a similar angle, and it looked just as beautiful and felt just as it did back in 2010.

The San Isidro Labrador Church back in 2010 was having its interior repaired, but its repairs didn't hide the fact that the church itself is beyond beautiful. Apart from the historical feel of the stones and other materials that make up the church and the tower, the grounds are well maintained by the locals, and are a beautiful sight to behold alongside the church itself.

The convent across the street looks the way it did back in 2010 as well. It is not merely a convent in name, but it serves as a learning institution to the youth of this area. Being as we were there early in the morning, there were not many people about. But the last time we were there, kids were running about the convent grounds.

Surely, visitors to this area, especially on the way to Cambugahay Falls, must take the time to drop by and enjoy the atmosphere of the church and to appreciate its architecture and its history.

PS. Since it was my second time to this church, I don't get my free wish/prayer answered. 128513

I think I did something good today.
