During our family trip to Coron, we had a side trip to Sangat Island... Our itinerary included an overnight stay at Sangat Island Dive Resort... I remember that it was booked because it was the perfect jump off point to explore the eleven shipwrecks of Japanese World War II battleships just off the island of Coron...
So we packed a small bag for the overnight stay... We got there by two outrigger boats... When we were dropped off the island, we were greeted by the dogs of the resort owner... Most of the guests are of American or European descent, who were there to scuba dive! I have never had the time to take lessons for a scuba license, so I had to stick to snorkeling...
This place is absolutely beautiful! It's a stretch of white sand, very fine and pure... You eat at the tables along the beach, shaded by huge trees... The food is mostly fish and seafood, with lots of paco salad and eggs... They do serve meat, but stick to the big crabs that they cook to perfection...
The accomodation of the resort is an actual nipa hut... But, you won't really be roughing it, as all the amenities you need are present... They have a decent shower and toilet... They do have electric fans, but the sea breeze is cool at night... You really talk with other tourists because there is nothing much to do at night... But they have jet skis and kayaks available, so water sports galore in the morning! Plus, you will definitely hit all the shipwrecks around the area, one in particular looks like the Titanic to me!
Believe me, this place is one of the best spots to snorkel in the country! Even better, scuba dive!!!
That's the nipa hut I stayed at in the picture, really pretty cool!
