Schmidt’s is one of the well-known hotdog brands in Manila. It serves various well-garnished hotdog sandwiches at relatively steep price but are worth every penny. It has been years since I last had a bite of Schmidt’s hotdogs and when I spotted it last weekend, I made sure that I do not miss my chance sinking my teeth into some juicy meaty treat.

Hello, Schmidt’s!

The place is pretty small and seemed to be designed to look like a kiosk with a few tables and benches for dining. Since Podium is hardly packed even during holidays, we easily got a table.

My mom and sister were still stuffed from lunch so we decided to just go with one sandwich—The Julius (PHP190). I also added PHP60 to get one liter of Iced Tea which is normally priced at PHP90.

Service was quick and we got our meal and drink in less than 5 minutes.

The iced tea wasn’t very sweet making it a great thirst quencher.

I fell in love with the hotdog sandwich’s bread. It was very soft and fluffy.

The hotdog was juicy and flavorful, as always. It had a slight smoky taste and I loved its firm texture. It was a tad salty because of the generous serving of parmesan cheese and bacon strips but it was balanced by the bread, cabbage and caesar dressing.

Overall though, it was a filling 7 inch sandwich and definitely value for money given its taste.

A quick weeknight dinner of hotdog sandwiches at Podium. We got their best sellers, Coney Island Chili Dog for dad and Wagamama for me. Mom had the Julius.

Dad must have been hungry as he wiped out the sandwich right away. The huge hotdog sandwiches were pretty messy to eat. The fork, knife and gloves were a huge help.

My Wagamama had the option for Japanese Mayo or Wasabi Mayo. They forgot to ask me which one I preferred. Good thing I was able to let them know before it was served. The bread was big and soft. The hotdog was tasty. The toppings and dressing though didn't taste like Japanese Mayo. Ordinary Mayo was more prominent.

The sweetness and the blend of their 1 Liter iced tea was just right. I had a couple of sips from dad's drink.

The table and benches though are pretty small. I didn't feel comfortable sharing a bench with my dad. I was seated in an awkward position.

The hotdog was pretty decent but I would probably enjoy the Julius more since it had bacon.

So we had a late merienda , we had the coney island, julius , and seattle .
Coney island - where is the chili ? Who took it ?
Julius - good bacon but could've had a bit more of the parmessan
Seattle - J didn't let me taste but it disappeared , so it must've been good . It was sour, she said , but in a good way.
The different sandwiches had their distinct flavors BUT it was the condiments , the sausages were all bland and tasted all exactly alike. Would have enjoyed a little spice and seasoning .
The buns were not evenly toasted .
And the price , a bit expensive P250 per head for a hotdog sandwich and a drink , for that price, better to get 2 Johnsonville's each at the family mart chain instead i think . Now, thats a great juicy sausage that pops when you bite in .
Overall. Was just OK , due to our hunger .

Schmidt’s Gourmet Hotdogs has been around since 2012 and it’s still a crowd favorite because of it’s world class hotdogs. Now, I say it’s world class not just of the quality but also it brings you around the world with their signature hotdog flavors for each country! We tried their Julius Caesar and it’s really good because it’s my favorite dressing. Haha., kidding. They also have different flavors for each city too. You can spot Schmidts in Mercato and Cucina Andare. :)

The sheer size of the hotdog and generous toppings were enough to whet my appetite but sadly, after one bite, the Coney Island hotdog was a major disappointment. The star of any hotdog sandwich is the hotdog itself and this is where Schmidt's fails miserably. Branding their product as a "gourmet hotdog", I was expecting a meaty hotdog in a casing that "snaps" with each bite; not a soft, extender-filled inferior product. (I've had better-tasting hotdogs at Family Mart!) Don't get me wrong - I enjoy both cheap and good quality hotdogs. This is simply a case of misleading branding.

If you're craving for a hotdog fix, then this is the place. Coney Island Chili dog is the way if you want that classic chili dog taste. Although, the chili aint that "chili" unless you took a bite of the jalapeño peppers on top. But still, its mouthwatering good and perfect for people who is not into much spicy food.
The wagamaga dog on the other hand is a fusion of Japanese and American taste. You can taste the slight hint of wasabi on the dressing. Overall, it is a hotdog craving satisfied.128077🏼128077🏼

We ordered the Coney Island hotdog and the Seattle, one in bratwurst and the other in frankfurter, it was okay, both had their distinct taste, Its okay because i think I paid too much for a hotdog sandwich, 200 for each sandwich, maybe it would better if it had a side of chips or something, loved that they anticipated that it would be hard to eat by providing plastic gloves, loved their ice tea too

Yumyumyum!

Hotdogs!!
I tried their Coney Island Chili Dog, the buns were soft! So as the hotdog. For me its easy to chew 128522128522! Their homemade chili was delicious and not the spicy, but the jalapeño gives that extra kick! It has cheese and sour cream too, which really compliments each other!

I had a great time dining here! You should try it!

Went to Schmidt's 2 days in a row. Ordered the same thing - The Julius. The parmesan cheese was noticeably less than our 1st day.. Hmmm..

But the sausage was still good! 128077

First time to try this and I loved their frankfurters! It was really tender and juicy. The juices were dripping with ever bite. I ordered "The Julius" -- bacon, slaw, caesar dressing, parmesan cheese. I had the slaw and dressing separated. I like my sausages with mayo and mustard dressings only, I asked for it instead. The hotdog bun was soft 128077

They provide you with a plastic glove, fork & knife so you have an option which method is easier as ut can be messy to eat with your bare hands.

They have a list of hotdog combinations to choose from. No room to customize toppings, dressings, etc.

Will definitely come back and try the other variety. Overall, I liked this better than Mr Franks.

One of the best dogs I've had so far!

I got their Seattle Dog which consists of the following: Sauerkraut, Pickle Relish, Onion, Mayo, Siracha, Mustard and BBQ Sauce. Of course, what is a dog without bacon? 128514 I asked them to add bacon and their homemade chili (since I wanted to try that one, too)

My dog costed Php 210, quite expensive for a hotdog sandwich, but it was worth it! They were very generous with the toppings that I had to clean up the sides of the sandwich to take a non-messy & decent photo of my dog. 128557128514

Tastewise, 128077128077128077! Will deffo go back to try the other unique dogs they have to offer.
