For all our Little Tokyo dates, this is the first time we dined at Sekitori. Surprising, since this is one of the bigger joints in the area and their location is pretty prominent.

I noticed that most, if not all, of their servers speak Nihongo! Pretty impressive. But I HATED that there was a cockroach on the wall beside our table!!! 128534Nothing ruins a (first) meal like seeing a little creeper.

We had their Ika Shiokara | PhP110, which was less salty (and better!) than any other restaurant's we've tried.

Uni Sashimi | PhP290 - We can never go Jap without having some uni. Sekitori's serving was huge and texture was so creamy! Of course, it was also more expensive than the usual. Haha.

Gyutan Steak | PhP390 - This is served with a sour-tasting sauce I didn't really care for. But other than that, this dish was excellent. The tongue was thinly sliced, soft and slightly rare, and topped with spring onions that at least helped with the sourness of the sauce.

Kushiyake Moriawase | PhP280 for 5 types of yakitori -  We love our yakitori so we had to try Sekitori's. The verdict: this has nothing over Kikufuji's yakitori.

Tsukune Shio | PhP160 - Skewered chicken balls. Nothing special. We could have gone without this.

Ika Natto | PhP120 - This is squid and fermented soybean-- gooey, sticky, and it smells! We tried this out of curiosity after seeing a character in an anime episode get traumatized by natto. LOL. To confirm that particular episode, yes, natto is nasty.

A lot of Sekitori's japanese patrons ordered the hotpot (they have meat hotpot and seafood hotpot), the ingredients for which were served piled high in a huge plate. We're keen on trying that out on our next visit. For now it is clear to us that Sekitori is not a yakitori place.

We will always come back to Sekitori to satisfy our authentic Japanese food cravings. Service is not really good but the food tastes heavenly. Though at times, their meat is hard to chew but the sauces and dressing complement well with the dish.

#nikomaki tomato cheese, yep that's tomato, wish it was bacon though. just one of the appetizer i've tried in #sekitori #littletokyo , summing up my experience, i can conclude that it's really not about the food, it's the feeling of experiencing an authentic meal with kimono dressed servers , tatami mats and blending in with the japanese customers by pretending you can understand what is on the menu. (I barely recognize the items on the menu)

I must say that this is the most authentic japanese restaurant I've ever been so far... When it comes to the interiors of the store that is.

I was here for dinner hoping to satisfy my ramen cravings that has been going on for a very, very long time now.

When I walked in, what greeted me were a few servers saying the usual greetings you receive from a Japanese resto, "irashaimase". But I my attention was directly focused on the shelves near the door. Shelves full of Manga collection 128525128525128525 Nice! I liked this place in an instant. Aprub!

I asked the server who came to attend me if they served ramen. She said they do but only offered two kinds. One was Tonkotsu tsukemen and the other was Cyuka tsukemen. I ordered the ramen that was familiar to me... The Tonkotsu tsukemen. Even though am one who likes to go adventure for food, I didn't pick Cyuka because:
1. Ramen is kind of expensive (for me) and I'd rather have something familiar than waste my money if the unfamiliar order is a downer.
2. My stomach is just the most unpredictable part of my body and it acts up almost all the time and I don't want yet another visit to the ER.

So my order was placed. And upon waiting, I sit quietly to observe. In front of me was a big flatscreen t.v. showing a japanese show. On the walls, I see frames with sumo-pictured playing cards. Hmmm. This is something. But the smell of this place.. was off. It smelled old. I don't know how else to describe it but I don't like it.

My order arrived almost 20 minutes later. I was impressed at first on how it looked. They separated the soup in a small bowl and the veggies along with tamago, menma, and the noodles in another big bowl. Aah, good thing they did this because I forgot to ask them to take out the menma. And because I had a good menma experience in Hokkaido Ramen Santouka, I thought to smell the menma. And it just was like *** menma smelled liked. Ugh! Had they not separated the whole thing, I would have not touched my bowl. XD

I scrutinized the soup and got really disappointed at what I saw: small bits/slices of Cyasyu. Like really??? This is it???!

I also didn't like the noodles they used. They were pretty long and thick (looked like noodles of lomi) and being not a chopsticks expert, I got a bit sweaty just by transferring the noodles to the soup bowl. 128517

I paid 390.40 (including the tax and service charge. Ramen is worth 320php) for this and didn't finish even half of my bowl of ramen. Ambilis lumamig ng soup tapos yung ramen malamig parang galing sa ref ? Though I really liked how the veggies were steamed to perfection. Crunchy crunch crunch.

Sa huli, kahit pinili ko yung pamilyar sa akin, hindi pa din ako natuwa sa inorder ko. I thought it was just a waste of my money. 128546 I'll never go back here again.

Two stars kasi kahit papaano, naimpress pa din ako sa Manga collections. 128513
