Due to the embedded procrastinator's mindset in my brain, went Christmas shopping three days ago for my siblings and parents. My girlfriend tagged along to the very crowded mall.

Whenever we eat at town, there are days wherein we challenge ourselves to eat in an establishment we haven't tried at town before. So given this constraint, we can still go to places we may have eaten in before elsewhere but not in the alabang town center branch.

During this particular visit, we decided that the new place we were going to try was Shi Lin. I have never been to any Shi Lin establishment before. With this being said, i was actually surprised that they asked us to complete the order sheet ourselves. We ordered hakaw, regular and truffle flavored xiao long bao, and the meat soup. In chinese restaurants, we usually ask for cold tea. Unfortunately, Shi Lin does not have any house tea available. Fortunately, they offer oolong tea for just 40 pesos. And that particular order is refillable already!

Truffle flavored option was rich! Liked how it tasted. But it's definitely expensive compared to the other options. And there's a good reason for the higher price. 6 pieces is sold for 350 php. The meat soup was great as well. Meat was tender. Serving size though was a bit small.

Oh almost forgot! Ordered the spicy jellyfish as well. Did not find it spicy at all! And it was actually a bit sweet!

Servers could have been friendlier. But these guys are working through the holidays, so kudos to them. I don't know what it's like to need to work through the holidays.

That's it for now. Take care everyone. And before i forget, Merry Christmas everyone! :)

Been having so much pizza, pasta and burgers lately that hubby and I decided to have something 'light' for lunch last Sunday. Shi Lin has become one of our go-to places and we found ourselves heading there once again.
As usual, got their XLB. Bawi from the XLB at Lugang 128518 I also got their Taiwanese spinach and shrimp and pork dumplings.
We also tried their beef noodle sauce and it brought us right back to Taipei! Really good! Very reminiscent of the one we had at hanlin, serving is also good for two 128077🏼
XLB is good as always, I think I can finish one serving by myself 128513

Taipei hangover! Been on an Asian streak lately if you've noticed 128516 went on holiday in Taipei a week ago and I know we're all foodies here so you have got to go! Was able to try the Michelin starred DTF right in Taipei 101. Wasn't really too fond of xlb but I had to give it a go since we were already there. All I can say is - mind blown!!! Anyways on to my real review 128517
Shi Lin is the closest you'll get to authentic xlb. The owners (who also own lorin's patis btw) really spent their time in studying and mastering the art of making these delectable goodies. I can say that they're even better than the ones we had at Phoenix court.
The presentation, menu and even the 'assembly line' is really reminiscent of DTF. The only difference I guess is the way of ordering. In DTF, you order checklist style like in Tim ho wan.
We got 10 pieces of xlb, shrimp and pork siomai, kang kong and porkchop with rice. The xlb was very good. Quick fix if you're really craving a taste of Taipei. Probably the only (slight) difference is in the Tate of the soy sauce and vinegar.
But the welcome surprise was the porkchop! Super tender! The serving was really good for two too! Tasty and the rice was also yum!
Used to ignore shi Lin but it's now on my list of go to restos in ATC 🙂

We have been customers of Shi Lin since they opened at ATC and have always loved their food. This time, I skipped my usual Xiao Long Bao and tried their century egg congee with pork (they gave out generous servings of pork in my bowl, but I find the century egg serving too limited - I think only one egg was used). Espie and Kandyce got their usual braised beef noodles which they loved.

House tea is not free, compared to other Chinese restos, and they charge P40 for a refillable pot.

For group/big family orders, check your bill for items that were charged (or not charged) as they usually have billing errors. Oh, and it does take time for the bill (and the change) to come out. Patience is a virtue.

Their xiao long bao is arguably the best in town. They get the wrapper right and their dumplings consistently have the soup intact. Unfortunately the service was horrible. They missed out on our 2nd order, so we were waiting for nothing. No apologies. No attempt to make amends. Clear example that dining is not just about the food, but an experience.

Rainy days are good especially if you're having lunch at Shi Lin.

We had our usual Xiao long bao , spicy jelly fish , pork chops and Beef noodles.

You can see the kitchen staff preparing your xiao long bao as you await your orders.

Place seems understaff as service is slow even on opening hours.

Food is the usual yum and not MSG tainted.

Prices are reasonable and serving size is good to its price.

Cheerios!!! Happy eating

Our default orders are the xiao long bao, pork chop with egg and rice, stir fried bok choy and native spinach and they never fail to satisfy! Even the oolong tea has a unique aroma (I can't quite tell if it's fruity or reminiscent of rose petal infusion) that just leaves a very pleasant taste to the mouth. By the time I thought to take a picture, the food was all gone. The price tag? Php841.

Chinese foodie is my ever loyal comfy food. It's like my best buds who knows me how to make me happy. This establishment may not be considered as authentic Chinese resto compared to Emeralds and others in china town but this is one of the better steamed dumplings. Today's visit, I ordered xiao long bao, shrimp and pork dumplings, stir fry Taiwanese spinach and hot tea.

Their porkchop over fried rice P228 is good enough to share. The Xiao Long Bao is always yummy especially their truffle ones! Got the spinach veggies dish and dumplings noodle soup. Love the price points at this place! And it's never full so you can always guarantee quick service.

Had our late lunch at Shi Lin, craving for their Xiao Long Bao. We were offered with the fried rice and chicken chops. Already good for two, Shi Lin's chicken chops (P245) is way too good I want to have it for dinner na rin!

Xiao long bao (P165) remains to be the best side dish! You can't go to Shi Lin without getting one. And their P40 refillable house tea is a must. Makes me think they should also offer this for free as with other Chinese restos. Added steamed mantou (P65) for the little girl to satisfy her love for siopao buns!

Great food, great service!
