I had an impromptu dinner with a former colleague and both of us were craving for XLB. We were supposed to go to Glorietta however we're to lazy to 128694🏽 so we decided to just stay at the GB area, good thing Shi Lin is here! 128513 We got the following:

127860 Century Egg with Bonito Flakes - 127775127775127775 I like how this dish was presented. Also, the Bonito flakes added another layer of flavor and texture to Century Egg.
127860 Xiao Long Bao (Original) - 127775127775127775 I like it,but I don't 128156 it. I'm not so sure if it's just me because I was looking forward to eating XLB at Lugang or MS.
127860 Prawn in Salted Egg - 127775127775 a total let down for me. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and has a nice bite to it however the coating for me was was to dry and has this floury taste. 128533
127860 Stir Fry Taiwanese Spinach - 127775127775127775 nicely cooked as it was not too oliy and at the same time the spinach was not overcooked.
127860 Fried Rice with Shrimp and Egg - 127775127775127775 this one is 128077🏻128077🏻. The rice is very 128523128523 that you can eat it even if you do not have ulam. They didn't scrimp on the shrimp as you can almost get a piece everytime you scoop a serving.
127860 Almond Jelly with Lychee - 127775127775127775 I like this alot. I also love how they presented it instead of the usual chunks of almond jelly, it was presented like you ate eating taho. 128522

Overall experience is 127775127775127775. Service was not that good. It took us a a few attempts call the attention of the waiters considering the place was not that full yet. Counting the customers, there were only about 5 tables occupied.

Just a 128221, it's better to get a reservation rather than attemp to walk in. We dined here Wednesday night and the place was starting to get packed around 6:30pm.

We ordered the congee with century egg, the pork and shrimp shaomai and porkchop with fried rice and egg.
128176Pricing - 11088️11088️11088️11088️ this place for me is cheap. The serving of the food relative to the price is a lot.

128069 Taste - 11088️11088️11088️ the congee and porkchop with rice was okay. I enjoyed them but there was no wow factor. For the pork and shrimp shaomai, I usually don't notice the difference of the shaomai or xiao long bao between restaurants, but not this time. I was disappointed not because it was bad, but perhaps because I know it could've been better.

127752 Ambiance 11088️11088️11088️ we arrived around 1pm and the place wasn't packed at all. It had a typical restaurant ambiance, I guess.

128129🏻 Service 11088️11088️11088️ Servers weren't really friendly. They were attentive but it looked like they aren't enjoying their jobs. I think it's unfair for me to say this but other servers know how to greet their customers. Food came around 20 minutes after ordering (not sure about this, but it sure wasn't fast).

Overall, the dining experience wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. They were able to fill our tummies for an affordable price but that's it. I think I'll come back to this place, but not real soon.

Deep Fried Mantou!

Their other dishes were okay. Had their Original Xiao Long Bao, Hakaw, Noodles with Sesame and Peanut Sauce, Braised Beef Noodle Soup and Mushroom & Vegetable Bun. The noodle soup and xiao long bao outshone the others. Better skip the bun for it was bland. And yes, the mantou was good! This is good for quick lunch or dinner stops if there are no other choices.

Surprise to see this branch of Shi Lin in Makati. I've been a frequent visitor of Shi Lin BGC before because of their discount voucher for noodles in different website. So I've always tried their noodles which for me is good for a chinese noodle soup. This time I visited without a voucher so our gameplan was to try out some of their other dishes.

This branch interior is way different from their BGC branch. This place transport you to one of those worn-out chinese resto in binondo. The design was so rugged. Flooring got those broken and missing tiles. Wall was designed to be dirty looking. It was quite unique especially when you are in a ayala mall like greenbelt. I did like the design reminds me some branches of TheOriginalSavory.

For the food we tried out their taiwanese tofu, shrimp pork spicy dumplings, double boiled beef soup and steamed soy chicken. I like anything tofu including those stinky tofu that I've tried in China. So Shi Lin tofu for me tasted great. Firm silky chilled tofu with oyster sauce taste great! The beef soup reminds me of bulalo. The beef was not so tender and was quite dry but I love the soup. Love gingery flavor of it. The dumplings were so so. Taste good but have tasted other dumplings that tasted better. Steamed chicken was good but needed the dark soy for flavor.

Overall I think I'll stick with their noodles and some of those tofu. If you are looking for a not too pricey chinese resto shi lin is a great option. Just don't comopare it too much with other high end chinese resto. 128522

Tried the braised beef noodles, pork chop with fried rice, chorizo bun and xiao long bao. All are uniquely delicious. Love it so far.

DTF posts all over instagram made me crave for XLB and dimsum. We heard mass in GB and the nearest place to get XLB would be Shi Lin. I remember enjoying their XLB before so I guess it will be a good "substitute" for now. We ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork and Shrimp Siomai, Noodles w Peanut Sauce, Pork Chop, and Fried Rice.

It was just okay. Felt like everything was too ordinary. Nothing special. The siomai and xlb was not that yummy anymore. The wrapper was too thick. The noodles w peanut sauce was too heavy and thick. Out of all that we ordered, we liked the Porkchop the most. It was good and tender! And the fried rice was tasty and flavorful! 128513

Service was just okay. The place looks very sad, as well. 128560

Yina M was craving for a lot of things that day-- dimsum, pho and fried mantao! As usual, we can't decide where to eat so while browsing on Instagram, I saw an announcement that Shi Lin just opened their newest branch in Greenbelt. I thought it was the perfect venue for lunch since 1) they offer a variety of dimsum, 2) they have fried mantao!!, and 3) they don't have pho but at least they have noodles. Pwede na rin. 128514

Kirby G joined us for lunch so we split several orders for us to share. Yina and I had the chicken noodle soup which was so bland. 🙄 Their Xiao Long Bao and Pork and Shrimp dumplings were okay. Not comparable to Lugang's but it wasn't bad. Again, pwede na. 128517 Yin and Kirbs also got a bowl of fried rice.

Service was okay. Prices are more affordable than Lugang or other restos offering the same food. I'd probably come back, but not anytime soon.

Do you remember the first time you tried your favorite food/dish/snack? I don't. But i sure as heck like mantao! This hasn't crossed over to loving it yet but there is a secret (ok not-so secret) obsession for it.

Lunch was spent with Carla M and Kirby G at Shih Lin. Mantao is on the menu and i wasn't going out without trying it. Carla and i split an order of chicken noodle soup, which was pretty tasteless on its own. I guess they let you customize it with their sauces. Kirby and i shared fried rice And we all shared two orders of dim sum - XLB and pork and shrimp. I wasn't too satisfied as i found the food quite bland. Even the mantao lacked frying and crunch for me. But that's just me, i like my mantao a bit brown than golden.

Not coming back anytime soon, unless i can't find a place to satisfy that mantao craving.
