Even before the noteworthy Taiwanese restaurants stormed our country, Shi Lin is one of the very firsts to introduce our tastebuds to Taiwanese food.

Got invited for a looloo rendezvoos at the Podium branch and glad to have been served with my usual orders.

STRING BEANS with MINCED PORK. This has always been my favorite dish from Shi Lin. I love the charred green beans mixed with intense flavoured sauce and pork. I hope they have options to have it spicy.

FRIED RICE with SHRIMP, PORK and EGG. The perfect pair for String Beans and Minced Pork. They confirmed that they cook rice in wok which is mandatory to give it the smoky flavor that makes this rice dish so addicting.

ORIGINAL XIAO LONG BAO. I love the mild broth and that they serve 10 pieces for only PHP275.

CHINESE PEPPER SHRIMP. I'm not a fan of any asian salt and pepper dish but I thought that they were able to present the dish perfect for instagram. I tried one and liked the cook on the shrimp but I guess I will never learn to appreciate salt and pepper in shrimp but the rest of the group enjoyed it.

HAKAW. Another favorite dumpling of mine. The dumpling skin was very delicate and thin, the perfect support system to a delicious shrimp inside.

BRAISED BEEF NOODLES. The braised beef was tender but the for me the broth was the star of the dish. It was rich and has a combination of sweet and salty flavor.

NUTELLA DUMPLING. I initially find this weird and it's my first time to try sweet dumpling ever. at first bite, I knew right away na kulang ang isa.

Overall, Shi Lin has remained consistent through the years. I remember celebrating my birthday here 4 years back enjoying the same dishes (most) I had during the rendezvoos and still getting the same experience.

Thanks looloo and Shilin

One can probably count on their fingers the number of pure Taiwanese food establishments around. There aren't many. They are usually mistaken as Chinese restaurants as well. The difference is not obvious as both cuisines offer similar dishes. This is because Taiwanese food is a combination of influences from a number of provinces and cities in China.

Shi Lin, in particular, showcases popular recipes we've been accustomed to and their own creations. Their best sellers, Xiao Long Bao and Beef Noodles provides the familiar taste, while the likes of Chinese Pepper Shrimp, Peanut Noodle and String Beans with Minced Pork exemplifies their flexibility of curating their own delicious pieces. Overall the menu offers a wide range of choices from dimsum, noodles, seafood, and milk tea.

Personally, everything I tried in this rendezvous of Looloo was delightful. What stood out is their focus on providing bolder flavors. Even their Fried Rice was amazing by itself.

Our team also shared a healthy bowl of Stir Fry Broccoli, classic Hakaw, Spicy Spareribs and quite a novelty, Nutella Dumpling.

If you haven't tried any of the more than 10 Shilin branches, I suggest you give them a visit. The price points are affordable, given the quality of food they serve here.

Shi Lin has always been my go-to place whenever I'm at The Podium and craving for dim sum. Recently, I have been invited for a looloo rendezvoos at their branch in the new Podium mall. Even before, it was #AlwaysDelicious.

Shi Lin is located on the third floor of The Podium mall in Mandaluyong City. Shi Lin is a known place in Taiwan which has a night market that serves different and delectable street food. The restaurant's name was inspired by that place which serves the same cuisine.

Here are the dishes that we had:

> Spicy Spare Ribs. It was good, I barely noticed the spice, though.

> Chinese Pepper Shrimp. I like the coating of the shrimp and I enjoyed it, though I only had one because I was dining with chopsticks and I didn't like the hassle.

> Xiao Long Bao Original. I love Shi Lin's original xlb. The serving is quite a lot for the price, too, which is a good deal.

> Hakaw. Shrimp dumplings. Another one of my all-time favorite type of dim sum. Shi Lin's hakaw did not disappoint. The shrimp was large enough for the hakaw.

>Braised Beef Noodles. This was my favorite dish for the night. The soup was on the sweet side and rich in flavor, beef was tender, the noodles were cooked just right. I had a bunch of rounds for this dish.

>String Beans with Minced Pork. This dish was my third top choice and personally, I'm surprised that the vegetables made the cut. There's also a hint of sweetness on this dish. I guess that's why I liked it a lot.

>Fried Rice with Shrimp, Pork, and Egg. Yang Chow is my favorite type of fried rice and this is my second top choice among what we had. I'm glad that there is a generous amount of shrimp in this dish.

>Stir Fry Broccoli. Fresh and healthy.

>Nutella Dumpling. Best eaten while it's hot. Once you break the wrapper, melted Nutella oozes out. It's a nice innovation, I must say.

>Taiwan Milk Tea. Traditional tea with milk. You may ask for some sugar syrup if you want to sweeten it up a bit.

Shi Lin has been around for quite a while but I've only visited twice. First time was at the Binondo branch, probably a couple of years ago. I liked their food but I didn't have the chance to visit a more convenient branch until last week's #looloorendezvoos, a sponsored eat up exclusively for looloo reviewers.

These are some of the dishes served to us. Flagged are my favorites.

| Braised Beef Noodle Soup
If you like your noodle soup a little sweet, go for this.

String Beans with Minced Pork

Spicy Spareribs

| Xiao Long Bao
There's so many restaurants serving XLB but this one is the most underrated for me.

Stirfry Broccoli

| Chinese Pepper Shrimp
This one's one of their new dishes and I'm surprised of the generous serving size given an order is about less than PhP500. Tasted good!

| Choco Nutella Dumplings (Php 165 for 6 pieces)
Loved it the first time, love it still. Not too sweet, not too messy, not too sticky.

Thanks looloo and Shi Lin! I will be back for sure!

Lately I have been constantly craving for XLB and I was really excited they have it on their menu. I was so happy when I got invited for a Looloo Rendezvoos. Here are the other dishes we got to try:

Xiao Long Bao (10 pieces / Php 285)
Not 4, not 6 but 10 pieces of Xiao Long Bao. Take me to XLB heave and it was light was steamed to perfection.

Hakaw (4 pieces / Php 155)
They used huge shrimps to make their hakaw. Despite its simplicity, I like how succulent it was.

String Beans with Minced Pork (Php 215)
A simple dish of pork and string beans that is one of my top favorite dishes that evening. It was packed with flavors. Not a boring dish for sure for it was salty and a little spicy. I love it.

Stirfry Broccoli (Php 165)
Lightly stirred fried broccoli garnished with toasted garlic bits. Could use a little more flavor or seasoning but I still appreciate how fresh it was.

Braised Beef Noodle Soup (Php 310)
Good for sharing and with the right hint of spice this dish certainly stood out. Tender beef pieces on top of spicy soup and noodles.

Spicy Spareribs (Php 390)
It was ok, your run of the mile fried spareribs. I only had one piece and just my luck it was mostly bone.

Fried Rice with Shrimp, Pork and Egg (Php 160)
I’m a fan of mixed rice more than plain rice. This one can already be a meal on its own. Balanced flavors even though it had a lot of ingredients in it.

Pepper Shrimps (Php 475)
Shi Lin's newest addition to their menu. Deep fried shrimp with a hint of spicy on topped of shoestring potatoes. You can eat the whole thing as per the chef. I didn't eat the head though just the tail.

Choco Nutella Dumplings (6 pieces, Php 165)
Eat it while its hot. Pop it in your mouth and enjoy the warm Nutella.

I would definitely go back for its XLB, String Beans with Minced Pork and fried rice. I already have set orders in mind like 10 pcs XLB and plain rice or String Beans with any of their fried rice. Their food were fairly affordable and good for sharing too or for those with big appetite.

I've been craving for dumplings recently so sobrang sakto ng timing ng Shi Lin looloo rendezvoos last night! Haha! Thanks Roegan T for the invite 128516

Shi Lin is actually named after the Shilin Night Market in Taiwan (seriously one of the best places in Taipei kung matakaw ka). You'll find their popular Xiao Long Bao on the menu, along with other dumplings, noodles, and other dishes you'll commonly associate to Taiwanese cuisine.

Here's what we had:

| XIAO LONG BAO (ORIGINAL, 10 PCS) - I love, love Xiao Long Bao. I can seriously eat a basket or two on my own. What I like most about Shi Lin's XLB is that it doesn't give me the umay feeling after, unlike the XLB in other restos. Really yummy!

| HAKAW - I did not expect the immediate kick of spice that you'll get once you bite into it. Thankfully the spice level is just right since I typically dislike spicy food

| BRAISED BEEF NOODLES - I didn't get to taste this one but the other reviewers seem to like it

| STRING BEANS WITH MINCED PORK - I really liked this one since I favor dishes like this. Really flavorful, not too oily, and no umay feeling after eating it!

| STIRFRY BROCCOLI - I like broccoli by default and I found this to be okay.

| CHINESE PEPPER SHRIMP - I'm one of those people with enough patience when it comes to taking off the shells of shrimps. This is one of my favorites last night, though, guys, I really don't think I ate 7!!! Mga 4 lang! 128517

| SPICY SPARE RIBS - This was only okay for me. Wished it was more tender

| FRIED RICE WITH SHRIMP, PORK, AND EGG - This was also okay for me since I'm not really a fan of fried rice.

| NUTELLA DUMPLINGS - AHHHHHHHHH THIS! Really enjoyed this one. The ratio of the filling to the wrapper was just right and it's best eaten hot. Yup, I think I can eat an entire basket of this!

Service-wise, the staff was really attentive, prompt, and courteous!

Will definitely visit a Shi Lin branch in the near future! Had fun in this rendezvoos and it was great seeing everyone again! 128516

I was invited for another Looloo Rendezvoos at Shi Lin The Podium branch. Shi Lin is a casual restaurant that offers comforting and delicious Taiwanese cuisine like the Xiao Long Bao. Actually, the name of the restaurant Shi Lin was derived from the famous Shi Lin market of Taiwan.

What to expect?

The restaurant has a modern intake that jive to the mall’s interior set-up. It has an outside view of The Ortigas Center - SM Megamall side.

There’s an open kitchen, where you can see how Shi Lin’s chef prepare the Xiao Long Bao, dumplings and other dimsum.

What to order?

You must try their version of Xiao Long Bao, dimsum and some noodles.

Aside from the mentioned dishes, you might want to try The Chef’s Recommendation - Chinese Pepper Shrimp and Crispy Sweet and Sour Pork.

My personal favorites were String Beans with Minced Pork, Braised Beef Noodles Soup and the Xiao Long Bao, best paired with Iced Taiwan Milk Tea. Not to mentioned, the Choco Nutella Dumpling was a good sweet ending.

Overall, I had a great time at Shi Lin with all the delicious food with generous amount of servings and reasonable prices. The management accommodated us well and provided assistance and good service during our dinner.

Thank you Shi Lin for having us.

Thank you Roegan T and Looloo crew for the invite.

Shi Lin is a district in Taipei where a lot of expatriates and foreign lives and also home of the famous Taiwan night market.

Here in Manila Shi Lin is synonymous to nice Xiao Long Bao , I've discovered this restaurant years ago in their Alabang branch and my very first restaurant to review.

Classic and new dishes were served for this looloo event.

Xiao Long Bao -still one of the best that I've tasted here in the country in my humble opinion, nice flavor on both the meat filling and broth.

Hakaw -hefty shrimp filling, nice chunky bite and you can feel the freshness and the quality of the shrimp used. The delicate skin of the dumpling was well cooked and structured.

Spicy Spareribs -deep fried spareribs on a bed of veggies ,typical yet still good.

Pepper Shrimps -I became an instant fan of this dish, adequate measure of spices to give that nice flavor, crispy bedding of fine potato strings and pleasant subtle peppery flavor of the dried chillies.Amazed on how they made the skin edible ,nice crunch and very convenient to eat.A big plus I might say, will come back for this again next time.

String Beans with minced pork- crowd favorite, simple yet flavoursome ,I like the notes of spices, will undeniably excite anybody's palate .

Fried Rice w/ pork, shrimp and egg - spot on ,well balanced taste, not oily nor dull, the freshness of the shrimp elevated the level the rice dish a notch higher.

Stir fry Broccoli light flavor , merits on how they did this without overcooking the veggies.

Braised Beef Noodle Soup- the texture of the noodles were very good, beef brisket tender and tasty, broth was comforting and I love the familiar East Asian flavor infused into it.

Nutella Dumplings(dessert) I like how they make it into small pieces, just pop it into your mouth and an explosion of bitter sweet goodness of the chocolate will delight you.

Shi Lin may not be overrated nor hyped in terms of their Xiao Long Bao and other Taiwanese style dishes nonetheless it still gives their competitors a run for their money.Through the years I've been eating in this restaurant yet it's still consistent or I might say it's still improving.

Thanks Looloo Roegan T and Shi Lin for the good food and splendid dinner.

My first visit to Shi Lin’s branch in the new wing of Podium was more special because it’s a looloo rendezvoos. Thanks to Roegan T!!

The generous team of Shi Lin served us the following items for the rendezvoos:

🔹 Braised Beef Noodle Soup (Php 310)
Slightly spicy but still good

🔹 String Beans with Minced Pork (Php 215)
One of my new favorites!! So simple yet the flavor is rich and non-cloying. I am not a fan of spicy food but the spiciness of this dish was something I can really tolerate. I think this is the dish I ate the most! Haha. Goes really well with any rice dish.

🔹 Fried Rice with Shrimp, Pork and Egg (Php 160)
I have loved Shi Lin’s fried rice before and I still love it now.

🔹 Spicy Spareribs (Php 390)
Pretty typical and ordinary spareribs for me.

🔹 Xiao Long Bao (Php 285 for 10 pieces)
One of their specialties, it was yummy and may be at par/better than other XLBs in the metro.

🔹 Hakaw (Php 155 for 4 pieces)
I liked how their Hakaw was plump and simple. They used big shrimps so value for money for this dish is high/justified.

🔹 Stirfry Broccoli (Php 165)
Nothing special for this dish but I liked how it helped me took a break from the rich flavors of the many dishes I tried.

🔹 Choco Nutella Dumplings (Php 165 for 6 pieces)
These dumplings are the epitome of the quote - “good things come in small packages”. The dumplings were so cute and small but once you eat it, the Choco Nutella filling will burst inside your mouth.

🔹 Pepper Shrimps? (Php 475)
This is one of their latest additions to their menu. It was introduced just this year. The shrimps were delicious and full of flavor. According to the Shi Lin team, their chef is encouraging the people to eat it with the skin because it’ll complete the whole experience.

🔹 Iced Taiwan Milk Tea (Php 130)
Their version of milk tea was plain and dull. I think it lacked the creaminess of the Taiwan milk tea that I know.

Thanks to this looloo rendezvoos I discovered new dishes to try in Shi Lin. More food choices for my weekday lunch! Yay!

It will never be complete if there is no Chinese restaurant in the mall. Shi Lin is one of the 13 reasons why you should go back and have a feast at The Podium Mall. The place is so casual with magnificent view of Ortigas Center via the glass window of the restaurant. I had some dimsum paired with hot tea during the crawl.

127861Xiao Long Bao - 1108811088110881108811088️ 5/5

Definitely, a worth coming back place. The restaurant served delicious dimsums at a very reasonable price.

Yeesss! Finally, I got to try Shi Lin’s version of Xiao Long Bao dumplings! I got the 6 piece set and finished it all by myself. The dumplings were tasteful and the same time, sinful. It had a very rich flavor and you can immediately taste the “fat” in it. I also ordered their Fried Rice with Shredded Pork and Egg. The serving is good enough for 2-3 people to share. The taste was just okay. You can barely taste the pork and egg in it.

I told you I like Chinese food 128522.
They used to have a branch in BGC right across the office and I would really take time to go there and have a mini me time for lunch!
I like their chilli oil soaked dumplings and soup! They're very kind and accommodating they always oblige when I ask for extra clear soup. I also always eat the peanut sauce noodles. It's just noodles and the sauce so it's best to pair it with something else.
They are not very expensive so people on a budget can enjoy them too and explore the different kinds of food they offer. They have good xiao long bao! Meals are prepped as you order and you can see through the glass walled kitchen.

Early dinner with office mates...

We had quite a few dishes. Here goes:
Xiao long bao: my first time. Like
Crispy salt and pepper squid: was good
Spicy fried chicken: ok
Fried rice with chicken chop and egg: good
Fried rice with pork chop and egg: ok

It was early, not too many people were eating at the resto so service was attentive. Good

It was ok, but because there are a lot of choices at Podium, it may be a while before I come back.

It's not even the end of the week, and yet my boyfriend and I were exhausted with work already. That just made us shift into Patay Gutom mode. We were really craving for Taiwanese food. Hence, we decided to go to Shilin (and we ordered A LOT!).128055

11088110881108811088️Xiao Long Bao - of course we had to order this. We just got the 6 pieces since we wanted to order the spicy wontons. Their XLB were still good, but the wrapper for me was thicker than Din Tai Fung's. I liked DTF's better, but my boyfriend liked Shilin's version more.

110881108811088️Spicy Vegetables and Pork Wonton - their version of the spicy wonton was good, as well. It was still not very spicy for me, but the sauce was really yummy. I could taste a blend of chili garlic and some tomatoes on the sauce. As for the wanton, it was kind of dry and bland-tasting if not for the chili sauce.

1108811088110881108811088️Spicy Jellyfish - this is a really great appetizer. This time, the jellyfish was cut into bigger pieces, which we appreciated. The sauce it was soaked in was sweetish and slightly spicy, but perfectly complemented the jellyfish.

11088110881108811088️ Noodles with Spicy Sesame and Peanut Sauce - I almost never go to Shilin without ordering this. This is my favorite dish. Their version has a thicker and more flavorful sauce than DTF's. Minus one star because the noodles were not as al dente as I would've liked.

11088110881108811088️ Crispy Salt and Pepper Chicken with Chili - a very satisfying dish, the spices of the Chicken were amazingly flavorful. I guess this is a slightly healthier version of fhe Salt and Pepper Spareribs. Only thing was some parts of the chicken were dry.

Shilin has always been a place of comfort for us, as the food has always been consistently good and satisfying.

Accompanied my mom, sister and tita for late lunch. I already had lunch and was abstaining from meat because of the Lenten season so I didn't try all of the dishes.

On the table
🔹Xiao Long Bao
🔹Japanese Cucumber - crunchy and it was really sour. Seems like it was soaked in vinegar for a long time
🔹Spinach - garlicky but some pieces were bitter
🔹String Beans w/ Minced Pork - veggies were tasty even if I brushed off the pork. The fam enjoyed this.
🔹Fried Rice w/ Chicken Chop and Egg - the rice was a bit oily and lacked flavor. The fam said even the chicken didn't taste like it used to. When we had it checked, they insisted that it really tasted like that. We requested for salt or pepper or any seasoning and they returned the dish to us w/ more seasoning on top. We told them twice that we wanted the seasoning on the side so we can put as much or as little as we wanted. They didn't listen. Oh well...
🔹Passion Berry Iced Tea

We noticed that the servers weren't as attentive and as smiley as before. Extra effort to call their attention and when we were talking to them, it didn't feel like they were listening. We had to request for utensils 3 times from different people. We noticed also that they changed their uniforms, maybe they changed their staff thus the change in service.
