Having lived in Bangkok for over a year makes me miss the neighborhood restos there that actually serve the best Thai food. Smile Elephant comes so close to this type of restaurants in Bangkok. Located in the neighborhood of Kapitolyo, it even sits next to a carwash and an LTO emission testing lot. Nothing fancy to attract you to the looks of this resto but wait till you try their authentic Thai dishes prepared by the Thai owner and chef. It really makes me feel like I'm back in the streets of Bangkok when I visit this place.

Commendable are dishes like tom yum goong (spicy sour seafood soup), pad thai noodles, pineapple rice, kaylan veges with crispy pork, spicy chicken with cashew nuts, catfish salad, etc. Do try their lemongrass tea and Thai milk tea, too which are so refreshing. One other thing I also love about this resto is their free plate of glazed peanuts with sesame seeds which they serve as appetizer while you wait for your food to be served. They will be gracious to refill should you ask for more. All the servings are also good for sharing between 3-4 people and prices are so reasonable, too!

Ka pun kah (thank you in Thai) Smile Elephant! Till next visit!

Hole in the wall thai place in Kapitolyo. Food was ok. Servings big and the price reasonable. I liked the thai iced tea very refreshing just make sure to request for less condensed milk. The catfish salad would have been better if they added more catfish and dressing. The lettuce drowned our the flavor of the sweet spicy dressing. The thai fried rice was actually good because of the meat and the veggies added. Chicken pandan was like any other that is served in other restos just average and the spicy squid was like eating breaded squid balls. Overall experience so-so.

Smile Elephant was really nice. I really liked their Pad Thai noodles (top left) -something I didn't expect since I'm a picky eater. It tasted soo good, I had several servings. As well as the Thai Garlic Spareribs (bottom right), they were delicious. I loved how the meat was so soft and the garlic didn't taste too overpowering. Everything was really good, actually. But those are just my top two faves 9786️ Service was good as well, and the prices were reasonable. I'd definitely go back. 128076🏽

The little Asian girl in me was jumping for joy when the parents decided on Smile Elephant for lunch today. I love Thai food because there are so many different flavors to keep your taste buds entertained! 128516

Smile Elephant may be a tiny restaurant but it's got a lot of dishes to offer. We went a little cray and ordered a ton of stuff from their menu: a big bowl of Tom Yum Soup, 2 plates of Pad Thai, a platter of Pineapple Fried Rice, the Pandan Chicken, the Garlic Spareribs, and the Chicken Rolls. What a mouthful. 128557

The winners for me were the Tom Yum Soup (so spicy!!!) and the Garlic Spareribs (so tender and juicy!!!) But really, everything tasted great. We left with very happy tummies. Hats off to the Thai chef responsible for all the delicious food here! 128076128076128076

I'm loving Smile Elephant's Chicken Lemongrass , Bangkok Fried Rice, and Tom Kha Gai (Chicken Coconut Milk Soup).

Smile Elephant is one of Kapitolyo's hole-in-the-wall places that specializes in Thai cuisine. I think they still deliver delicious and affordable Thai dishes prepared by a Thai Chef.

The Chicken Lemongrass easily made me forget my fondness for Chicken Pandan. The Chicken Lemongrass , albeit plated ordinarily which accounts for its being "unphotogenic" , brings more flavor to a Thai chicken dish. The boneless chicken meat , cut into bite size pieces, wrapped in lemongrass, nicely seasoned, battered, and deep fried. I'm loving the crunchy morsels, with the meat still remaining tender. The lemongrass added a nice lemony-gingery kick to the dish. Even if deep fried, the dish wasn't oily. Yummy with the sweet chili sauce ( price 185).

The Bangkok Fried Rice can easily be a meal in itself. Stir fried rice, seasoned with sweet Thai soy sauce and spices, with chopped sweet sausage, scrambled egg bits, and chopped leeks. It perfectly paired with the Chicken Lemongrass. A serving is good for 2-3 healthy appetites (price 180).

I loved the Tom Kha Gai. The lightly creamy-lightly sour-lightly sweet chicken soup was delicious and hearty with a slight spicy kick (price 240).

These dishes were my first tries. Aside from these, their Stir Fried Squid with Salted Egg , Fish Fillet with Mango Sauce, Tom Yum, Seafood Laksa, Phad Thai, and Prawn in Tamarind Sauce are still my favorites.

Smile Elephant still comes highly recommended to foodies who enjoy Thai food without emptying the wallet.

Cannot find the photo of the pad thai 128557

This place is quaint and it's conveniently beside an emission testing center. Okay, maybe not the best match but the place is encapsulated in glass doors and panels so no need to worry about smelling the CO2 emissions while dining.

The menu isn't as much as SOMS but this place offers enough to satisfy your Thai food cravings! I got the chicken pad thai for my bf cos he was really hungry and I was just on my way to school.

So the pad thai was enough for 3 mes. But only 1-2 guys with a lot of appetite. The pad thai was flavorful and the noodles were silky as you would expect in all pad thai dishes. The chicken was a bit dry but with the hefty serving of every ingredient and the bursting of flavors in your mouth, it was certainly something to like and to come back for! 128513

I also heard that the chef is really Thai so maybe that could add to the authenticity of the food 128512

Servings are big. Price is right. Authentic tasting since the cook and owner is a Thailander! The food looked so good, we forgot about taking photos! 9786

I'm both happy and sad with the booming restaurant scene in Kapitolyo. Happy that I'm seeing all of these small businesses flourish, but sad that I don't get to eat often because my fav places are always full (Mad Marks, Three Sisters, Silantro, Rub, etc.)

Which led us to trying new spots, and found Smile Elephant. Quirky name for a Thai restaurant, was surprised to see it empty during lunch time.

Ordered Bangkok fried rice (P180), Garlic butter prawns (P285), Broccoli seafood in XO sauce ((P195)

Serving size is good for 2-3, and the food was great! The fried rice wasn't oily and was savory. The garlic prawns were a bit pricey for me but was really good. And the broccoli seafood was a house specialty and did not disappoint.

People should try this place out, reasonable prices and great food. Perfect combination for me.

I was excited to try this place, because I like how Thai food is cooked in the Philippines (sweet but doesn't lose on the yummy Thai flavors). Anyway, I was kind of disappointed with Smile Elephant.

Ordered:
- Pad Thai: nothing great.
- Penang Curry: dry and bland.
- Thai iced tea: pretty good.

Anyway, I don't think I'll be coming back here. Id rather eat at Soms for yummy and affordable Thai food.
