A landmark hotel not just in Manila but our country. When President Obama visited for Asean, he stayed here. I got a chance to sleep here one time when am only usually either dining in or visiting events.

The rooms are rather old and it comes with a smell too. I think they need a revamp to keep up with new hotels in the same area like Okada, Solaire and City of Dreams.

They also charged us Php 120 for a picture of water. They could have waived that, right?

Overnight stay for a staycation. The room was spacious as well as the bathroom. Room was a bit dark and has seen better days. The bed was comfortable and sheets were clean.

Service at the Spiral was 128076🏻. They were very attentive and accommodating. The front office is another thing. The attendant that assisted us was rude and wasnt helpful at all. It took a long time to check us in and much longer during checkout because of the queue buildup.

I didnt like the weekend bbq buffet.

I liked their breakfast buffet at the spiral.

100th review for looloo so it's quite ~special~; this review will be about Sofitel! :)

Honestly, we took so much photos that I had a hard time choosing what to include on this review. 128517128514

Anyway.

Since the parents are Accor Plus members, every year, we get to have a Sofitel staycation.

Checking in
We had no trouble checking in, in fact, there were no lines so the check in process was very fast. We were given free welcome drinks while we waited. Didn't try it though as it was a fruit (mixture of 2 kinds, forgot what fruit lol) drink and I more often than not shy away from fruits lol.
There's actually a separate check-in counter for Accor Plus members, but again, we were already there and my mom didn't want to go there anymore so we didn't get to try this lol.

Room
It's definitely a room with a view! This is actually our first time to have such a good view of the pool and bay, that my mom and I actually lingered around the balcony way more than usual as we snapped photo after photo haha. The bed in our room was king sized, and it was really comfy too. Yes, there's no doubt that we had a good night's sleep, and come morning I actually did not want to get up. 128514 Also, just input your room number and surname to avail their wifi! Aaah, Sofitel has one of the fastest wifis ever (in my humble opinion), and that's one of my fave things about it.

Pool Area
When we went, there didn't seem to be that much guests sp the pool area was, I think, more quiet than usual. There were slides and also a kiddie area. My mom and I love the breeze that goes around this place. Hehe, we actually brought swimsuits with us but laziness won over and we didn't swim. 128517 Anyway, our room came with complimentary welcome drink for two (you can choose to have soda, glass of wine, beer, coffee or tea), and my parents were the one to avail it as I opted to stay in the room. Free and fast wifi does that to me, I become a hermit lol. They also have big chess pieces here that's really fun to take photos of.

Bay Area
How is that different from the pool area, idk, but my mom and I enjoyed the place so much I think it deserves its own section! Haha, this place has a great view of Manila Bay. They also have a lot of places you can sit on - like swinging chairs, pillows and stuff. There's no question that I giddily rolled around a pillow lol. Wifi also reaches this place - anyway, in public areas its complimentary and free, no need to have a room no. or anything. :) Also, you can actually order from Sunset Bar and enjoy a drink or 2 (or maybe even munch on a snack lol), while you are surrounded by nature and enjoying the view of Manila Bay.

Checking Out
Checking out was easy too, although it was my mom that did this and I just waited for her in the car lol.

You can also have your car ticket validated (you have to so this every time you go out), and you won't need to pay any parking fee. However, if you use their valet services, you still have to pay for that even if you are checked in. :)

We didn't pay for anything as our stay was complimentary, hehe. Still, as we were finding a date, some dates (esp. weekends) you have to pay a small fee for, so I suggest that
you choose a weekday -just a heads up if you are an Accor Plus member as well. =))

Scratch that, we actually ate at the breakfast buffet so in the end we did pay for that as breakfast was not included in our complimentary stay. Till our next staycation (altho we do always make tambay here gahaha 128514)!

We used another of the free night that came with the membership for Accor Plus and this time we got 2 beds, but they were side by side so eventually we just stuck them together.

We enjoyed using the gym and the service was really good from check in to check out. It was a good night's stay. Too bad that the complimentary night doesn't come with a free breakfast. 128533

I got to stay in Sofitel Philippine Plaze for a night in my most recent trip home and it was indeed "magnifique"! 128568 This staycation was what I really needed to unwind from a series of weeks with no days off from work.

Of course getting there from Quezon City was no easy feat. To think I already came from BGC, which was a tad nearer the place but I still went through horrendous Manila bumper to bumper traffic. But an overnight stay was definitely worth the pre-arrival stress. 128569

We arrived in the hotel about 5:00 PM already, way past the standard check-in time so I was not worried of my room still being cleaned. I was so glad to come and go through a very fast check-in process. We got our keys and we went straight to the room. I got a room on the top floor with a pool view and it was just lovely! 128571

The view from our room was breathtaking! Enough to make me want to just stay there and not go out anymore. But then again, J and I had long planned to go on a mini food crawl / date night in SMaison, so we eventually had to leave. But we just got a glimpse of the sunset just on time, and the glistening Manila bay waters were reflecting the wonderful colors of the sky. It was priceless! 128568

The bed was amazing! Undoubtedly a Simmons bed, it was as relaxing as it looked like. I loved the pillows too! And their bathroom amenities are to die for! They smell so good and feel so good too! There was no tub though, but the shower was great. 128077🏼

The next day we got to dine in Spiral for breakfast and I'll write about that separately. After pigging out, we went for a dip in the pool. It looked huge from our room but it turned to be just right. Their waters were cold even for such a hot day. 128569 We tried both waterslides. 128569 They were both fast with different curves, and I actually thought I was gonna fall outside on both. 128576 Scary but fun, only it's a one time thing for me. 128569

All in all, it was such an amazing experience! I must say, this place is very well maintained for a dated hotel. I'd surely come back if I'm able to. 128571

FYI: Got this overnight stay as a gift from a friend that's affiliated with the hotel, but I'm writing this five star review out of genuine enjoyment and not as a favor. 128568

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila is under the Accor Plus group and once you sign up for the membership card, it comes with a complimentary stay at any Accor Plus hotel – as long as there's an available room. So make sure to book months before the actual stay and also ensure that your planned date of check in is before the one-year membership expiration.

The booking of the complimentary stay is through the Accor Plus website and cannot be done through the hotel. The website is pretty user-friendly so it was really quite easy to book. Sadly, the complimentary stay does not include a buffet breakfast at the hotel. 128532128546

Fast forward to the day of our stay...

I lined up in the regular check-in counter and when one of the hotel staff started to assist us, I mentioned to her that we had the Accor Plus card and she directed us to the Accor Plus VIP lounge located to the right of the main lobby entrance. There was no line at first, but after me, other guests started to arrive.

One thing to note when using the complimentary stay, the owner of the card should sign a form and provide a valid government ID. In our case, the card was my dad's and he told us to use the free night. Even if he isn't the one staying, he needs to be the one to sign. They allow the signature and ID to be provided at a later time that the check in but it has to be on the same day (so before the clock strikes 12).

The check in process was pretty fast. They also provided a welcome drink for us. It was quite refreshing since it was so hot out! They also gave us a coupon for free 2 drinks at Le Bar (more on that later).

Our room was on the third floor and it was located at the very end of the hall. 128514 My sister has a theory that hotels put guests who use the complimentary stay at the end of the hall. We had a similar experience at a different hotel before. 128514

128682ROOM
The room was big and had a king size bed. It was spacious enough for a small coffee table as well as a desk at the corner. It also had a huge flat screen TV (which we didn't use at all 128517). The bathroom was quite small. It had just enough space for the door to open inwards and enough space for maybe 2 people to squeeze by the sink and mirror. The shower area though was quite spacious.

What I loved most about the room was the balcony and the view that came with it! Despite being located at the very end of the hall, it was a good location because it was on the side of the hotel facing the pool and the bay area. 128525 It was nice to just stand there and look over the pool area because the breeze from the sea was so cool.

128703 The shower!!! The water pressure!! 128077🏼 Also, be careful with the hot water, it can be really hot! 128514

127946🏻 POOL
They allow up to 4 guests per room to use the pool. Upon entering, the attendant will ask for your room number and give everyone who will be using the pool a water proof band. The band is similar to the bands used in hospitals for patients. It has to be cut to be taken off so it can't be shared to others.

The pool's deepest is at 8 feet if I'm not mistaken. But there are shallow parts which is good for kids. They also have recreational equipments in the shallow area for the kids. There are 2 slides as well. If you're looking for a pool to swim laps, then their pool might not be the best choice since it's so irregularly shaped. But there is a wide enough area.

We also liked how they designed the side of the pool to have a curved like seating area. It's in the pool and it's designed in a way that you can just sit there and chill.

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ GYM: SO FIT
I wasn't able to use the gym but my 2 sisters did. I also dropped by to see what equipments they had and it seemed like a really nice gym. They also had a scale which can measure your weight, body fat% and muscle mass in different parts of your body. It also tells you your "body age". 128517 Dare to find out? Hahaha!

127863LE BAR
So earlier, I mentioned we got two free drinks at Le Bar. You can claim it anytime within the duration of your stay. I claimed it the following morning. The free drinks, usually, is a choice between red or white wine. They have a wine for the day for both so you just have to choose which one. But since it was morning, and waaaaay too early for wine, they said we can get coffee. 9749️ They also gave us cookies to go with the coffee. 127850128525

For check out, it was really fast!! I just headed back to the Accor Plus lounge, gave the room cards, and it was done in less than 5 minutes! 128077🏼

Overall, it was pretty great stay. Wish we could have had dinner and breakfast in the hotel though, but of course, it is pricey to dine at Spiral. 128517 Next time, when there's a special occasion. 128541

Sofitel offers a free complimentary overnight stay when you purchase their card. There are many other benefits that come with it (i.e. Discount when dining at spiral, coupons, etc.) Be sure to book your free night at least 3 months before your actual stay because they run out of the rooms fast. Anyway, the free overnight stay does not come with a free breakfast buffet, sadly 128532 But you can use their amenities like their pool 127946🏻 and gym πŸ‹πŸΌ.

ROOMS 128164
Our room was located at the END of the hall. I think all free rooms are like that because the last time we used our complimentary overnight stay at Manila Hotel, it was also located at the end of the hall. 128514 Anyhow, the room was quite spacious. It's for two people but you can fit 3 people on the bed (we were 4 tho and we all somehow managed to squeeze ourselves in 128517). The room had a giant flat screen TV, a big table for you to work/ study, two chairs with a coffee table, refrigerator, and a closet that had bathrobes, hotel slippers, and iron (for clothes) inside. The color scheme was on the monochromatic side (which I love). It was clean, simple, and relaxing 128524 The bathroom only had a shower (no bath tubs) and the other usual items (sink counter and toilet). The great thing about our room was that we had a great view of the pool 128525128525 Also, I love how big the balcony was because it occupied the whole side of our room. When you open the curtains, the room instantly brightens up! 9728️

POOL 127946🏻
When you enter the pool area, the pool attendant would attach a bracelet on your wrist and provide towels. I think those who are not checked in have to pay to swim.
The pool had a unique shape to it. If I had to compare it to something, it would be a customized donut. The center of the pool was land wherein there were couches and tables for people to chill. I liked how the edges of the pool had a chair like form that you can just sink into and chill 128524127865

GYM - So Fit πŸ‹πŸΌ
I looooved their gym! Well, it wasn't complete but enough for you to achieve a good workout. They had the standard basic equipment plus kinesis. They also have a separate room with workout balls and a few boxing equipment. At first, we didn't know how to the kinesis them but the staff (he's the one on the photo with the so fit background) there assisted us for free! He was so kind and generous to have given us leg and abdominal workouts. He even pushed us to finish everything. We also got to measure our weight, body muscles and fat percentage, and body age there (but I won't be discussing the results because it would just be embarrassing 128557128514). Well, I'm sure my body would be aching tomorrow because it's been a while since I got to workout (due to my busy work schedule 128553128548). But no regrets because we all need a healthy body to stay and feel alive. No pain, no gain 128170🏼

The overall experience was great. I wouldn't complain too much since it is free after all 128077🏻 But if you would compare it to other hotels, their rooms are not that hi-tech since Sofitel has been around for quite sometime already. It would be hard for them to change the layouts with just renovations. But for me, the most important thing is the service they provide and Sofitel has lived up to it127775

Despite the rise of many new hotels and modern interiors, I have always loved the laid back, old school charm of Hotel Sofitel. Calm, serene and away from the city noise 128522

Waking up to the seaside view gives me a relaxing feel, I always love taking a dip by their swimming pool area or simply just hanging out at the giant beanbags facing the bay.....10084️10084️10084️

Every stay is always a welcoming experience, whether having buffet at Spiral's, catching up or nightcapping at Le Bar or the Lobby Lounge, everything spells relaxation when in Sofitel....even the spaciousness of their rooms is quite uncomparable. This classic 5 star luxury will always be on top of my list for surel 128522128077🏻10084️

WARNING: This specific review will be about Sofitel's Security Services.

Sofitel is one of my fave hotels so this is not a biased review. I have spent countless memories being there. Prom, debuts, weddings and even up to know while I already am working in the wedding industry, I usually get to go to the place. A lot of wedding preps and reception have been in Sofitel and one of the things I HATE THE MOST about this hotel is their security service.

1st thing, their guards outside the lobby or the main entrance area ARE VERY RUDE. Believe me, most of us in the wedding industry hate them. Magloload palang kami ng gamit pinapaalis na kami. Aside from that yung mga various customers nila na waiting sa mga sundo, pinapaalis na agad. Buti sana is kung yung mga guards they will let you go away na maganda yung tone ng pagsabi. But NO, bastos sila. As in naninigaw sila lalo na sa mga drivers at customers.

I've expereinced one time na may old lady na sasakay palang, she is loading her baggage wala pang 2 min pinapaalis na siya ng guard. Wag daw humarang sa daan. How rude, nagalit yung old lady and reprimanded the guard. Hindi pa tapos magload ng gamit pinapaalis na. Bawal daw matagal sa loading station. But my gosh kahit sa customers ganun sila?

Next thing: Talagang pinagkakakaitaan na nila yung shooting sa loob ng facilities nila. Before they were not like this but now if you plan to have your wedding at sofitel, every move my bayad. Shooting at the staircase will cost you P10,000. Isa yun sa mga reklamo samin ng clients, bakit daw may fee eh magsstay naman sila sa hotel?

Mababait naman yung lady staff nila sa loob and they will greet you. Pero yung mga guards nila siguro should have a proper training on manners. Sorry had to let this out cause i'm speaking in behalf of most of the wedding suppliers. We're also human and hindi kami dapat niloolook down porket hindi kami nagsstay inside the hotel. Why if maging customers nila kami in the future?

Overall, it's really a good hotel naman eh. The food is good and the facilities are very nice. Spiral is one of the nest buffet hotels in Manila. They have a good view of the Manila Sunset. Sana lang if they really want to be on top, imaximize na nila sa entrance palang.

After a lovely wedding at Manila Cathedral Basilica (and a quick run to KFC for late lunch), we headed to Sofitel Hotel for the reception.

The entourage had to be there earlier to practice their little-not-so surprise number. I got a sneak peek of the beautiful dining hall as I had to deliver R's hotshots to him.

While watching them dance, I admired the charming set up and the clever party favors--framed photos of the bride and groom with the guests from years back in school, trips, simple gatherings and milestones.

Though the food was just so-so for me, the whole program was entertaining. There was also an overflowing supply of Red and Blue labels enough for the almost a thousand guests (and Jose Mari Chan who sang for the couple). There were even several bottles left after which we enjoyed during the after party. The close friends of the bride and groom, collectively called "team lasenggos" took over the dance floor and danced till the wee hours. It was truly a great night.

Since we all had drinks, R and I opted to stay the night at Sofitel to make sure we stay safe. I wasn't able to take photos anymore as we were very tired from the long day. We simply washed up and enjoyed the plush bedsheets. We fell asleep right away.

We were so tired that we didn't even bother to wake up the next day to enjoy the complimentary breakfast at Spiral. (I know that it's such a waste but sleep was more important that time.)

Though the bathroom fixtures were a bit old and surprisingly not the top of the line brand, it still worked perfectly. The beds were comfortable and definitely energize you for the following day.

I have been to Spiral before and getting a room with a complimentary breakfast is always a good deal. 128513

It's that time of the year again and I am fortunate enough to be staying at Sofitel once more... One of the quintessential landmarks along Manila Bay, Sofitel remains an icon of old Manila charm...

Visitors are treated to five star service the moment you enter their doors, transporting you to another world. This time around, the lobby is transformed into a garden of lillies, evocative of summer... The beautiful marble floor and crystal chandeliers welcome you & you stand a little straighter and walk with a bit of a glide... I always try to quell the urge to run to the pool area and take lots of pics by the bay... I try to act like a proper and charming woman once inside the premises. But deep inside, I want to kick off my shoes and jump into the pool!128517

No other hotel provides extensive, rolling grounds for one to get lost in. Where else can you be treated to a beautiful manicured lawn, a fun playground, a life size chess set, a huge tennis court and a network of slides that end in the blue green pool?! Sofitel is the answer! And at night, when the garden is lit with twinkle lights, it becomes a haven for lovers... You can watch a romantic sunset and enjoy a scrumptious feast under the stars... I love their gorgeous spiral staircase that leads you down to the one of the best buffet restaurants in the country... Not to mention that their grand ballroom is ever elegant, full of happy memories...

The rooms may need a bit of an update, but that's just a few minor things. The important thing is that the place has great bones. You just can't beat a classic...

Plus, who wouldn't want to wake up to that magnificent view!128525

Had the chance to stay at Sofitel last February for an overnight learning conference...

I arrived at 4pm and the parking lot was full... I parked pretty far away from the hotel entrance, but it wasn't a problem.

Since there were a lot of people checking in, the hotel facilitated the process by allowing us to use the Davao Room. While waiting, we were free to eat the buffet spread that was served to the group. The food was delicious and perfect for a hungry person who was stuck in traffic. I scarfed down my food!!! After eating, it was already my turn to check in. Checking in was a breeze and I was assigned a room on the ninth floor. Small note: I had trouble connecting to the Internet using my phone (happened at another hotel too), but I appreciated that the staff really tried to help me out.

My room had twin beds pushed together, which was fine with me. I noticed that the furnishings were a bit tired... The carpet was already musty too. But the room was complete-- tub, robes, the works. The bed was super comfortable and I had fun jumping up and down on it... Their TV was a small flatscreen one, out of place in the more traditional interiors of the room... Weird that they did not have a hair dryer though... But the tub was great!!!128525 Plus, they had complete toiletries available.

Though the rooms were a bit tired, the rolling lawn, beautiful lobby, and huge outdoor pool overlooking the Manila Bay more than made up for it... And you have to appreciate that sunset, it doesn't get better than that...

Other than the view, they have many fun activities for kids and adults alike all around the hotel premises... I wanted to get a massage, but time did not permit... I loved hanging out poolside, unable to swim anymore having overslept due to the festivities from the night before. Overall, a nice and relaxing stay at this classic hotel!128077🏻

Room is spacious but very, very old and seriously in dire need of repair and interior upgrade.

The lanvin toiletries won't impress me and didn't actually as the old, smelly carpet and comforter pissed me more.

Better stick to the buffets here, I guess.

Our company held its annual national convention here last Feb 10. I'll not evaluate the venue; just the food.

Food
Breakfast - good.

Food safety alert: their burger (with sauce and cauliflower) was still raw inside. Burger patties weren't supposed to be served raw - it's ground meat and It's deadly!

Lunch - also good. No undercooked foods this time. 128522128522128522

Snack - didn't ate because I'm still full!

Service
Fair.

Cleanliness

The famous sofitel- who wouldn't know about it. Sofitel is famous for it's buffet spiral and also amazing sunset views. However, sometime it stinks because of the bay side area. Also, the guards here are very strict. They wonmt let your driver stay and wait for you for 5-10 min. Medyo bastos rin yung mga guards nila makipagusap to anyone masyadong authoritative. Cozy accommodation and good food. A bit pricy but worth it naman if you're really looking for a great staycation.

"Bonjour Mabuhay!" This is the first thing that you'll hear once you enter the lobby and when you walk across any staff. Consistent world class service every time. 128076🏼

We always hold our national conventions here at the start of the year but I never get tired of the place. It must be the view of Manila bay, or the lush and fully bed, the excellent service, the fact that Spiral is there, or ALL OF THE ABOVE.

I love how customer friendly they are and how consistent their service is. If never had trouble with any check in or check out during my stay here. Last week, they even asked me to sign the check out sheet in advance so that I don't have to brave the lines during check out at 12nn. That meant more time for me to enjoy Spiral and more time for me to sleep. That's service for you. And I value my rest so I appreciated that gesture.

I also love the fact that each staff is well trained. You can ask them anything and they all have the same answer and they're never flustered when you converse with them. 128077🏼

I always enjoy my stay here and I will never get tired of going back. 128536
