It always feels like my birthday whenever I eat here because it is a guaranteed feast! They have the best hot prawn salad! Even a simple dish like their steamed shrimp (weighed by the grams) is pretty good. You can really tell their chef is from HK because of the quality of their dishes. We always order their salt & pepper spareribs, steamed lapu-lapu, fried rice, birds best soup and noodles too.

Even though their interiors haven't changed since the 90s, that's the last thing you will notice once the food arrives because it's soooo good.

Our extended kitchen. Too lazy to cook lunch today so we bought these dishes from Spring Deer. Fish Fillet with Tofu is one of my favorites (I think I mentioned that in my last review), Seafood Hotpot is ok (my father's favorite), Hot & Sour soup is spicy good! I had to really control myself because I am on a serious diet and I just couldn't resist these dishes.

Every time I crave for suahe, I go to spring deer. They have the freshest suahe I've had. It may look like a shabby old restaurant but they haven't changed in their quality. They also serve good dimsum and duck. When I go there we have the duck two ways, one with the wrap and minced wrapped in lettuce. The price is mid range. Maybe around 1k for 2 depending if you'll have the duck or get other classic Chinese dishes.

Very good and very cheap Chinese food in QC. My favorite dishes here are 1) Tofu Cake 2) Seafood Hotpot 3) Spicy Spareribs 4) Fish and Tofu Hotpot. Other favorites of my relatives my dad's favorites--clams; steamed kingfish; seafood udon. My father-in-law's favorites--sizzling beef tenderloin; crab sotanghon. I like this place because the food here is consistent with the flavor. But don't expect to be impressed with the ambiance, the place needs renovation but the price of the food and the taste, is what keeps me and my family coming back for more. And I often see high profile people come in here. They don't mind the dirty ambiance too. It just shows how good the food is here.

Sorry, but after my last visit there's no way I'm coming back here! 128528

First of all, the service. The dishes were being served around 10-15 minutes apart, and even a refill of water took them ages. Considering the fact that we were super hungry (we waited for 35++ minutes 128566), their servers weren't very accomodating.

The dishes we ordered were extremely disappointing. Their "sesame shrimp" dish is actually a shrimp cake dish. I don't know if they can even call it that because it was 90% flour and sesame seeds and 10% shrimp. There was hardly any shrimp flavor to it. Felt like I was eating cardboard. 128553

Their cold cuts were too sweet, the roast chicken was way too oily and salty, and the Yang Chow fried rice seemed mashed(??). Softest fried rice I've ever eaten, and not in a good way. Their iced tea was too sweet, mango sago was too watery. The only "okay" dish we had was the seafood hotpot, which was edible but not spectacular.

Even their kropek was not very good. It tasted of old oil and was thin and makunat. Huhuhu.

Another factor was their ambience. Spring Deer has been around for a very long time, as evidenced by their interiors. I'm not really fussy when it comes to the interiors of restaurants but eating in Spring Deer is never really a good experience. The walls are falling apart, the place looks outdated and badly needs a renovation.

In the middle of the meal, we saw 2 huge cockroaches on the wall and even saw one underneath our table. 128563 We informed their manager but he didn't do anything about it. (During an earlier visit, we found a tiny baby cockroach in one of the glasses. 128534)

Plus, the waiters didn't seem very knowledgeable. We asked the manager what the white thing inside the mango sago was and he said "Gatas po yan", but there wasn't any milky flavor naman in the sago. It might have just been foam, not milk. 128566

Spring Deer, please do something about your interiors. And quality of food. And service. And hygiene!! 128530

Humble old place. Restaurant isn't really much to look at but the food is really good. Medium size Chinese-style beef tenderloin satisfied 12people (P420 only) then fried chicken, yangchow fried rice, shrimp balls and birthday canton. And guess what? Free dessert!! Melon sago :) good service.

This restaurant was very famous in the 80's and 90's. They havent changed their interiors. The food? Ordered the cold cuts and its was just ok. Ive tasted better in other Chinese resto. The chicken mushroom soup was good. Its a complete meal in itself but nothing fantastic. Another turn off was the presence of street kids right outside the resto. I dont know what the QC local govt is doing about that.

I try to avoid this place but I don't know why, my dad has this attachment to this place. Somehow whenever I hear or think about Spring Deer, the word dirty or unsanitary comes to my mind (see me cringe whenever he suggests we eat here).

Well tonight he won since last Christmas I did not give in to his wish to buy food from here.128513

Food: 4/5
-I was pleasantly surprised, their seafood's good. It was the first time I willingly drink Grouper (Lapu-lapu) fish soup. I never drink this (even though we have this almost everyday at home) because I can't stand the "malansa" smell. Anyway, their version isn't. We had ours two-way, the steamed with soy sauce was good too, the sauce wasn't salty.
-The crabs were really good too, a lot of meat inside and you get to choose your crab so it's really fresh (hello restaurants that pretend your crab's fresh but we can taste the difference!).
-Other dishes like fresh bamboo shells (no, not from bamboo plants), and prawn salad were tasty too)

Service: 4.5/5
-Attentive servers and we didn't have to wait long.

Ambience: 1/5
-Yeah, I'm a sucker for places with nice decors and ambience and this.. Isn't just one of those. I didn't even dare check their restroom. 128513128513

Not related: A lot of foreigners eat here too. Saw lots of koreans, middle east people, tdks, americans with their you-know-what (but no judgement!). 128522
