9962️ This church is one of the four UNESCO World Heritage Site for Baroque Churches in the Philippines. I’m surprised that when I mentioned to my Ilocano husband that I want to visit this church, he doesn’t know it!

9962️ We drove for 1.5 hours from his hometown to get here. The location and placing of the church is quite…interesting. The façade of the church is facing sideways, and there is no plaza infront, which is typical of the Spanish Plaza Complex. From the parking, you need to climb quite a stairway to reach the church. It’s built on top of a hill not only for the Catholic power to look imposing but also to serve as a lookout for invaders.

9962️ The church is formally called the Our Lady of Assumption in honor of the miraculous Apo Baket, displayed at the altar. The church is quite impressive. It’s built with bricks with huge buttresses to protect the structure from moro invaders and from earthquakes. The belltower is also separated from the main church.

9962️ Unfortunately, the interior is quite new and ironic when you look at how old the church is outside.

9962️ Near the cemetery is an old pathway leading, apparently to an old cemetery. I’m curious to see it but we are running late. Maybe next time we will take a look.
