Are you fond of good Flat Whites and/or Gibraltar coffee preps? Starbucks' Ristretto Bianco can easily fill that velvety-creamy, strong coffee craving.

Starbucks' Ristretto Bianco is an "old" coffee prep and is listed in their permanent coffee menu. I have always seen this in their listing but recently have tried it. Since I have been shying away from the usual sweet coffee preps, the Ristretto Bianco has since then been my fave go-to beverage at Starbucks.

First off, it is a far cry from the usual latte. For me, a latte is simply a milky-watery coffee prep that lacks the kick/ strength of coffee coupled with the velvety-smooth finish of the properly tempered steamed milk.

Ristretto translates to " limited" or "restricted" espresso extract. I asked their barista what was the concept behind the "controlled" extraction. I was told the first controlled extract carries the highest concentration of coffee flavors. The "crema" is maintained. Thus, bringing the strong, chocolatey-umber-golden brown coffee extraction. Over-extraction can sometimes lead to a more "acidic" and darker coffee extract attributed to some natural impurities of the beans.

The "Bianco" comes from the microfoam milk tempered correctly and poured into the Ristretto shot. The result is a silky-velvety texture. Since the proportion of the coffee is more than the milk, the flavor of the coffee dominates with the microfoam-steamed milk adding a pleasant creamy-silky taste and texture.

The temperature of this beverage is perfect. Not boiling hot but pleasantly warm thus making me immediately enjoy my favorite Starbucks cup of joe without the danger of a burnt tongue.

The Ristretto Bianco tastes and "feels"(texture in the mouth) like a good Cortado poured with perfectly textured milk. I take my cup black (no need for sugar since the milk lends a certain sweetness balance to the coffee).

While Starbucks offers options to switch the milk to non-fat or soy milk, I suggest that you stick to the original recipe. I've tried all variations. The non-fat version came out a little watery-- I guess the lack of fat in the milk did not do justice to the tempering process and didn't seem to hold that velvety finish. The soy milk variation, came out too sweet for my taste.

To my mind, Starbucks' Ristretto Bianco comes as a perfectly strong, perfectly textured cup of coffee-milk prep and is highly recommended to coffee aficionados who enjoy Flat Whites/Gibs.

This is the Starbucks of my childhood. This is the Starbucks that popped my coffee cherry. This is the Starbucks where I first tasted the Mocha Frappucino.

I remember the day clearly..someone ordered for me. They said "masarap ito jules try mo. Uso na ito ngayon, mocha frappucino!"

And this was 15 years ago and I was young and wanted to be "cool" so I said yes. Hence began my love for mocha frappucinos.

The second time I went, I ordered for myself.
Me: miss isang mocha frappucino please"
Barista: "what size?"
Me: *mentally trying to figure out what's tall and venti.. Damn you, starbucks! Bakit hindi nalang kasi small and large??*
Me: uhhh... *takes a gamble* Venti, miss.

Later on, I drowned in a venti mocha frappucino. Might have been enough to last a lifetime. That was the first and last time I have ever ordered anything in venti. I have had mocha frappucinos since but rarely now as I get older, wiser, health conscious and more "sosy" (miss isang short soy nonfat latte please). But I still fondly remember my first (and second) mocha frappucino. I just want to share that memory with the Looloo world. I remember it so clearly. I'm glad that this Starbucks is still around.

One of my favorite branches and they have the friendliest staff! Even the guard is nice. 128522 doesn't get as crowded as the promenade branch.

Expect (us) students though! 9996128540

Wake up and smell the coffee!

What's been getting me thru the day? Iced French Vanilla Latte! I just drank it like it was water and then because I liked it so much decided to review it right away, while waiting for our meeting to start. Hahaha

White Chocolate Mocha is my usual but FVL I must say is fair game. I got a tall in a grande hehe but I should've gotten a grande in a venti. Anyway, I'm actually not a coffee person or maybe it's a taste my palette has yet to acquire but thanks to the variations Starbucks make I've been more open to trying out different kinds of coffee lately.

For such a small and crowded place, it's surprisingly quiet. Because the crowd is 90% students! Hahaha 128513 i didn't mind staying doon sa long table that's full, kasi we all were minding our own business.

They have friendly baristas and guard, too.

Plus I saw Team Kramer there 128516 the kids were so adorable, and Cheska has such a timeless beauty. Haaay ganda niya 128525

(i had my usual green tea latte and corned beef pandesal).

A much needed Coffee panghimagas after the buffet at Guevarra's.

Got my usual white chocolate mocha with breve over ice. The drink was really good.

I love the place too. Perfect vibe to chill or read a book. Or simply to catch up with some friends.

Drawbacks:
- limited parking
- they close early. We were asked to leave by 1145. Why?! 128557

Got their first limited Philippine edition card. From July 29-31, 2014, load up P1500 on your new Starbucks card and get P300 free. It's Starbucks 1st year anniversary (of the card) treat to it's customers.

Coffee jelly, my fave!128077128077128077

Claimed my free grande drink from my Starbucks card while waiting for someone.

Love the chewy goodness of the coffee jelly. The sweetness level is so sweet, but I love it! The taste makes the drink special. I would definitely love to another cup of coffee jelly on my next visit.128523

Yesterday's post-window-shopping happy-snack-time was spent with the current love of my life, Starbucks' chicken fajita roll. It was better this time cause I actually ate it in Starbucks instead of my usual drill of having it to go. 10084

I had an iced americano and a chocolate toffee nut loaf to go with it.

Missed my iced coffee 128523 been having hot and warm the past months.

The chocolate loaf thing. Good for one try but too sweet for me!

Attended a children's birthday party at the next-door Chili's and it was raining cats and dogs by the time we finished. The group decided to stay here until the rain stopped.

This branch is quite small but very cozy plus it is very Pinoy with the capiz windows. Also found a few people on headphones/headsets with their huge books.

Had the Starbucks survey voucher and claimed a free tall hot mocha for the hubby and got myself a grande iced white mocha americano.

Definitely a great place to hang!

Before, I always order frappuccino and hot chocolate when I visit Starbucks. But now, I went to Starbucks to try their Black Iced Tea with 3 pumps of strawberry and raspberry syrup. It is delicious and I like it.

The place is clean, nice and quiet. The service was great because they are fast and nice to the customers.

Strawberry Belgian Waffle - I always ordered this whenever I go back to Starbucks. It kinda feels like breakfast everyday with the taste of strawberry flavored syrup.

Signature Hot Chocolate - I really love chocolates and that's why we will never going to miss ordering this drink. 128516

Black Iced Tea - with 2 pumps of Raspberry and Strawberry syrup, actually this is the recommendation of Ms. Kaye P so I'm very thankful that I got to try these because of her.

Verdict:
Place - 10/10
Price - 10/10
Environment - 10/10
Service - 10/10
Food - 10/10

Upside Down Tall Iced Asian Dolce Latte. Saves the trouble of mixing. Also limits the unfortunate chance of sipping all the dolce latte first and ending up with the kicking double espresso shots at the last end of the drink--or vice versa.

After reading Peanut's review , I just couldn't help but try the "Upside Down" version of my current favorite Starbucks beverage.

And yes, the baristas know when you say "Upside Down".

Such a long name to say when ordering. Beverage for mga "tamad to stir" ( Lol). But I'm definitely liking it.

I have read several good reviews regarding Starbucks' Asian dolce latte and thought id try it since i badly needed the caffeine. I have always ordered for espresso frap for the caffeine but i guess what makes me interested in this drink is the two espresso shots that goes with it if u order tall and three espresso shots if u order grande. I guess this would be a better alternative if ur after the caffeine.

Taste? Its pretty much the same as espresso frap for me except that it has a stronger taste of espresso, which i like :) and that it is prepared as iced and not frap :)

FINALLY!!! ♥♥♥

BTW, I didn't come here just to see if they have cool lime. It just so happens that they're the only place open this early. 128513

It's just a plus that they had my favorite, been-craving-for-so-long, drink. :)) The barista suggested I add mint syrup (Php20) and assured me that they'll change it if I didn't like it.

My thoughts: it made my refresher even more refreshing! Hihi. It doesn't alter the taste so much but the feeling after is really cool. Love it! 128521
