Sugbo Mercado was just a few steps away from the condo we're staying at here in Cebu. I love how convenient it was! 128149 Last night, my colleague and I were swamped with work to the point that we got home around 930pm with no dinner yet. (We continued working at home until 1:30am!128553) Good thing the food bazaar opens until late at night.

The place was actually big. There were lots of people but the place was not swamped. Maybe because it was only Thursday (and not the weekend yet). Btw, Sugbo Mercado in IT Park is only available on Thursdays to Saturdays.

We went around all the stalls before deciding what to get which was quite hard because it had just stopped raining 🌧 and the floor was all muddy. Anywaaaaay, on to the food:

I ordered MEE GORENG [P95] plus a stick of CHICKEN SATAY [P18]. It's actually my first time to try the mee goreng and I really liked it. It was a bit oily but I personally prefer oily noodles than dry ones. Got it in mild spicy but it was not mild at all 128514 It was quite spicy for me and I eat a LOT of spicy food. If you're not familiar, Mee Goreng is actually a fried noodle dish with meat and vegetables that is commonly seen in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Both the mee goreng and chicken satay were very flavorful. I also liked how they cooked the noodles right in front of me. That way I know that the food I ordered was not just sitting there for hours. So plus plus! ➕

(On a side note, I was actually searching for Pad Thai but couldn't find it until after I ordered Mee Goreng. Hahaha But I have no regrets. There's no harm in trying out new dishes!)

My friend ordered ribs from SURFIN RIBS 128055 for only P105. I had a taste and the ribs were very tender and flavorful. It's quite good considering the price 128077🏻 She also ordered some sort of seafood at another stall but couldn't remember the name. For a cup of rice, 2 pcs of shrimp, and a piece of mussel, P138 is way too much. It was a regret for her 128078🏻

To cool off my taste buds from the spiciness, I got the PINA COLADA 127865popsicle served in a cup of slurpee [P90] from Tipsy Pops. I got the red popsicle then my slurpee had a mixture of the blue andk red. Sorry, I can't remember the names. There was no menu available and the guy was talking way too fast for me to understand. But they were really kind. I asked if I could taste first before ordering and they agreed (although I could see the hesitation when they all looked at each other first 128517) The alcohol content was not that high so I don't think you'll get drunk from eating/ drinking this. I really liked this. The flavors can be a bit addicting too! Perfect to end my first experience at Sugbo Mercado 10084

P.S. I can recommend all those we've tried except the one we can't remember the name 128514

This place not only offers hearty dishes but is a sweet tooth haven too. You can never go wrong with any of the gelato stands or those offering baked goodies but what stands out are the mini sylvannas and the sesame seed ice cream. Unfortunately they ran out of sesame seed ice cream by the time I finished dinner so I settled for the pretty bubblegum ice cream instead. Those mini sylvannas were so delightful and It was like choosing different cake flavors but in bite size pieces and without the need for utensils. The bubblegum ice cream made me feel like I was 5 again. I almost forgot the not so appetizing looking Butterbeer (the reason I was there last Saturday) but what it lackedbi appeal made up for it in flavor. It was like eating caramel candy with just a slight hit of acidity that reminds me I wasn't 5 anymore.

My mantra after every sugbo visit: coming back next weekend!

Sorry for this one hand one click photo on a not so well lighted corner at Sugbo Mercado or is it me that got Tipsy from a few licks of this Tipsy Pops??? Did it somehow made you tipsy Angela Marie C ??? LoL They actually put on their kiosk a sign that says "Lick Moderately". For 90 php you'll get one drunken fruit flavored popsicle and dunk it on some coolers. I like the taste coz it doesnt have that "medicinal taste" that you got from a cocktail drink (i dunno if this considered a cocktail) ... This is a perfect frozen treat for that Pad Thai and Spicy Lechon belly that youll be having there. I love this place (Sugbo Mercado) coz of its wide choices of great food. The place is jam-packed most of the time and its a bit hard to find a table. I guess it would be better to go there early like before 6pm.

1108811088110881108811088 for Sugbo Mercado
11088110881108811088 for Tipsy Pops (bit overpriced for a mixed alco)

Tipsy Pops is my favorite stall in Sugbo Mercado. 128571 They make posicles with booze! That's right! They're alcoholic! And they taste damn good! Each serving has just the right mix and isn't overpowered by the liquor base, and the taste is actually quite awesome! No wonder they always have a queue in this booth! I don't remember exactly but it was about Php 90. (Hahaha got buzzed already so I forgot the price... 128569)

This place reminded me of Bancheto in Ortigas, smaller in scale but big in variety! I will name the few that I could accomodate in my (i thought was bottomless pit) stomach from various stalls:
1. Korean (in pic) bacon wrapped bean sprouts, 2 pcs the size of a corned beef can P90/2 beautifully seasoned with a teriyaki like sauce that was not too sweet (spicy optional).
2. Bacon and mushroom mac & cheese, P90 they used cheddar and parmesan (yumyumyum) plus they gave me a glass of cucumber thirst quencer while they prepped it.
3. Pad Thai, tender rice noodles just the right thiness that it didn't break, tons of rich peanut sauce and 3 jumbo shrimps, could really pass off as authentic Thai P95.
4. Tipsy Pops - Pina Colada popsicle in Seabreaze slurpee (some vodka concoction) P90 could not really taste tha alcohol but was perfect for that balmy night.

I had brought along some visitors from the US but all they were interested in was lechon and beer, in which they tried 3 types from different stalls and I was worried they would have heart attacks anytime soon. Anyhu the place is near my work so I will have plenty of oppurtunity to try the rest and they are open Wed-Sun 7pm-2am. If you bring a car good luck, as parking can be a challenge. Make sure you dress light and be always on the lookout for the elusive table or chair to dine on. :)

PS you will smell like food adterwards!

Disclaimer, I went here for 2 consecutive weekends, so you'll see my other review in a short while too.

The night market fever has finally reached Cebu, and locals are loving it. It's just so cute cause my friends who I went here with all thought it would be like a very big restaurant. Then we we got there, they realized it was like a food bazaar of some of the best up and coming restaurants of Cebu!

Food here is great. Some of my favorites are the Pad Thai from the Banana Pancake Trail kiosk. (Weird though that the waffle isn't even their signature dish.) I've eaten in Surfin' Ribs before, and their kiosk here just reminded me how much I loved their ribs! The Apple Cucumber Sago drink is so refreshing, and definitely my favorite drinks of the night.

For desserts, I highly recommend Tipsy Pops! They're spiked popsicles, and I have to say they taste amazing! It was so good, but it did give me a headache after I had it. Still I absolutely loved it! 128077🏼128077🏼128077🏼

Chill place. Similar to Makati Night Market at A. Venue Mall area. There's live entertainment. Their food are affordable and at mall price. I had Rice Kebab (P85) from Greek Taverna, a milder version of Jafar's shawarma and Melon Gulaman (P50/large) from Chef's Table. It was filling. People will really enjoy here strolling around experimenting on different dishes served from various food stalls. And there's security personnel roving around the area.

Very good choices, reasonable prices.

I had a very good paella and a giant rib for under 240 pesos. 128515
