This small sandbar has been around the area. And being in an out of Cebu, I never bothered to pause and visit the place. My local friends find and thought that it’s not worth a visit and that there are more other places in the province that is much more beautiful than Sumilon. But between hearsay and pictures, I’d go with the photos and let the explorer in me visit the place. 128521

After our Oslob whale shark encounter, we got a deal with the guide who assisted us in our whale shark encounter. He brought us over to the boat ride entrance going to Sumilon Island, about 30 minutes ride. The local government takes care of the environmental fees and maintaining the island.

Before we boarded our boat, we had to listen to a few lecture about the island. (Your attention is needed because the lady instructor will sarcastically call on you if you are not listening.) Safety precautions were mentioned such as designated places where we can swim, the places where we can only roam around. There is one resort in the island, which is the Bluewater Sumilon. There are areas in the island that are off limit to non-guests. It’s vital to listen to the one giving the information. Leaving the island can be done anytime, we just need to inform the boat company who took us on the sandbar (on the lookout for orange boats 128675‍♀️) so they can bring us back ashore.

We boarded the boat just a bit pass noon time – imagine the scorching heat! 9728 128526 The ride was only about 10 to 15 minutes. Our boat can only be boarded by 12 to 15 pax and everyone was required to wear the life vests.

We already saw the island from afar. It’s crystal blue waters was truly a remarkable asset of this small island. Since we weren’t on a time limit, we stayed in the island for about an hour or two.

The scorching heat was unbearable. 9728 But seeing the island, I can surely say it was worth the heat 127796.

We went here around February and for us, just seeing the sandbar, left us in awe 128525. But the locals and my cousins were telling me that the sandbar is much more wider and more flat during the summer season. However the sandbar looks like, it just left us breathless ♥

Aside from the sandbar, we were also fascinated by the clear blue water. It’s not deep, even though you are already far away from the shoreline. It was gradual and the water was just wonderful. 128522

Just recently, from April 10-16, 2018, Sumilon Island closed for a week, to do an island cleanup. Because of President Duterte’s closure on the island of Boracay, the local government of Sumilon, decided to take the first step to clean the island. I think that was the best decision they made. And hopefully other small islands will then follow. No one wants another island closure just because they forgot to clean up.

128205How to Get Here:
128652 Ride a bus or V-Hire Van from the Cebu South Bus Terminalin Cebu City going to Oslob. Travel time to Oslob will take about three hours. From Oslob, you will see some tour guides waiting around the area, and you can ask anyone there to take you to Sumilon Island.

128664 Rent a private van (which is what we did)

•Rates:
Ride towards the banca ride to Sumilon – Php200.00
Entrance to Sumilon Island, monitored by the LGU, which includes environmental fees, etc. – Php50.00 (regular); Senior/PWD is free entrance.

Woke up very early in the morning to catch a bus from Cebu City to Oslob, travelled for 3 hours and half and another 30 minutes boat ride to get to the island. But every inch of butt and back ache was all worth it! All I can say is that I fell inlove with this place. It's not only the beach and the beautiful oceanview that you'll get to enjoy but you can also try kayaking, snorkelling and even trekking. Just make a reservation at Sumilon Bluewater to enjoy what the island has to offer. A bit pricey but definitely worth every cent.

SURREAL.. and yes! I was so amazed in what i saw. Clear turquoise water, fine white sand and sand bar, hello Sumilon Island! The private boat going to the island costs us 1500 roundtrip for 2 (quite expensive 128514128514). We bought food and drinks for our lunch before going to the island since manong bangkero told us that we can have our lunch there. There are 2 parts of the island, the private one which the Sumilon Blue Water Island Resort is located and the Public part. In the public part there are picnic area wherein you can use their tables and chairs for free and pay restroom (forgot how much it was). We stayed there for 2 hours since we are almost experiencing sun burn 127774 but it was all worth it.

The picture above has no filter. Need I say more?

After having the whale shark watching, ask a local to rent a boat going to Sumilon Island to experience the sand bar and the turquoise water that's just knee-level. 127946🏽

You can stay here anytime you want, but make sure you have put sunblock on your skin.

Oh and they charge, Php 50 (?) for an entrance fee.
