I ate a combo set of Tendon and Udon noodle. I was so regret to go there. the rice of tendon was really low quality and I could not finish. and I think They did not wash well so I smelled the detergent from the bawl of rice. Udon noodle was over cooked and it was too soft as Japanese food. Please check your food everything from the begging....

"I hate Japanese food", said NOBODY who ever has ever tried their cuisine!

Japanese restaurants are fairly new here to Baguio City. We have Teriyaki Boy (2003) Chaya (2010), Yamashita (2014), Zushi Me (2015), and SumoSam (2013). Sorry looloo'ers, I don't consider Tokyo Tokyo and Kitaro "authentic" Japanese cuisine.

SumoSam has established itself as one of the better Japanese chain restaurants in the Philippines. Many flock to this place for it's convenience, since it's available in almost all shopping malls, and their selection of food. They offer classics such as, nigiri, sashimi, rolls, ramen and katsu, plus many others to please a hungry belly.

I always start off with their sake (salmon) sashimi. Though given that it's always fresh, sometimes their cuts lacks consistency. At times the sake is buttery, melt-in-your-mouth, at times it's not. I prefer sake toro. Sake toro are cuts near the belly. It has an even marbling that gives it a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. As shown on the photo, there is no marbling, so that goodness I speak of is nowhere to be tasted. But don't get me wrong, what I had was still delicious. 128513

After, I would go for a Dynamite roll. It's not a traditional Japanese roll. It's a roll created by the west. I love the contrast of the spiciness added to the tuna with the sweetness of the wasabi mayo, along with the crunchiness of the shrimp tempura with the softness of the spicy tuna. It's a wonderful contrasts of taste and texture.

Then I would finish with their Osuyaki Beef Roll. It's composed of thin strips of Japanese marinated beef stuffed with minced shiitake mushrooms. Though the beef is a bit tough, I enjoy the flavor and the complex flavor that the shiitake has.

SumoSam's other entrées are also. Try their grilled salmon belly, spicy tuna salad, and squid head karaage. 128513

My only dislikes of this place is that rolls are never consistent when it comes to presentation. Also, some of the items on the menu are not available in Baguio, like the spider roll and wagyu slammer. I always love me some Japanese surf-n-turf. To keep me away from seafood and steak, hurts! Deep! 128514

I can't say anything bad about SumoSam. This place has always fulfilled my cravings for sushi rolls. It brings me to my happy place. The only reason why I give this only three stars is because, honestly, I had better rolls in Manila and better sashimi at Chaya.

Happy eating!!!

Maybe I ordered the wrong food.. But..
Very unhappy with the service. It is so slow! We called twice for assistance. I had to shout to call their attention or walk up to the counter. I called twice for my bill and they even forgot to refill my tea! The rice that they served isn't Japanese rice and the beef Misono was very dry. The iced tea came from a powdered packet. The only good thing about the food is the Vegas Roll, but the taste lacked depth and isn't coherent.

Great Japanese food! 128522 i am a sucker for Japanese food! It is so hard to make at home and so I am always excited about trying Japanese restaurants in the Metro. This may not be my favorite one, but it's still very tasty! Their food is a pricey though. But all in all, this place is great! 100841008410084

Since I had my ojt in Camp John Hay, Ayala Technohub has been our tambayan since then. Soooo we decided to go Japanese for lunch! SumoSam! 128522

SumoSam has great bento meals! Rolls are good also but are smaller and a bit expensive compared to the usual ones. Honestly, I find Teriyaki Boy's even better (specifically Philadelphia and Philly Cheesesteak 128523) .... Is it just me or Tboy really has better ones? I dunnooooo 128557

***Love the servers costumes and hair!! So cuteee 9996
