Since it was locally owned, I immediately had the impression that it had weak sales. My first ever visit proved me wrong. It was not yet dinner hour when we got there but we were already asked to wait in line. Good thing was that we only waited for 5-10 minutes before we were given a table.

I ordered Chashu Ramen and chose shoyu for my broth. I like how it was appetizing to look at and made me even more hungry. Haha. Too bad that that's probably my best comment for the dish. The chashu, nori, and other toppings were just okay. Nothing special about it. Their noodles were a bit hard to bite and chew. The broth was a little bland too. For me, since I chose shoyu, I think it lacked some saltiness in it.

It was my first time to eat at sumo sam and i was pleasantly surprised with how good their food was. I particularly enjoyed the spicy tuna tacos and yakimeshi rice. Altho a bit pricey, the quality and taste of the food is worth it.

Just one thing: the place is dark and dingy.. definitely needs a make-over.

The dragon roll was pretty good. However, the star of the show was the green chicken.

The Japanese believe that sushi is considered an art form because its appearance is just as important as how it tastes.

My lunch at Sumo Sam today was a major letdown.

I ordered kani salad and it was all lettuce with so little dressing and a few strips crab in it. The dip for the tempura was insipid. It was like dipping shrimp in hot water. The gyosa and the maki were mediocre as well.

Good thing I did not have to pay for it because it was a meeting with a client. Sorry no pics of the boring food.

Their service was slow. There were only 2 other tables when we ate there.

Ordered Katsudon rosu it was ok, nothing special. (351.36 pesos including tax and service charge)

They serve decent Japanese dishes at a very reasonable price. I may have biases when it comes to Japanese food, but hell, it's Japanese!

For quick service, quality Japanese dishes at reasonable prices, Sumosam's the place.

Their Green Chicken with ponzu sauce is a standard order for our family. Small chicken thigh pieces fried to perfection, crispy skin and tender meat. It is sprinkled with ground dried green herb (hence the name, Green Chicken). The Ponzu is the perfect dipping sauce, sour and doesn't overpower the taste of the chicken.

They renamed it to Chicken Karaage when they changed their menu.

Decided to give this restaurant a shot, finally! Expensive, oddly lit place, O K service.

Started off with some appetizing grilled salmon belly. Boy, did it bring a smile to my seemingly hungry face. Intensely flavorful. Their beef gyudon is also a catch here, such genuine exquisite taste but not something you can't find elsewhere. I'd keep away from their deceiving ramen presentations from their menu. Not the best(nor worst) batch I have tried.

Random reviews here and there on a variety of branches. IMHO, tis a good spot nonetheless to grab a snack to satisfy your Japanese cravings.

The tempura was just like any other tempuras I tasted. But I noticed that they updated their menu. However, it's sad that I feel like their food is now overrated. Not that good for the price. Quite expensive.

One Word: Over Priced

Food's ok but for the price, definitely did not get our money's worth. I distinctly remember my mom's face when she got the bill and gasped "ang mahal!"

Masarap naman. But there are a lot more Japanese restaurants na is not too pricey but still hits the spot!

Pwede naman bumalik, but it won't be my first choice for a Jap resto. 128528

We were famished & decided to have an early dinner before watching a 7pm movie at Shangrila. First resto we spotted was Sumo Sam. The place was teeming with customers who probably had the same idea as ours.
Only one concern, the sushi came last, after the japanese fried rice, pork gyoza & chicken teriyaki. But service was brisk, with the waiters refilling our water glasses often.
The aircon needs improvement though.
I'm glad that they were able to maintain their quality in spite of being around for quite awhile and having so many sister japanese restos.
The chicken teriyaki is still good.
Side note: My husband introduced me to his mother 7 years ago at this restaurant. We had been going our for barely a month and Sumo Sam was the neutral & casual enough venue to break bread. Lol! Almost sounds like a peace treaty agreement. But those of you with in-laws would understand.
