Sumosam! 10084

I was supposed to eat at Sumosam yesterday and saw that It was replaced by another restaurant. I wonder if they just transferred to another area or if they decided to close in the mall. 128532

The place sure looked cozy but the food was not so special.

First served was the Fried Gyoza. I never liked gyoza but it tastes well when fried, especially that the seasoning was wholesome like the one we had. Next was the Salmon Sashimi. It was in huge cuts and it was juicy with a velvety texture. We liked it and my brother said it was the best he have had so far. Then came the sweet tofu in shoyu soup. Shoyu was a pleasure in our taste buds and we poured it on our gohan rice because it made everything taste better. But the tofu itself was great at first bite only until it irritated my taste as I went on eating the big chunk of it. It was so soft like "taho" I ended up disliking my own order. And then another best, the Beef Tepan, was so tender I enjoyed chewing it effortlessly. It was so tasty and delicious. My brother also ordered their ramen with miso broth. I hate miso and the noodles was badly cooked, not my type of ramen.

Anyway, just to give you a heads up, their serving is so little.

I don't know what occassion was it, but ALL restaurants are full and others have waiting customers. Choices were Conti's, Cafe Mary Grace, then The Chophouse (there's available al fresco but kinda hot that night). Then good thing SumoSam has few tables left. We were already hungry that night.

Orders:

Red Iced Tea 128 127775127775127775127775 (I like Tokyo Tokyo's)

Ebi Tempura 398 127775127775127775127775

Oyster Teppan 248 127775127775127775127775127775 (I'm happy hindi malansa)

Beef Teppan 150g 428 127775127775127775 for the size, I can find an eat-all-you-can resto for the price

Sumosam Pride 308 127775127775127775127775

Japanese Fried Rice 348 127775127775127775127775127775

Service charge 185

Funny thing was after we ordered everything most of our orders were served in less than 5mins. 5 stars na sana for service yun pala may kapareha kame ng order sa ibang table hahaha! Buti hindi pa namin nakainan cuz I take photos first before kumain.

I loved everything! #HappyTummy #HappyPalate

We all now that this is a Japanese-inspired restaurant, authenticity is not what I went for. They served delicious list of menu. Not wallet friendly but I'm contented with the food served.

So where's the food picture? Too bad I wasn't able to take a picture of it... It's a meeting with an attorney kasi with boss. It would be too embarrassing to take a picture.. So i just took a pic of the place before the guest arrived.

I ordered their sashimi set over rice (man! I forgot the name again!... Chiyoshobi?... Basta it's found on their first few menu page.)
Sashimi includes shrimp, octopus, tuna, salmon, tamago. What was remarkable was the rice used... It was sushi rice with sesame.. Yum.

The place was big. Server where courteous...

Spicy Tuna Salad

MUST TRY! This is my first time to eat raw fish and I love it!

For those who haven't try eating raw, this is a good start. The spicy flavor it has will compliment the delicious taste of tuna.

Also, I love the fresh lettuce!

Clap! Clap!

Me and a friend were craving for sushi and decided to try at SumoSam.

Ordered SumoSam's Pride, salad with mangoes and (I think) grilled shrimps that are cooked great and deliciously! We also ordered Ebi Aunori Pasta, just meh. Full of oil and nuts, not worth it. And for the cravings, we tried the Spicy Caravan! Heavenly sushi! Not spicy for a spicy foods-lover like me though.

Never regretted it! Our bill is worth the delicious foods. Friendly staff and good service too.

My only nice pic is the banana split the staff gave her! Happy birthday!127874127848127846127847

This Dynamite Rolls made me a Sumo for sushi rolls! I can never run out of love for Japanese cuisines particularly for this dish.

This palatable course is a 6 for me, beyond perfect! I loved how the ingredients folded in my taste buds down to my throat. It had the right amount of spice and sweetness plus some crisp from the fried tuna skin toppings. They also served a special sushi dip for this one, apart for the usual Kikoman x wasabi combo.

This baby only costs P268.00, if my memory serves me right, and has 8 slices. This meal can probably serve one to two persons but mind you, I'm pretty sure you'll want more after one plate and another.128521

Order a Shoyo Ramen to partner with this, for sure your Japanese food escapade at Sumosam will be one for the books!

Sumosam is quite expensive but food is delicious. Rice is too heavy. Hehe. But I like it there. TriNoma's branch had friendly staff and fast service. Although they confuse the orders a lot. So yeah.

Before i started eating at this place I always wondered why the Shang branch was always packed for Sunday lunch. One day around two years ago We decided to eat at the Trinoma branch to see what all the fuss was about i ordered the teriyaki chicken and the dynamite maki and I've been ordering the same thing ever since. Admittedly I've tried a few other makis but they didn't seem to do it for me.

Chicken teriyaki bowl (w/fried rice) - the portion is very filling, the chicken is always grilled to perfection (i've only experienced it burnt one time which is the one in the picture), my only complaint would be the lack of teriyaki sauce but they would happily give me more anyway so it's not a problem. The salad that comes with it if im not mistaken has an orange vinaigrette dressing which compliments the dish well.

Dynamite roll - my favorite part of this maki is the fried salmon skin in top. I stay away from the sauce that it comes with, in my opinion, it tastes funny, i prefer wasabi and kikkoman.

As for the service, the staff is well trained and attentive, I havnt had a problem yet. Good job. 128079

Attached are their famous crunchy tuna roll and salmon sashimi. I was addicted to their crunchy tuna roll when I first tried Sumosam and am always ordering one every visit. But its magic on me wore off.. Maybe because of Omakase -- my favorite Japanese restaurant. Oh hello. But I do love their sauce (though from experience, it varies depending on the branch you go to.)

Salmon sashimi? I love salmons and as long as its fresh, no way will salmon sashimi fail you (no matter what Jap restau you are in)

I say.. The restaurant's too pricey and overrated. Not my favorite Japanese, but when craving (which in my case happens almost always), this can do. 128521

I'm a sucker for Japanese food so I was stoked to try SumoSam.

The ambience was quite cool. It was very modern zen-like with the soft lighting and the traditional jalanese art lining the walls. It was probably the climate but it was stifling in the restaurant. Turn the AC up, please!

The food was quite good, but not spectacular. I had the Kamameshi (middle left) which is stir-fried pork and beef on top of sticky rice, with nori garnish, all in one small bowl. You would think that the serving is quite small, but you would be surprised to not even be able to finish it. The meat was tender, a bit dry but perfect with the rice.

For those under a tight budget, the animè-coined sandwich platters might be your thing. Bottom left would be the Daimos burger which had a thick beef patty with a side of onion rings. This is not your regular burger because SumoSam added a twist: crab coleslaw. It looked weird but strangely complimented the burger.

What I enjoyed the most was their green iced tea. It wasn't overly-sweet and refreshing in such humid weather.

Tone down the prices a bit and I would definitely come back.

Affordable Japanese cuisine with a twist (some are fusion). For some reason, my kids love eating here.
