If you are looking for a quick get-away from the city, I suggest the Viaje del Sol tour for you weekend warriors... It's an informal tour that is the brainchild of Patis Tesoro (Filipiniana designer, Tesoro's)... It was marketed as a guide for visiting the cafes, tourist attractions and shops along Laguna-Quezon... It is essentially a DIY tour for those who want to explore these cities at their own pace, with downloadable online maps for easy access... This route changes yearly, so download the lastest version for the places indicated in the map may no longer be open!
Viaje del Sol is translated as "the way of the sun"... It includes famous stops such as the Kinabuhayan Cafe in Quezon, Kusina Salud owned by Patis Tesoro herself (now rebranded as Patis Tito Garden Cafe), Ugu Bigyan's pottery studio, and Casa San Pablo in Laguna... Following the suggested places ensures a unique and enjoyable experience, especially for those who are newcomers in the area...
Not only do they suggest dining options, shops, and attractions, but they also have suggestions for accommodations as well... My friend and I decided to stay at Tahanan ni Aling Meding for a night, included in the tour suggestions... It's an ancestral home that was named for the matriarch of the Borja family, maintained as a bed and breakfast to this day... We chose it because it was walking distance from Sampaloc lake and the prices were reasonable!
We shared a twin room, which was very homey and comfortable... Amenities were complete... We explored the house, which was big enough to host a small wedding... The feel of the place was very informal, with smiling staff everywhere! Bring your bathing suit too btw! They have a pool that you can use... We enjoyed hanging out by their foyer overlooking the inactive volcano across the lake... Breakfast was simple, lutong bahay type of meal...
If you do decide to try the itinerary, this is a good place to lay your weary head at night!
