Finally I got to try Tenya Tempura Tendon! This place has been here since Stopover opened last year but each time my wife and I would head there, it's always freaking closed! Apparently this is one of maybe a handful of restos that close (relatviely) damned early (the other bring Kaya) in Stopover. Boooo!

Interesting though, I finally got to try this last July in Tokyo coz I was craving for Tempura and it was one of the top rated ones. Value for money place while the other highly rated ones were at high end steak place levels #fuggedaboutit. Uhm, relative to Japan, value for money, that is. Alam mo naman sa Pinas, may Tokyo Tokyo for cheap tempura. 128514

Anyway, I met up with my good friend and he told me it was my call on the resto so, boom, we went here! (actually it was supposed to be Cocina Peruvia but that's a place better to eat at when you're in a bigger group, so I changed my mind after we parked).

The place is simple, clean, yet warm and had that Japanese feel to its design. Quite nice, and a bit better than the Tenya I ate at in Tokyo, which was more like a Yoshinoya or fast food-like.

We ordered the Appetizer sampler. Potato salad, fried cheese, karaage and fried tofu. P300+ so good to share among 2 to 3 people. 1277751277751277751/2

Then we had the Asakusa Tempura platter which is P380 but with rice and either soba or udon added (I got the udon). 3 pieces of tiger Prawn Tempura, 4 beans and a vegetable tempura bigger than a homemade okoy). Pretty solid stuff. Decent size shrimp. Like I said, there are cheaper places for tempura but this one's got quality and relatively higher quality for the value you paid. The soba was solid though I found the broth a bit salty. I also tried my friend's udon which is thinner and made with buckwheat. Good too. Didn't touch the rice na. 127775127775127775127775

Service tea and water were served promptly too. Solid place.

Since I was near Stopover, decided to go here and check out Tenya's anniversary freebie. Saw their ad in Facebook that you'll get prawn tempura when you order any Tendon. The picture contains three prawn tempura.

There were only a few tables occupied when I got here around lunch time. Ordered the Classic Tendon for Php255. Tendon is basically tempura served over a bed of steamed rice. The service was quite fast and aside from my tendon, I was also served a bowl of hot miso soup.

Although the food was pricey, it was definitely worth it. The miso soup was divine. The batter was light and crunchy. And the drizzled sauce was really tasty and umami. I only got an additional one prawn tempura though. Together with the sweet potato, kisu, green beans, and squid.

I'll definitely go back and try the other tendon.

After dinner we had japanese cheesecake php 130, and Ningyo-Yaki sundae , it is a baked japanese cake ( bear ) snack with vanilla ice cream in Nutella or dulce de leche, famous in Asakusa. The bear shape japanese cake was a bit tough , I think there was too much dough, not flavorful when eaten alone, but was ok with the sundae. Cheesecake was ok

We arrived at 7:30 pm and was promptly seated. The place was well lit, with tables neatly arranged. It can accomodate 40 pax. The wall was decorated with posters of japanese food. The place smell fresh despite food being cooked in the premises.
Since there were 4 of us we ordered the takekago set, an appetizer basket good for 3-4 pax. It consist of karaage, Isobe cheese, agedashi tofu and potato salad. Php 340...for main meal we ordered YUME, good for 4 pax. It has prawn, kani, squid, kisu, green beans, kakiage, rice, miso and sweet potato. All fried in tempura batter. Php 1195. The prawn tempura was soft and juicy, squid was not too tough. But midway during the meal "umay". Factor sets in since everything was fried and then dipped into tempura sauce. I asked if they have Japanese pickles, our server Angelo and Shine quickly brought a jar of the purple shiba pickles. This quickly resolved the "umay". For dessert we had Japanese cheesecake and ningyo-yaki sundae, a baked japanese cake ( bear ) with vanilla ice cream in Nutella or dulce de leche, famous in Asakusa.

Tempuraaaaaaaaa at Tenyaaaaa!!! 127857127844127834127884

They have 3 branches near me (southmall, bgc stopover and market market) and it's weird that it was only just recently that we were able to eat here. 128517 Before going, I decided to browse and check for reviews just so I know what to order. Some reviewers liked it while some disliked it or was disappointed because there was nothing really extra special. So I didn't expected a lot. Para di masaktan.. Mahirap na!! 128517

Anyway, Sunday is the perfect day to try restaurants here in BGC w your family or friends because it a non working day, the place is really peaceful, there's no waiting needed, no lines, and there's a lot of free parking spaces, as well. But note that it's best to call before going since some restaurants are not open. 128521

Arrived around 7pm and we were seated right away. The place is just small with around 10 tables. But it was designed ao well that they were able to maximize the space. And it's bright and very clean inside. No restroom but they have an area where you can wash and clean your hands. 128522

The menu is all things tempura. Everything is battered and deep fried and served w the special dontare sauce. Tendon (rice meals) are served with miso soup. They also have salads, karaage, agedashi tofu, isobe cheese or the cheese filled seaweed, and of course, desserts.

We were not in the mood for sharing so we each ordered our own meals. My aunt and grandma tried the Asakusa Special Tendon and Kakiage Tendon which they both liked and enjoyed. I asked if I could taste both and I liked the Kakiage Tendon more than the Asakusa Special Tendon. The shrimp tempura for me, was just okay. The breading was not too thick, it was light and the shrimp inside was still juicy, not dry and tough. Not oily as well. But nothing really really extraordinary. I liked the fried green beans, though! 128518128513 The Kakiage was good!! It's like a shrimp omelet but instead of egg, it is tempura w onions, celery, and drizzled with their special dontare sauce. It was really flavorful, generous serving of juicy mini shrimps, and it's a nice alternative to the usual deep fried shrimp tempura. 127844 My uncle had the Chicken Mayo tendon which I was not able to try anymore but he liked it daw. 128517

I, on the other hand, decided to try the Spicy Salmon Salad. The salad was super yummy!! Generous serving of spicy salmon fillet w Japanese mayo, lots of lettuce, corn, crabstick, nori w my all time fave dressing the roasted sesame dressing. One of the best budget-friendly salad for me!! 128077🏼

Service was excellent, as well. It wasn't that hard trying to get their attention and they give you what you need and asked for right away. No need to wait that long. 128513

It's the kind of restaurant I am willing to try again. And I will order the salmon salad over and over and over again! 10084

This (Asakusa special) for 315 Pesos is a little too steep for the serving. Well it does taste different having a soy based sauce running on top of it. Good thing there is a bottle of pickles. To stave off the lingering saltiness. Overall it was a good experience
