Meh food. Extremely poor service. Bit pricy. 128532

(Thought of writing a quick review just because I was really disappointed on the food and service)

Enjoyed this japanese resto. The isobe cheese, salmon salad, sushi, tendon, kisu, pork sukiyaki-like dish were all good. Even ordered a box of ningyoyakii. :)

Went a little far South yesterday for our family dental checkup and ended up in SM Southmall for a late lunch. My daughters have been going crazy over cold soba so when we saw Tenya, we went for it.

Matcha Smoothie was the first order of business! It wasn't in their menu but the server suggested it to me. Honestly, this could use some more Matcha but I liked that it wasn't icy at all so maybe they used ice cream instead of ice. More like a milk shake. Not bad, Matcha taste was still evident.

We got 2 sets of their All Star Tempura - 1 with Cold Soba and one with Hot Udon.

A basket of tempura, rice and noodles were in the set. A huge piece of prawn, squid, salmon, kani stick, green beans, mushroom and "okoy" looking piece made up of onions and shrimps were included. I liked that they were perfectly fried with crunchy breading. Dip into the tempura sauce and you're good! Pretty filling.

The Udon was just okay. It was my first time to try Udon and I didn't like it. The Cold Soba was good. Nothing exceptional but the dipping sauce had the right balance of salty and sweet.

For dessert, we got Ningyo-Yaki Sundae. A scoop of vanilla ice cream that was very icy, with Nutella Drizzle (you can opt for dulce de leche) and a Japanese Cake Snack on top filled with Nutella. We asked for an extra cake with Dulce de Leche filling. Nothing special though and overpriced at 125php. The extra Japanase cake was for 25Php. So if you come to think of it, we paid 100php for the scoop of icy ice cream! 128563

Anyhow, customer service was top notch! Loved that our server was easy to talk to and made sure that he got all of our requests covered - extra tissue, extra chopsticks, water, sorry for the spilled soup and the spilled noodles LOL

Adding 1 star for service! And take note, no service charge too!

Was there a real need to bring tenya here?

I don't think so.

Line was too long at Sambokojin so we walked along food street to check out some other restos. Saw Tenya and it looked really inviting, clean interiors and smiling servers. We went right ahead without doing any research! I didn't even consult |ooloo!
Place was simple and clean. Their specialty is tempura and apparently it's the way tempura is cooked/served in asakusa (or something). It's also served in a bowl, toppings style. I tried the 3 piece prawn tempura and hubby tried the one with salmon and squid. Each bowl is 300+. Also tried a couple of sides, the fried cheese which is cheese wrapped in nori and deep fried like a tempura. I got the spicy salmon salad.
Orders arrived quickly. Cheese dish was ok but you've to eat it right away, if not titigas ulit yung cheese. I liked the salmon salad a lot!
However, the tempura is quite disappointing. Parang tokyo2 Lang Ganun. And for the price too! Was expecting something stellar since the franchise came all the way from Japan. I guess this resto is more of a fast food fix over there.
Hanamaruken tempura is still the best for me.
Service was great, I'll give them that 128077🏼but for the food, meh.
1k for th both of us, no drinks.
