We were invited for the launch of ULI at The Brewery At The Palace. The event was co-sponsored by Hinelaban Coffee.

————————————————————

ORIGIN

The soul of ULI Coffee Beer traces its roots from the Arabica Coffee grown by the indigenous people in the mountain ranges of Kitanglad and Pantaron of Bukidnon.

THE PERSONALITIES

Renee Araneta Perrine, Founder of Hineleban Coffee

RENEE ARANETA PERRINE was the ultimate city girl who turned to farming in 2008 through her first venture "My Personal Farmer" sending boxes of organic vegetables door to door from Tuminugan Farm in Bukidnon to Metro Manila families enrolled in the program. Soon after, she began an Arabica coffee adventure by dispersing Arabica seedlings to the Indigenous People of Bukidnon. By 2010, Hineleban Coffee came into fruition bringing coffee directly from farm to market, cutting all middle men, remunerating farmers 300% more in cherry prices than traditional coffee business models. She also uses similar models to carry on her various projects that deal with local produce like Hineleban Taro Flour and Hineleban Bamboo.

Renee is truly a driven individual who truly strives to achieve work life integration as well as pursuing her advocacy of improving the welfare of
her fellowmen.

Rajesh Sadhwani, President of Feastbev Inc.

RAJESH SADHWANI is a beer connoisseur. Aside from loving this gentle alcoholic drink, he treasures the financial independence he derives out of the business his passion has led him to. From importing premium beer for local distribution, Sadhwani now owns the country’s largest micro brewery business as a natural complement to his growing distribution business of imported wines and beer spirit and an expanding chain of restaurants.

THE COFFEE

Hineleban Coffee is cupped as Excellent by Marty Curtis with a grade of 86.25. During the Global Specialty Coffee Expo last April 2017 in Seattle.

Marty Curtis is the one that invented the Specialty Coffee Association cupping scoring sheet and parameters for grading specialty coffee.

THE BEER

The Brewing Process

It starts from the mashing of grains, hops and water to make wort. The beer wort is boiled with hops (and other flavorings) in a large tank known as a “copper” or brew kettle. Fermentation comes after that by adding yeast. After fermentation, beer is conditioned, matured or aged.

The Technology

The Brewery At The Palace is the very first bar and restaurant with its own microbrewery. Its equipment came from SALM, one of Europe’s oldest and known manufacturers of brewing machines. Its machine guarantees to manufacture the best lagers, wheat beers, and beer specials by using decoction and infusion brewing methods.

The Output

Uli is a golden yellow lager beer infused with Hineleban Coffee from Bukidnon. It has a wonderful coffee fragrance and extraordinary coffee taste combined in a fresh craft beer. It naturally contains caffeine as part of its mix. Beer and Meal pairings include Beef pot roast, Chili con rice, Beef Rendang or Flourless chocolate cake. Uli Beer Specifications - Original gravity 12.9 %, ABV (Alcohol By Volume) 5.5%, IBU (International Bitterness Units) 24

THE ADVOCACY

For every ULI Coffee Beer sold (Priced at Php 120 + SC per 300 ml glass), The Brewery at the Palace will donate P 25 to the Hineleban Foundation.

The Hineleban Group help support Indigenous People's communities as well as the reforestation efforts of Mindanao's mountain ranges.

———————————————————

Verdict: The beer tasted like a real coffee. Best paired with your favorite pulutan. I think I had 4 glasses of coffee beer.

We were served sime of the bestseller of The Brewery at the Palace during the launch.

The Sisig Pizza and Crispy Pata were my favorites during the launch. It is best paired with Uli Coffee Beer. The dishes complement with the coffee beer.

The grilled salmon was dry, it would be better if it’s more juicier.

Overall, The staff provided excellent service eventhough it was a full house. They managed to be attentive and alert to all the visitor’s need. I also had fun eating, drinking and dancing.

My new foodie friends and I went here by accident. We were earnestly looking for a dessert place after our filling dinner nearby. This was our last option in the Uptown Parade. Their sweets were limited to 4 items but it was good enough to make us stop here.

Their best selling one was worthy of that accolade. The Brewer’s Cheesecake was coffee rich, smooth and sweetened just right. For more sugar feel, simply drag it around the plate.

Banana Split was not that usual because you can pick 3 of their artisanal own made ice creams. The Lager Peanut butter was my favorite. The flavor in it was really strong! The Blueberry Cheesecake and Cookie Dough were typical but not as creamy.

Since it was a beer hub (they brew beer on the spot) and none of us were beer lovers, we asked the wait staff the magic question. What is the best and sweetest one they got? I forgot the name and I can’t find it in google either! 128539 It’s the first one in their list. For me, it was too light in taste, almost like San Mig Light. Wait, does that give justice?

Got their BOGO Bacardi beer mojitos on a Saturday night out with cousins. This time it felt like there was barely any alcohol. I had 2 glasses and barely felt a buzz. The last time I ordered this, the drink was perfect.

Price is just 250 for 2 glasses. Super sulit sana but if there's barely any alcohol in it, and considering this is a drinking place, I might as well have ordered pineapple juice. Or should've just gotten their house brewed Stout, which I really like.

Nachos we're ok, good enough to share with the 4 of us. It had a generous amount of toppings too.

Came in a few minutes before midnight. The place wasn't filled to the brim, but there was a good number of people inside. They have their own brewery inside, hence their name. Just climb a short flight of stairs to look at it.

If you're iffy about the Pool Club, not sure if you want to go in, or just curious, they have outdoor seating right by it. You can take a peek through here.

My friend and her husband came back for a visit in Manila. Before they left, we had dinner with my barkada at this resto bar. Price range for food is around 125PHp to 1850PHp. Drinks on the other hand depends on what type of drink you prefer. They offer their own concoction on beers and offer several known hard liquors.

Have offer buy one take one on these drinks:
Mojito Beer (250PHp) we didn't like the taste, it was bitter and for us the combination of the two didn't work well.
Moscow Mule (250PHp) this tasted great for me. It's like a calamansi vodka combo.

For the food even though it's pricey they were all delicious.

Went out for a drink last Thursday with some clients. Good food, quite a good serving. Forgot to take pictures but we had the seafood sampler, the sausage sampler, salpicao, sisig pizza and the beef pot roast, the pot roast was so soft. Sisig of pizza was interesting as there was a sunny side up egg on the middle of the pizza but it was good. Apple Martini was really nice. My friend our client liked the Weisbeer, taste like san mig light. IPA taste more of the pale pilsen. I forgot the other beer that has a hint of coffee. It was a nice place to have a drink and yet you can still tall without shouting.

So ang options ko dito sa BGC ay:

1. Karinderya na mura pero di masarap.
2. Food court na mura at masarap ngunit amoy food court ka din pag labas.
3. The Brewery na mas mahal ng onti ngunit masarap naman ang pagkain.

Thanks sa Lord for their P99 rice bowls.

Bacardi Beer Mojito 150.00 at BOGO all day and all night. Hey, I really enjoyed this! You can share this with a friend or get your other glass when you're done with the first. If taken in moderation, like drinking casually, it'll give you just the right buzz.

Also like their own brewed Stout 210.00 300ml / 290.00 500 ml. Described as heavily roasted with hints of chocolate and coffee. Yum. Not bitter at all for me.

Thanks for the recos :)

We finally got to The Brewery at the Palace around 7PM, an hour late than agreed. (Sorry Christina R. 128569) We practically owned the place! The look of the pub was really nice too, but the place was so cold. 128569 A few minutes after Ellaine and Dennis arrived and we started ordering already.
Josh G. and I ordered their Beer Mojito which was the drink recommended by Christina. Great thing they were doing a BOGO promo for this drink, and it's all night long too! (And it's not just a Happy Hour promo!)

I really loved this drink! The sweet and tangy flavor of the mojito was enhanced by the beer. It was absolutely delicious, plus I think it had just the right kind of spike. 128571

We got to try some of EJ B. 's Stout which was also on BOGO promo. It tasted like black coffee for me. It was good too, but I'm a lady a is more apt to drinking cocktails. 128568

I will definitely come back! 128571

A great place to hang-out and have several rounds of alcohol, beers and cocktails, service is good and staffs are accommodating. Overall, I had a great time.

Beer Mojito 127865
Taste is a refreshing mix of lime and mint but with bitter sweet ending, reasonably priced.

A side note:
It’s great to know that they brew their own beer. They have pilsner, wheat beer, IPA and stout. 127867

OMG. Nice place but blah food. Natikman ko lang na okay e yung ice cream na nasa ibabaw nung dessert. Sana man lang mas masarap yung iced tea na 110PHP na nasa napaka nipis na baso, kaso hindi e. Burat.
