When The Halal Guys first opened i don't remember there being a sampler platter, but i do remember wishing there was one so i could conveniently try everything at once (chicken, gyro, and falafel). So its a good thing they do have one on their menu now, especially when the craving kicks in!

But my new fave has got to be the chicken over fries. I loved their seasoned fries since day 1 and to have just that and meat simply made everything perfect!

Lotsa white sauce, bbq sauce, and a few dollops of red sauce and i'm good to go. 128077

I have been eying The Halal Guys since it opened its first store in Megamall Fashion Hall. But the long queue and the not so good reviews made me decide to wait it out. I assumed that it’ll get better after some time as they would have adjusted and enhanced their offerings by then. And it seems true as the reviews started to get better but I still read a lot of feedback that it’s not as good as the one from New York. I have tried the original one and I was quite scared to be disappointed, especially after all the excitement the banner “The Halal Guys Opening Soon” brought. But I was fated to try it when I got some vouchers for its Combo Platter, thanks to |ooloo.

Hello, The Halal Guys!

There was no line when we got there around 6:20 p.m.. We were next in line and we quickly ordered two Combo Platters (PHP299 each) and handed our vouchers.

We got our food in less than 5 minutes and since it was humid that night, we decided to enjoy our platters at home.

I totally forgot to check if we got enough white sauce. I just remembered when I was preparing the table. (Then again, it was okay since I had no plans to pay extra for it.)

I poured the white sauce and barbecue sauce on the platter and mixed it all together. That was when I realised that the sauces were not enough.

Some spoonfuls were rather dry because the beef and chicken were not as juicy as expected. The crunchy lettuce though was delightful and added texture to the dish. I also liked the rice that came with the platter as it added flavor to the whole platter.

Actually, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would have been. It was a pretty decent and filling dish. And one platter is good for two! I just wish they add more white sauce and do something with the dry beef and chicken chunks.

P.S. For some reason, it tasted so much better after a few days. It was more flavorful.

One night, while walking along high street, my officemate and I decided to try Halal Guys. We've always wanted to try this but (1) too far from our office, (2) negative reviews and (3), found it too pricey (which is somehow related with reason number 2).

But out of curiosity and since there was no line, we decided to give this place a try.

Ordered the small gyro and chicken combo over rice for 269 pesos. After 10 minutes, our names were called. We looked for a spot and then started eating.

Based from a looloo article and the instruction posted near the cashier, the right way to eat this is to mix everything together. Add all the white sauce and just the right amount of BBQ and hot sauce. Mix mix mix and when done, eating time!!!!

My all things kebab and shawarma and middle eastern (not sure what this dish is called or under what category this falls 128514) loving friend loved this. She enjoyed this and the hot sauce, I think she almost added everything haha!

For me, it was not super super good but not bad either. Since I don't like rice and "kebab-ish, shawarma-like" dishes, this is not something I will crave or order again. But it was okay. Tama lang.

Maybe because our expectation was so low that when we tried this, we were surprised that it was not that bad. It was actually good and tasty. The beef was tender. Both the beef and chicken was tasty. Generous serving of rice, lettuce, and tomatoes.

Overall, my friend enjoyed this. She is now considering this to be a part of her "comfort food" list. Haha! Worth the try.

I was in Manila last week. So, I took the chance to try The Halal Guys. Tried the small gyro and chicken. I liked it. Serving was too much for me but I managed to finish it. Haha! I just wish it to was more juicy and tasty. Medyo nabitin ako sa white sauce. Hehe! Service was good and fast. Overall, I enjoyed eating it while seeing different people and cute dogs. 128521128525

Got the small chicken + gyro combo platter and regular drink for P199 thanks to the #HALALan2016 promo! Yep, casting my hunger aside before i cast my vote tomorrow. 128513

With that said, good thing it was on sale! Wasn't as amused this time around. Both the chicken and gyro were really dry i could hardly taste them even by itself. And i think i prefer the falafel over the gyro.

199 for a small Chicken & Gyro rice + drink until May 9. Part of their #HALALan2016 promo.

I still think their beef and chicken are dry. I'm guessing they pre-grill and slice their meat in advance that it dries on the counter while waiting. Give me good meat and I'll be her everyday. But overall we like it enough to have come back a couple of times since this opened. 3.5, Pero pwede ng 4. The small serving is very filling. The regular size is good to share for me.

Their white sauce it now in a plastic container. They said they ran out of the packets. Tastes the same to me. Lasang ranch talaga hehe.

I still like my favorite Doner G for their juicy, straight of the grill meat that also comes in big servings. They're in the Kapitolyo area lang and only go there when I'm in the area. I've only tried Shawarma Bros. once, which is often compared to Halal Guys, from a food truck and didn't like it, but I'm willing to try that again because everyone seems to like it.

I don't get what the big fuss is. I didn't enjoy the food one bit. Too bland. And then I added too much chili sauce so I ended up having a bad tummy. 128514 Plus, I prefer dining in. Not worth my boyfriend's money. 128514

I got curious one day and decided to try this joint at BGC. I ordered a small combination platter, hummus and pita.

The platter was good overall. The beef was chewy. The hot sauce was as mentioned, hot. The rice was fluffy and the veggies were fresh. The hummus had the resemblance of the hummus ( ok, it's just chickpeas, tahini, and olive oil. I am sure no cook can mess this up). The Pita bread was small though
Good thing I ordered small or else, I would not be able to finish it.

The staff was courteous and the service was fast...,

I took advantage of one of their promos last month for the P99 peso Chicken in Fries.

Little did I know that this thing was huge. It's best to share for 2-3 persons. Fries were seasoned with a special seasoning which was really really good. Drizzled with their special sauces and little chunks of chicken. It was really good and filling. I had a hard time finishing it up. And that's a lot knowing myself. 128514128514128514128514128514

But no way would I buy it for it's original price of almost P200. Hahahaha.

Finally got to try Halal Bros, i mean, Halal guys! I keep making that mental mistake its annoying. 128541 I've tried the original in NY several years ago, when it was just a food truck. I do remember me sitting down on a bench and enjoying a hearty and warm halal meal on a cold winter. I unfortunately don't remember the specifics of how it tasted, so making a comparison is out the window. 128517

Good thing they opened a branch in BGC, making it a whole lot more convenient for me to go visit. And visit i did! So you line up, then place your order and size - i had a regular chicken and falafel and a side order of fries.

Once you get your platter, follow the instructions - and white sauce, red sauce, then mix mix mix! The result? A delicious and filling plate of mixed rice, tomatoes, cabbage, chicken, and mashed falafel. It definitely still had that persian taste to it with both the white and red sauces - use both if you can take the heat, red sauce is spicy. The fries were something new that i wasnt able to try in NY, and i loved how they were seasoned with bbq powder.

Taste-wise? I'm happy! A little pricey but comparing the cost of a platter in NY, you're actually paying the same as you would there. Good thing the hype died down and there was hardly any line on a sweltering saturday morning. 128517

I have been hearing a lot about this place before they came to PH. Then one day, news broke that they're coming here. And since I am a fan of meditteranean food, I made sure I'd try this and see for myself what the fuss was all about.

I am not a fan of long queue and not so much an avid follower of trends so I let the heat die down a little before I tried it. The one in High Street is not crazy... or atleast no pila when we went there. 128522

I asked some people what they thought of the food and most said it was just okay, some didn't like it. And since I am not the one to just believe what I hear, I went and tried.

Bought myself a chicken and beef combo with hot sauce (they warned me twice... for good reason, too). After paying, I went on my merry way and sat on one of the granite seats nearby. I ordered me an extra pack of white sauce but I realized Ate Cashier mustve forgotten it coz I only got one when I checked my brown bag. Darn.

I have no way of comparing this to the ones in NY, but I liked it. It's not gourmet for sure but the taste most especially when drenched in white sauce is really good (atleast for the chicken and beef combo). I have to remind myself to get extra next time.

It would've been better though if it was freshly-cooked and not microwaved. The beef was also a bit dry and tough. And for that quality, it was a bit overpriced. I'd still probably have it when I crave, though. 128522

P.S.

I'm back!!

I think. 128513128513

We got the gyro, chicken and my favorite is the falafel. We were 5 in the group and we shared the 3 regular platters but I think I can chow down the 1 regular platter myself.. 128523

Hopefully they open more stores here in Manila that's more easily accessible.. 🙂

Yes, I have tried the original in NY.
No, I don't remember how close this is to the original.

All I remember is that it was so good. This was over 5 years ago sorry. I stood in line for this on a solo touristy trip to NY because people (random strangers) said it was good. So on a cool spring evening, pila naman na din ako. For a New York cart, their food was actually cheap. NY is know for really expensive everything, including those yummy honey-roasted nuts you see all over the city.

We got the gyro-falafel combo rice platter and a gyro platter. Did I like this? It was alright. The sauce, which people have labeled as liquid heroine or unicorn tears, tasted like ranch (so sad) and needed more garlic. Ranch, being an American creation instead of a Middle Eastern one which Halal is. Add more garlic and I'll eat here everyday. I honestly like the sauce of Cafe Mediterranean and Doner G more than this. The beef was a bit dry. For the price we paid, almost 900 pesos with drinks, we could've eaten a good, sit down meal somewhere else. My son though, loved it. Hence that extra star. Right after eating this I thought maybe it'll take awhile for me try again. But as I'm writing this, a few weeks later, I'm thinking I don't mind ordering another platter for myself today.

Serving size is huge. The regular bowl is pretty big and I could only eat a third of it. So this makes up for the price. I liked the falafel. This one they make the same way they make falafels in the US. Rice was good. My bowl was served hot. The extra sauce is a must for me. I was able to add a teaspoon of the hot sauce without any regrets. Remember, mix everything before you eat it.

Get a feel of the NY city vibe by eating in their BHS branch where you eat standing up or find your own spot in the park.

It was good but I think it's expensive for a shawarma. Their shawarma dip/sauce was yummy. Sadly, we had to eat it beside the plant box with shrubs, standing. It's awkward and funny in a way seeing others struggle while eating like we do.

The location of this branch could have been better. I prefer eating in the FoodHall Megamall branch as eating shawarma can really be messy sometimes.

This was waiting for me when I got home the other night 128522 hubbybear was in the fort area and I jokingly texted him to get me halal guys, aba tinotoo!
He got the chicken gyro and the beef gyro. He actually came from a dinner pero he didn't like it so we decided to try the chicken gyro even though it was past 1am already. First off, it was huge! The white sauce has already been mixed inside with the veggies and the meat. They also gave us some kind of BBQ sauce and their famous spicy sauce. Warning, it's super spicy! A small amount goes a long way!
I liked the combination of flavors, nothing was overpowering or what and the chicken serving was generous too. The pita was soft and not chewy.
The next day, I made baon the beef gyro. Took the foil out, cut it in two and popped it in the microwave for a minute. It was still good! Happy to say that there was no icky leftover taste (even if it was in the ref for more than 12hrs). Again the pita was still soft! Hope I can try the rice combo next time 128522

I really can't make up my mind about Halal Guys. I ordered the combo falafel and beef gyro. It was okay. I liked the white sauce. It's a bit pricey. The hot sauce is super hot. The kind of hot that stays in your mouth. I'd like to eat there again.
