I still remember the first time R and I went to Tagaytay Highlands. It was a perfect weekend getaway and what made it so special was because R planned the whole trip himself. It was our first out of town trip together. And since then, I could no longer count how many times we went to Tagaytay Highlands or Tagaytay itself for a short escapade. And a couple of weekends ago, we went again, this time with his friends.

Hello, Tagaytay Highlands.

We got to the place a bit past noon and R was rushing for us to get to the Highlanders Steakhouse for lunch. And we made it!

R and I ordered our usuals, John Wayne’s Prime Rib (PHP2,998, 20oz.), Sautéed Scallop of Hudson Valley Foie Gras (PHP920) and Cream of Butternut Squash Soup (PHP158). S suggested that we also get Seared Chilean Sea Bass (PHP1,180) and Baby Back Ribs (PHP820).

While waiting for our orders, we enjoyed the complimentary loaves of bread and butter. L almost finished one whole loaf by herself. I am amazed with this petite girl’s appetite!

My squash soup was served after a few minutes and it was as good as before. It was creamy and slightly sweet and salty. You could definitely taste the delectable taste of pumpkin and the subtle flavor of nuts. It is best with a dash of pepper.

Next served was our favorite foie gras and I still find it the best foie gras around. The generous cuts of foie gras was flavorful and succulent. It went so well with the Hibiscus Tea sauce and caramelized pineapples which balanced off the saltiness of the foie gras.

The other three dishes soon followed.

The steak, prepared medium, was succulent and very tender. I enjoyed each bite with a dash of seasoning and garlic bits. It went so well with the potato gratin and baked potatoes.

The ribs were just so-so for me. It had a nice sweet barbecue sauce all over it and the meat was tender. However, it was just your usual baby back ribs that you could get from Morganfield’s or Rack’s.

The Sea Bass was a nice break from all the meats. It’s light flavor also helped cleanse the palate.

But if I were to choose between fish and steak, I’d go with steak at a heartbeat!

See you soon! (And I did the following weekend!)

Last year we celebrated new year at TH and bought tickets to the countdown party at the Sports Club.
This year we decided to have dinner here instead and just transfer to the Sports Club in time for the new year countdown.
We were a group of 2 families/10pax so we decided to order the Tomahawk Steak (53oz) hoping it would be enough since we were with 5 kids. Turns out they loved the steak they almost ate it all and we had to order another 12oz of rib eye.
We ordered rice and mashed potato, salad and pasta.
Too bad we didn't bring cowboy hats. My family and I wore matching checkered long sleeves polo and pants which matched the country setting of the restaurant.
Service was awesome! Staff were very attentive and fast.
Will definitely go back here again.
Yeeha!

After lunch, R and I decided to ride a cable car to explore Tagaytay Highlands and it turned out to be a not so good idea because it was a really hot afternoon. Good thing we were prepared to swim. (Okay, I was prepared to just dip and do nothing else.) After bringing out the mermaid and merman in us, we decided to have dinner.

Hello, Highlander Steakhouse!

The place has a very cozy feeling. Despite being a steakhouse, it didn’t have a snobbish ambiance to it.

R wanted to eat outside for the view but it was rather chilly that night. Anyway, we still went for it.

We decided to go for the following: Westfalian Barley Soup (PHP158), Sautéed Scallop of Hudson Valley Foie Gras (PHP920), Norwegian Salmon Steak (PHP880) and John Wayne’s Prime Rib (PHP2,598, 20 oz. | PHP1,998, 14 oz. | PHP1,380, 10 oz. | PHP1,008, 7 oz.). We also got some fruit shakes.

The barley soup, which was a mix of ham, carrots, celery and potatoes and blended with cream and egg yolk, was a good appetizer. It sure warmed up the tummy and was pretty light too.

The foie gras was also delightful! I loved the contrast in flavors of the foie gras and the pineapple bits.

While waiting for our main course, there were some fireworks a few miles from us and it was love. (I remember there were fireworks too when we visited 100 Revolving Restaurant. Lucky!)

I got so distracted by the fireworks that I totally forgot to take photos of the mains! So, I present, our half eaten mains.

My salmon was so-so. I guess I really am not a fan of grilled salmon. I prefer it baked.

The prime rib though was delicious. It was juicy and tender. R paired his steak with baked potatoes and wild mushroom ragout.

We ended dinner with an order of panna cotta which was really good. It was topped with grapes and mangoes which gave the smooth panna cotta an additional texture.

Overall, it was a nice dinner. Plus, our server Mary Joy was funny. She only suggested juice for steak and she asked us to sit closer “para sweet."i

That ain't steak in the photo, but it was gooooood. It's actually The Steakhouse' escargot appetizer. Cheesy, scrumptious, it was a flavorful starter. Before that, let me get to how we wounded up there in the first place.

My mother entered the place during lunch hour, confident that we were going to get a seat because she made prior reservations. Lo and behold, front desk person says there was no reservation. Uh-oh. 128576 My mom was about to make a stink and get angry, when all of a sudden, another lady arrives and leads us to their private room. Like. A. Bawwsss. Impressive customer service, I must say. For that, I applaud.

On to the food: aside from the escargot, we had the mussels which were ok. Clam chowder was so-so. Then again, you really go there for THE STEAK. Shared the 10oz rib eye with my 5 year old, so I had to order it medium well. Bad decision. While the steak was delicious, it could have been juicier if I ordered it medium. Oh well, now I know.

Still, I enjoyed the experience. Always loved their steaks. It's nice to know that this establishment is going strong.

I love Tagaytay Highlands. I love it for its cool climate and their steak. But more than steak, they also boast of fresh organic produce which they include in their menu. Their baked veggies such as this lovely platter of hors d'oeuvres is a must try. It is perfectly crisp and tender and it is laced with butter, olive oil, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Of course the steak is the king, served rare with a portable grill for a personalized finish - i like mine medium rare :) lets not talk about the price, because you come here prepared. If you are not a member, you may ask a member to endorse you in advance. Dining is strictly with reservations only for non-members. Its a great place to bring a date :)

We had a family lunch here couple of weeks ago and gahh so good.

We had the salmon which was good but compared to how tearfully amazing the steak was, the steak will blow you away.

Why? Because it was simple no-nonsense good fresh beef that you can cook to your preferred doneness. Hihi.

If you like that kind of thing, simple, down to basics, tender honest to goodness fresh meat with just simple salt and pepper-- then you will love this.

So yes, this is my fave steak place here bec i like that kind of simple. I am ranking it higher than Guilliver's and my cooking haha :-p

Also had clam chowder soup which they so graciously added puff pastry on top of the chowder bowl when my nieces and i requested it. ^_^

I love their staff because it was upscale but honest homy and not preconscious snooty. Type of place where you can just enjoy your meal and the whole afternoon with your loved ones. :-)

Not sure about the price range since i wasn't the one paying (and thank God i wasn't) because it's a little upscale but for the value i say-- just right. You'll definitely get the bang for your buck, just be prepared :))

Based on the menu i saw it was: 800-1k up.

But again, really good value. :-)

With love,
A customer looking forward to our next visit

Can't freakin wait to come back

After our Sonya's garden tour and lunch, this is our next destination. Here we only used the recreational facility the bowling alley and the bill yards, the best thing is...free WIFI 128077128522128522 we have some sort of sport fest.

Our visitors from different Asian country really enjoy the scenic view and the weather, some of them inquire about investing a place here.

They fell in love with the place and want us to host again our next LTA conference.

Late review from my December 29 visit--which happens to be our 3rd yr. anniversary.

I have been coming here since highschool and this was not the first time that they have given us disappointing food and crappy service.

Ordered Wild Mushroom soup for starters. 3 Babyback ribs, salmon steak and some sides for our main dish.

Food was served at the other table ahead of ours when we came in first. They came in a group of 8 and while there were 4 of us (with 2 kids) I am pretty sure our orders should come in first since ours was not a complicated one.

Our food just came in as the other group was just leaving. As the server was presenting the food --he was not sure what the dish is called and as for the sides (you get to choose two for each order) he doesn't know which sides are assigned to the dish (which he wrote down and still completely managed to mess it up)

The only thing that was worth waiting for was the soup. Babyback ribs was not fork tender like it used to be, my salmon was all dried up along with the mushroom ragout.

I was embarassed for bringing Joseph here on our anniv as this was his first time and they completely blew it off.

Felt like throwing a b*tch fit but it was a lovely day i cannot let anyone ruin our anniv. Won't be coming back for a long time.

Our go-to place for steak! Yes, we drive all the way to Tagaytay highlands just for steak. It has become our year end tradition to eat at the steakhouse every end of December and I always look forward to that time.

Instead of ordering the usual rib eye, I opted for their prime rib which, according to our server had better marbling and less fat with softer meat. Got this with corn, buttered vegetable and creamed spinach. 10oz was sakto lang for me! The carnivore in me was so happy. Can't wait for next December.

Attended a wedding here 2 weeks ago! If you rent the venue, they also cater for you. These are their dessert options. Looking at it, it's visually appealing. But the only thing I liked here are the eclairs. The rest are either bland or soggy. Definitely not worth the calories.

My friend told me about this place and so I tried it out last week when I was in Tagaytay. I had the sea bass with vegetables and I loved it. The fish was very juicy and moist, and the taste was just impeccable. It was a bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for. Can't wait to come back to try something else!

I was referred by Gerard L to join the #loolooholidaygiveaway!

The Highlander's Steakhouse prime rib steak. One cannot go wrong when ordering this dish. For only less than 900php you get this juicy, flavorful piece of steak plus your choice of 2 of their side dishes. I personally love their creamed spinach and mashed potato but got corn instead so my meal wouldn't be too filling.

Loved my meal and finished every bit of it. 128522

Finally had the time to spend my day away from the city and just relax and be away from work!

We had a loooong story-filled lunch at the clubhouse. The Salpicao is to die for for....i have a feeling by far the best! We attempted to go to the animal farm and go boating but we ended up taking a nature walk. We, they rather went biking! And we ended up walking some more and we went to play mini golf!

Then...off to the city (of tagaytay)
