Last week, since we were already down South, we thought of bringing our foreign visitor to Tagaytay. The Lake District was suggested and we all agreed immediately. It was already dark when we arrived so it was too bad we did not get to see the Taal Volcano anymore.

One of our companions knew the owner so he was familiar with the place and their food. He gave suggestions and said that an order will be good for one person.

What I ended up ordering was their Baked Pork Ribs served with mashed potato and vegetables, which according to the server was one of their bestsellers. When it arrived, I was surprised that it was served on such a huge plate. And the ribs were huge as well. Very meaty and I think it can actually be shared by two people. I was able to finish everything though. 128517 It was not very ‘fall-off-the-bone’ tender but it was just right. The taste was superb. I did not even need to ask for additional sauce. I enjoyed the mashed potato and other vegetables too. The mashed potato was very smooth and the cauliflower and broccoli were topped with cheese. They were so good.

I was also able to try their Salmon Salpicao. It was really delicious. I’ll probably order that next time.

We dined at the veranda so it was a little chilly. Service was great. They were attentive and cheerful. Oh, and we were given free dessert!128523

Me, my friends and my girlfriend had a spontaneous trip to Tagaytay last night. We were looking for a place to have drinks, and this place just drew us in. The ambiance is pretty awesome. Love that there are lights hanging everywhere!! Feels really nice to hang out in a beautiful place like this.

We decided to have 2 bottles of Hoegaarden each, and it's okay(?). It's a bit expensive for my taste though cause 1 bottle costs about 100+, but we pushed through with it anyway because gosh that ambiance! I think ang binayaran ko ata dito is their ambiance???????? Haha. Loljk. But oh well, minsan lang naman maging spontaneous so nilubos na namin. Won't be coming back to this place though just to have beer. Baka food pwede pa 128557128514

There is a place along the Tagayatay ridge that offers International dishes, some of which have interesting yet delicious twists on Philippine flavors, all priced affordably yet plated artfully. The place is a cozy dining haven that doubles too as a relaxing drinking place where guests can chill. This is The Lake District Restaurant and Lounge.

The place is cozy and carries a warm mix of rustic-industrial vibe. The small first floor enclosed dining area has concrete gray walls with red brick accents. A nice red brick fireplace adorned with vintage music players and a huge faux stag head easily catches guests' attention as one enters the place. A long indoor wooden bar and dark wood furnishings. Modern hanging exposed bulb fixtures and ceiling lamps nicely light the place. Their second floor brings a different vibe. It is a covered al-fresco dining area with cozy thick cushioned white lounge chairs and tables set around a circular island bar. A nice place to dine while enjoying the cool breeze of the ridge or a perfect place to chill and drink with friends through the night.

Their menu offers guests a varied selection of choices ranging from appetizers, salads, meat and seafood mains, bar chows, all day breakfast selections, sandwiches, a few desserts, and a long beverage list. We later learned that their kitchen was run by a head chef who was also behind Unit 27 Apartment Bar + Cafe at the BGC.

We opted to sample some of their house specialties. From their mains, we loved their Tawilis Pasta, Baked Pork Ribs, and Baked Fish in Melted Mozzarella. The underwhelming dishes that we got were their Sirloin Strips and Egg and their T-Bone Steak with Egg. Their specialty dessert, Pudding Deluxe, made for a perfect sweet-ending that we loved.

The Tawilis Pasta (Php 380) was a delicious dish. Made from cured Tawilis (a small fresh water fish indigenous only to Taal Lake) mixed with white sauce and linguini. The Lake District cures their own Tawilis in a garlic-vinegar-oil base (similar to those bottled spicy Spanish sardines). Mixing the flaked fish into the creamy sauce made the pasta dish was reminiscent of a yummy, spicy, garlicky carbonara dish. Unlike sardines that taste more "fishy", the Tawilis gave a nice subtle seafood flavor to the unique carbonara-like dish.

The Baked Pork Ribs (Php 330), to begin with, was nicely plated. The nicely roasted juicy ribs were served over a mound of mash potatoes , a siding of roasted veggies topped with Mornay sauce, and a smudge of pumpkin purée that added nice color to the plating. The ribs were tender and flavorful in their homemade bbq sauce. It went well with the sidings. The creamy mashed potatoes made the dish filling.

The Baked Fish in Melted Mozzarella ( Php 320) again was nicely plated. Flavorful baked fish fillet topped with a light cream sauce and melted gooey Mozzarella , over a base of creamy mashed sweet potatoes, and a siding of buttered veggies.

The T-Bone Steak with Egg (Php 350) was their version of a steak and egg breakfast. It was quite filling with the garlic fried rice side dish. The meat was a bit under seasoned and was a bit tough to the bite.

The Sirloin Strips and Egg (Php 300) was their version of Tapsilog. We felt that the meat was under- seasoned ( we prefer a garlicky tapa) and some of the strips were just too tough to the chew.

The Pudding Deluxe (Php 230) was a delicious warmed dessert that was nicely plated. Made of freshly baked bread pudding in a rich butterscotch sauce, the texture was like a dense, custardy, smooth yet chewy leche flan. More of the yummy butterscotch sauce was used to garnish the plate. Quite honestly, their version of the bread pudding was easily one of the best bread puddings that we have tasted. The accompanying scoop of Vanilla ice cream made the dish even more delish.

I paired my meal with their refreshing and lightly spicy Ginger Iced Tea.

The Lake District can easily be missed as one traverses along the Tagaytay-Nasugbu highway. It sits inside a huge compound (where Gerry's Grill is located) and could not be easily seen from the road. It is located right across the SMDC high rise apartments compound and is situated just before Josephine's (if you are coming from the rotunda). Their huge billboard is the most visible roadside sign marking you have arrived at the place.

For the flavorful, nicely plated , affordable dishes and cozy ambience, The Lake District Restaurant and Lounge comes recommended to foodies looking for a nice dining spot while in Tagaytay.
