My first in the Manila Cathedral and it was majestic.

Went there during a guided walking tour dubbed Old Manila Tour, offered for free by The Good Shepherd Hostel staff.

Admired the security service at the entrance and were keen enough to answer questions when asked. The cathedral's dome shaped main hall, the centuries-old walls, the entrance deserve to be appreciated as the cathedral is preserved well by the city government. In fact, there was a maintenance check on the right side of the building as they were perhaps fortifying some structural segments.

Offered a prayer here and hope someday I will be back to attend one of its mass services preferably early in the morning. 128522

It was my first time to see the historic Manila Cathedral when I started working at Department of Tourism - Intramuros Administration last year. Seeing this kind of structure is one of the reasons why I always want to go to work. Sharing to the world a photo of the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral and if you want to see more of the priceless treasure of our country, visit the Walled City and have a walking tour in Intramuros. #ManilaCathedral #Intramuros

Beautiful cathedral! Newly renovated and air conditioned. I've seen my fare share of cathedrals abroad and I can honestly say I was very impressed with Manila cathedral. Some will say the renovation took out the old charm but as from the pics. They did a great job!

Weddings... Almost every little girl dreams of that grand day when she dons a white gown and slowly walk towards the altar where the man she wishes to spend the rest of her life with patiently waits for her. Most of the invited guests think of how beautiful the wedding is or how lucky the newly weds are. But for me, the first thing that comes to mind is how much money they spent. Weddings are no joke. May it be church, garden or beach wedding, it entails a lot of money, especially if you plan to invite a lot of guests. Then again, I see a lot of couples who go all out because it is, after all, a once in a lifetime experience and they want to have the best memories as newly weds. Anyhoo, this review is all about the Manila Cathedral Basilica.

It has been quite a while since I last went in this picturesque church and I do not recall if it is air conditioned. I didn't mind so much though as the gown I wore had a lot of ventilation. 128518 (Well, it was air conditioned so no worries about looking haggard in photos.)

The church is majestic as always with its high ceilings, beautiful paintings and lovely architecture inside and out. The bride, groom and their entourage had a photo shoot after the wedding and the photos were amazing!

Here's my attempt to get the perfect shot of the couple. 128513

P.S. Those street vendors saved most of us. Since we were all running late for the wedding, most, if not all, skipped lunch. The wedding ended around 3:30 p.m. and several rushed to the sorbetero for some sugar.

This church will always hold a special place in my heart for it always reminds me the how our "Sunday - family day" were spent back when I was a kid. We would always begin with a mass here and go spend the day together wherever or however. With the newly renovated cathedral now, I'd say it did the church good and I'm just glad they didn't paint off just any color on the facade but more so, the improvements are good and really evident. Wish I can still come to mass here more often though. 128522

It's like a mini (shorter aisle) Westminster Abbey. 128146 You know, where Kate and Wil got married. Haha.128586

Now onto the details; Did you know⁉

That we have a replica of Michelangelo Buenarroti's, La Pieta. Enshrined at the Manila cathedral, in Intramuros!

The beauty of the La Pieta struck me but looking at it closely you'll be even more amazed at finding that Michelangelo so perfectly depicted life and death by using shadows. You would see that Mama Mary's sculpture has all the shadows(life), in contrast to Jesus' pale lifeless body(death). I never really appreciated art til now. I don't regret that I don't have a photo of it because standing there looking at it, makes me feel like a photo wouldn't really do it justice. It's worth the trip.💯

Here's something bet you don't hear very often. Michelangelo worked on this sculpture for 2 years and the Church then didn't want to acknowledge that it was his work, so he snuck in and inscribed his name across the La Pieta to make sure he gets recognised for the work of art. ©

I also learned that the inscription at the Church's altar, atop Mama Mary which is "Tota Pulchra es Maria et Macula Originalis Non est in Te" translated to me real time, means
"You are beautiful Mary and the stain of the original sin is not in thee."

A trip to the Manila Cathedral could be very enlightening. In more ways than one. 128540

Rumor has it that it is bad luck to hold your wedding at Manila Cathedral. People say that many couples who exchanged vows in this church have separated. I’m not sure where this rumor come from or if there is any truth to it. All I know is that Manila Cathedral is the most beautiful church I’ve ever seen. It was built in 1571 and was originally called the Church of Manila. It wasn't until 1579 that it would become a cathedral. Inside the church are seven (7) chapels that also function as mini galleries.

It is one of the most interesting spots that you can see inside Intramuros. Religious or not, you might want to check it out when you go on an Intramuros tour.

Had a quick visit around the cathedral while having my call in Intramuros.

The renovation of the whole cathedral is a great job. They made it modernized by placing flat screens, having CCTVs all over the area, clean and spacious restrooms, and maximizing the whole cathedral.

But I miss the smell of the old church. 128524

I just have one thing, may tulo sa right corner of the cathedral. They should have that fix right away.
