“Why would others love this place?” is the question I was posed with as I start writing this review for The Manila Hotel.

Let me answer this with another question: why wouldn’t you?

We all know that the journey going to this part of the metro isn’t exactly something anyone would love — or like even! 🤣 But once you take a step inside their lobby, it seems as if that 2-hour drive from QC was worth it.

Here’s a walkthrough from when we arrived to when we were able to finally settle down in our rooms:

128663 Valet parking - The Manila Hotel is not your typical, high rise hotel, so much so that once you arrive at their driveway, you wouldn’t even notice that it’s already a hotel you’re driving in to (the facade looks more like an event tent venue, if you’d ask me). You’ll be greeted by, of course, K-9s that are as cute as they are lean and mean security machines — i love dogs so all dogs are cute, don’t judge! 128021 You can opt to park your car at the back of the hotel or let valet do the job for only P100, flat rate! Kuya driver guy was also super nice and greeted us with a smile.

10024 Lobby - once you enter the premises, you are greeted by ushers and usherettes wearing that classic Filipiniana and Barong with somewhat a more modern twist — and they look lovely. Apart from the beautiful faces, The Manila Hotel is known for their Lobby Lounge. Picture this: marbled walls lined with gold and glitter, huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling that locks in the soothing sound of the piano playing classic melodies, mirrors reflecting all the gold, turning your reflection into gold as well. 128525 I actually don’t know if that made sense or even tickled your imagination one bit but you get the point. See photo 128514

🛏 Rooms - yes, we got 2 rooms. 1 for my OG family and 1 for the adopted sons aka the boyfriends. 128113🏼128104🏽 Both rooms had your usual: robes, room slippers, TV, bed, comfort room, tub, safe, coffee/tea. The unusual: TV in the comfort room (yup, you get to watch while nature calls 127811), JBL speakers, free fruits, free office/school supplies (see photo), and the view of Intramuros from the boyfriends’ room and the view of Manila Bay from our room. 128674 and for less than P10k/night/room, you get to experience all of that plus breakfast at Cafe Ilang-Ilang (review up next!)

You’re also entitled free use of the gym, pool with a bar, sauna and jacuzzi (I couldn’t upload photos of those cos 10-photo limit 128557) — and we were able to make use of all of that during our overnight stay... super sulit HAHAHA

The Manila Hotel offers you a not-so-typical staycation in the metro. Staying in this hotel gives off a somewhat historical vibe to it, making it feel like you aren’t in 2017 Metro Manila. If I felt like going on a staycation, I’d make The Manila Hotel my first choice, no doubt.

Celebrated our anniversary here and our stay was super awesome! Indeed a 1108811088110881108811088 hotel. The main reason I loved this hotel is the interior design. Even though its a heritage hotel, the hotel is well maintained and all corners has a Filipino touch to it. All staffs are very friendly and accommodating. 128513

We got the room with the golf course and Intramuros view. Plus there's a bath tub! 128525128525128525

Cafe Ilang-Ilang's breakfast buffet is also nice. More choices than any other hotel breakfast buffet I've been to.

Thanks for a memorable stay Manila Hotel! 10084

It's the boyfriend's birthday weekend! So we booked ourselves a room because we found a really good deal 128513

Love the interior of the hotel room (took a photo after lying down)! It has that Filipiniana feel to it! Good job to the hotel management because they were able to maintain the hotel well! We also got to check in before 2pm. Staff are very accommodating and nice 9786 excited to try tomorrow's breakfast buffet! 128525

Will definitely come back here for another staycation 9786

Christmas season is the most wonderful time of the year127876

My family and I went to the Manila Hotel, one of the oldest and popular hotel in Manila located along Roxas Boulevard. Really curious about this hotel for its nostalgic elegant ambience. I've been to a lot of hotels in the Philippines for afternoon tea so this time before the 2016 ends we finally tried it last Dec 11.

Glad we made it as we arrived almost 6pm in the evening and the time for afternoon tea is almost about to end. But the staff are so accommodating.

The hotels was filled with Christmas decors plus that beautiful giant Christmas tree near the lobby lounge. Guests will be happy to have picture taking plus there was a piano at the center and there was a solo performer that day who plays Xmas songs at the piano , you will be serenaded while eating at the lobby lounge.

Among my afternoon tea adventures on different hotels, the Manila hotel is unique as it is the only hotel who offers a lavish Afternoon tea 9749127856

Native delicacies were served like Bibingka and Puto bumbong and other pastries. Then for the tea we got the peppermint and green tea Twinnings.

The presentation of the afternoon tea on our table was really nice 128525 service was excellent too.

Christmas village is an attraction here also every Christmas season that you shouldn't miss , kids and kids at heart will like it10084

For the holidays, we only booked El Nido for the New Year's but didn't have anything else planned for Christmas. So, a week before Christmas Day, my dad asked me to book for rooms at Manila Hotel since he has the Privilege Card for discounts. We were also hoping to have a meal at the hotel's buffet restaurant, Cafe Ilang-Ilang, to celebrate my youngest sister's birthday.

Booking was fairly easy. If you have the Privilege Card, simply call up the hotel and ask if they have any available rooms for the promo you want to avail. Initially I wanted to book for the complimentary overnight stay but they didn't have any more rooms available for that voucher. The hotel reservation staff did however suggest that they have rooms available for a special rate and that rate was pretty cheap. It was cheaper than the special rate voucher - Php 10,000 for 2 nights per room. Since the rate was acceptable, we went for the 2 nights and checked in on December 23.

Upon arrival at the hotel, the parking was full so we had to request for a valet service. Since we were staying in the hotel, we got free parking after validating the ticket. But we had to still pay the valet service of Php 100. Not bad. 128077🏼

Check in took a while since there were quite a number of people checking in too. They also had a hard time looking for 3 rooms on the same floor for us so we had to wait for a while. But other than that, the process was pretty smooth.

During check in, you have an option to settle the bill upon check in or only when you check out. I chose the first option to avoid the hassle of signing a lot of stuff during check out. 128556 They also asked if we wanted to pay a deposit per room so that we can simply charge any purchases, like room service or meals at their restaurants, to the room. I opted to skip that option and simply paid for any meals we had directly to the restaurant. 128541

The hotel rooms are pretty great. They have almost everything! We were surprised when our room had an ironing board and an iron to iron our clothes. The beds are soft and they have so much pillows!! 128525 The hotel and all the rooms are also equipped with free Wi-Fi and the receptionist will give you the hotel password upon check in.

Their phones are Cisco phones!! 128561 I normally see these kinds of phones in IT companies or tech companies (well cos I work in one) 128514. It's actually pretty cool but also worrisome because when you dial a room's number, the checked in guest's name will show up. 128517

One thing I hope they would upgrade is the alarm clock/speakers. They have this old model of iPhone compatible speakers and clock in one. But since Apple changed the old connector to a lightning cable type, new iPhones don't fit in it and we can't use the speakers. 128531

We LOVE their health club center and pool!! 100841008410084️ We stayed in Manila Hotel last 2015 too but I only went for a swim and didn't visit the gym. But we were desperate to get rid of as much fats as we could before heading to El Nido, so we had to hit the gym too.

The gym's pretty busy during the morning (right after breakfast) but is quite empty in the afternoon (after lunch, right before dinner). In the afternoon, everyone's pretty much in the pool. 127946🏻

On the second floor of the gym are the changing rooms, showers and lockers. They also have a wet area which consists of a sauna room, a steam room and a really hot jacuzzi. 128525 So, if you're feeling a bit lazy or need a bit of time before you do anything strenuous, go for a quick dip in the jacuzzi first! 128077🏼 They advised us to wear swimwear in the jacuzzi and the sauna and steam rooms, but if you're comfortable being naked under a towel, it's fine too.

The hotel lobby in itself is a wonderful feature of the hotel. 128525 Every Christmas, they decorate the whole place with a Gingerbread house up front and a tree in the middle. They also have a Christmas village on one wing. It's such a beautiful sight! Doesn't matter if you're staying in the hotel or just having lunch or dinner at Cafe Ilang-Ilang, make sure to take photos at the lobby! Their Christmas tree was super cute! It had their mascot bear in the hotel staff uniforms. 128525 So adorable!!

We had a lovely time during our recent stay at The Manila Hotel.

Another much needed staycation for us to recharge. After traversing metro traffic, we entered a holiday wonderland! The heat, the ill-mannered drivers, and the narrow, bumpy roads were forgotten... The Christmas decorations instantly put me in a festive mood-- like everyone else in the lobby. Smiling faces all around. We encountered long lines because the bar ops were still ongoing that week. No matter, we both didn't mind waiting in such a comfortable environment. We also had to wait for them to finish cleaning the room with a king-sized bed that we requested. The makeshift Santa's workshop and attractive Christmas trees were great distractions in the meantime. Not to mention the super fast wifi connection of the hotel.

We went up to the room once we were given the go signal. We loved our room! I think they renovated since the last time I checked in. The room still had that classic Filipiniana feel-- using capis accents & wooden furniture with intricate designs. However, it didn't feel stuck in the past since it was completely updated and equipped with modern comforts. Though the rest of the room was very nice, the carpet was noticeably worn and stained. We didn't mind that, though it felt out of place.

If the bedroom was classic, the bathroom was definitely modern. Clean sparkling marble, huge tub, spacious rain shower and it's own TV made the bathroom enticing. Not to mention the luxurious toiletries provided. I knew I would really enjoy the bath I planned to take later that night.

We went down to explore the hotel, only to find out that they literally decorated every corner. Near the shops, they were hosting a movie screening as part of their Christmas Village. We were a little late for the film (Home Alone was showing), but not for the popcorn and the board games after!

After exploring and some dinner, we prepared for bed. We noticed that they weren't able to replace the robes when they hurriedly cleaned the room. The robes were delivered once requested, but these were not as fluffy as I'd imagined. Not a problem. A nice long bath with warm water and a sheet mask was all it took to knock me out. Literally. The bed was sooooo comfortable! I slept for almost 10 hours straight. That was definitely a luxury!128522

My fiancé brought up another hotel we previously stayed at, which promised that you would have the best nights' sleep you ever had. They even offered your choice of pillow-- down, feathers, etc. They should really scrap that advertisement-- not true at all. I think THIS was the best sleep I've had in a hotel... Well, locally and in recent years anyway. They provided so many pillows and the sheets were so luxurious. The mattress was awesome!!! I felt so refreshed and recharged when I woke up. Only problem: you wouldn't want to get out of the bed!128525

Since we started the day late, we were unable to take a dip in the pool. Plus my personal physician wouldn't allow me because I was still nursing a cold. (Pasaway much) So we just walked around the garden after took our time at brunch. Separate reviews for dinner (Lobby Lounge) and brunch (Cafe Ilang-Ilang).

Checking out was a breeze. It was the long line for the valet that took a lot of time. We bought fruit cake from Santa's workshop while waiting. Just in case you are curious, the fruit cake was pretty good. We had a great time just relaxing during our staycation. A wonderful escape at an iconic establishment.

Thank you Rian K for the info!128522 Merry christmas everyone!!!127876

Started working here last July 2015 and now it's my one year and five months. What can i say about Manila Hotel? 🤔 For me, this hotel is the definition of philippine history because it was the oldest hotel in our country that offers a world's class service, vintage to modern interiors. Over the years manila hotel continuously provides the best services and amenities for truly memorable experience. 10084

Cafe Ilang Ilang - It was launch as a three period meal buffet. It boast a nine live cooking stations and features a wide array of local and international cuisines.

Mabuhay Palace - A chinese restaurant inside the hotel.

Tap Room/ Lobby lounge - If you want to chill with your friends you can sit at the tap room to watch the band as they perform their songs for you.

Swimming Pool - our pool is located near the bay, you can also have drinks at the pool bar and relax.

Spa & Fitness Center - It offers a five star relaxation experience to its guests. And to complete their rejuvenation and wellness interests next to the spa is the manila hotels health club.

Mcarthur Suite - Just ask some GSO at the lobby to take you on a tour on the 15th floor which is Mcarthur suites and they'll tell you all about the history of the Manila Hotel.

Aside from the things that i've said, The Manila Hotel is just a walking distance to Luneta Park and a one ride to Intramuros, Fort Bonifacio, National Museum and Manila Cathedral Church if you really want to experience the history of the Philippines. 🇵🇭

Old, elegance and grandeur. Perfect words to describe The Manila Hotel. One of the oldest hotels in the country. And I wholeheartedly believe that it is an underrated classy hotel that could give most 5-star hotels around a run for their money.

Time and time again, my family would spend holidays or just an afternoon rest here. Be it spending Christmas Eve, celebrating New Year's Eve, or just a lazy Sunday dip in their pool, lounging and sipping fresh mango juice. This beloved hotel has been much a part of my family's go-to place as it is a part of my childhood. There have been countless changes made ever since I could remember, but one thing remains. This hotel is a symbol in Metro Manila.

The moment you walked in, you'd be greeted by their impressive lobby. From the grand chandeliers with low lights, to the soft plush sofas and seats, it has a certain charm to it that calls to you. 10084 They've been around for 104 years and how they'd still be able to maintain the quality of service they provide and the grandness of the hotel is beyond me.

I love how they're just proudly Pinoy. Hotel staff uniform proudly resembles that of the Barong Tagalog, as are the furnitures made of Narra. And! Don't even get me started on the service, it's just impeccable service. They have their way of doing things that will ensure you get to have a very great time during your stay.

And the food, oh the food is amazing! Though I've only tried Café Ilang-Ilang (must try their buffet!) and their deli shop. The macarons from their deli shop is to die for! I love the food here I couldn't help myself everytime it's bordering on gluttony! 128513

One more month to go and it's the holidays again, cannot wait to be back here! 10084

Old but classy. That's what will come to your mind when you see Manila Hotel's lobby. As I have mentioned from my previous post, it's been years since the last time I checked in here. I seriously can't believe how they managed to maintain its grandeur all these years. The lobby exudes elegance, from the courteous hotel attendants down to the beautiful chandeliers and comfy seats and even the scent. Everything just feels so splendid. I don't know if anybody would agree with me but I think Manila Hotel can give Sofitel a good run for its money when it comes to their hotel lobby. Probably it's because of their soft lights, music coming from the pianist and the overall facade that makes one feeling like a VIP being in this hotel.

Last week, my family decided to just stay in the city instead of going somewhere for holy week. My mom chose Manila Hotel, well, because Diamond Hotel and Sofitel were fully booked. We went there Saturday around 12:50pm after we had our lunch. Checking in was a bit uncomfortable because there were long lines at the reception. Mom was asking for rooms with verandas but the guy at the front desk said that it was not available. He, however, offered rooms with bay view. After settling the payment, mom was told to wait for at least an hour because housekeeping folks were still preparing our rooms. There goes my other entry for Lobby Lounge where we spent our time waiting (Hello yummy bibingka, I still can't get over you). More than an hour passed and finally, we were told that we can go to our rooms already.

The rooms are spacious and has this rustic feel. In contrast to the splendor of their lobby, the rooms are just plain but neatly arranged. For others, this might be a turnoff, but for me it's okay. For as long as we are not too cramped inside and boy, the bathroom is big too! You know, if the room is spacious and there is a tub in the bathroom, I can already shut up. Provided that everything is functioning well, of course. And oh, did I mention that their toiletries are Asprey brand? Smells heavenly! I had a bay view indeed. But it's not that marvelous as what you can see from Sofitel or Diamond Hotel. I'm not complaining though. There was a plate of fruits ( 2 apples and an orange) waiting for us when we came inside nga pala. Manila Hotel has only two bed options: king size or single bed. My advice is to always choose the former. Single beds are too smaaaaallllll! You can't roll over and savour the moment! Lol. Pillows, I literally went crazy here. They give so many soft pillows!! I think one single bed got 5 pillows on it. Beat that?!

And because we stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights, we made sure that we had profusely used our privileges. Kung pwede lang siguro magreklamo yung pool and lounge chairs, baka sinuka na kami sa kakababad namin. Hehe! Kidding aside, I like their pool. It's wide enough for everyone who wants to take a dip in it. It's not mababaw too. They have a deep portion, I think it's over 6ft? Water is just right. Not too cold and not too warm. There's a pool bar where you can order drinks while swimming. They have this happy hour (3pm-6pm ata) where you can avail the buy 1 take 1 of some of the drinks. Feeling pretty ako while sipping my mango juice and listening to their music while nagtatampisaw sa tubig. Lol! When I got tired, hilata lang ako sa cocoon-like lounge chair. It was cute, my favorite actually. The boyfriend abused their gym too. Haha. My parents, well, I don't know ano trip nila but they just stayed inside the room. Lumalabas lang pag kakain na!

Food was great too. Manila Hotel is known to have delicious food selection and I can attest to that. It can be pricey though. Be sure to prepare at least P2000 for every meal for two. Cafe Ilang-Ilang has a good buffet spread while Champagne Room is my favorite for its romantic feels! Mabuhay Palace serves chinese food but pricier than usual chi resto. If you're on a budget, there's a restaurant nearby. You can walk from the hotel going to Harbor View. It's located beside Hotel H2O. Or another option is to ride Manila Hotel's shuttle service and go to Robinson's Place or Mall of Asia. If I'm not mistaken, they also offer shuttles going to Lucky Chinatown Mall and Glorietta. Just call the front desk and have your name listed.

Hotel services are okay. The boyfie had a minor accident in the parking lot. The guard was quick to "respond". Anyhow, we were asked to go to the clinic at the 2nd floor and have his ankle checked. The nurse was attentive enough naman and helpful. Maybe the only reason why I can't say that they have superb customer service is because their housekeeping staff are not that efficient. I requested for an extra foot rag in the afternoon and di dumating until gabi when I called them again. The following day, I requested naman for a pitcher of water and ganun din, di dumating. So there. Regardless of these small issues, I am still and will always be in awe. I love Manila Hotel!

Bonus! Azkals were there. Eyecandies, anyone?? Sooooo handsome!! Buti na lang I kept my composure or else baka inaway ako ni boyfie! Hahahaha

Delicious ice cream cake from Manila Hotel!! As a gift to myself, I wanted to have a souvenir from here and so, I bought an ice cream cake!

This cake is not an ordinary cake, what makes it very special and one of a kind is how this cake tastes like kakanin or kalamay. The chocolate surrounding it is what makes it delicious because it tastes like kutsinta which is my favorite!

The cake is made from Chiffon cake and I loved it! Every layer has a filling and it's not too sweet. Also, it has a generous amount of filling!

This cake is a modern version of the kalamay that we're having every occasion and it's a must try!

Although the price is pretty expensive ( I bought this for 900+), this cake is worth the risk! No second thoughts of course.

Lamb Chop and Parmesan Crusted Salmon Duo in Pinot Sauce w/ Saffron Risotto

"FAAAAANCY meeting you alone in the crowd, couldn't help but notice you smile.. While everybody else is going about. Can we just stop and talk awhile?" LA LA LA LALALA LALA

This dish can really literally make you sing. I just did. xD

Can we just stop... just stop, stop for awhile. Its so good, I don't want to miss every classic taste of this dish.

But the texture of both meats were dry and hard but believe me when I say everything that's on this plate is incredibly tasty! Overall, I still fell in love w/ it.

Then, 5 bottles of Black Label pour down the drain not long afterwards.

As a cook, the more cuisine we try the more experience we gain. Its our resume. :)

Therefore, this is a one for the books. Cheers!

I attended a seminar here 2 weeks ago and it was my first time to be here. I loved how the history within this hotel has been preserved, as one can see as you step in into their lounge. The hotel is rich in beauty which is different from the other hotels which bring out a modern vibe.
