One item in my bucket list is to visit Mt. Mayon. I’ve always been fascinated by its perfect shape as seen in postcards and history books. I was able to visit Albay early this year and the experience was one for the books.

My friends and I searched for the top hotels in the area to match our much-awaited getaway. Our first choice was Misibis Bay Resort but it’s just way above our budget for this trip. We then agreed to book at The Oriental Legazpi. One main reason for our choice was their infinity pool with the view of Mayon Volcano. It’s just so instagrammable.

I’ll review this hotel in 4 parts – service, room, facilities, and dining.

I’ll start with my experience on how I appreciate their service. First, they have RT airport transfers which I found very convenient. Legazpi Airport is relatively not too far from the city proper. However, if you don’t have a private car during your travel, it might be a hassle to commute to your hotel with all your bags and extra stuff.

Upon entering the lobby, the guard welcomed us warmly. It was such a nice gesture. The receptionists did the same. They were all smiles while assisting us. Their check in procedure was relatively fast and they offered us welcome drinks which for me were refreshing.

The hotel staff assisted us to our room. He was so polite and welcoming. My friends and I thought that they are trained to be that way – to always smile and greet every guest "good morning/afternoon/evening" every time.

It was a pretty nice start of our travel to explore Bicol.

I booked their Deluxe Queen with Mayon view with buffet breakfast good for 3 people, one night only. Including taxes, fees, and other charges, the total room cost was Php 6120. For me this was quite a steal considering all their facilities and prime location.

Actually, we availed their Early Booking Promotion. Since we booked our room one month in advance, we had 10% off our bill. 20% will be deducted had we booked 2 months in advance.

Room size is 36 sqm, with free wifi access, free use of pool and gym, discounts on spa services, and discounts on their restaurants. The room was clean and has a spacious bathroom. It has a nice television, complimentary bottled waters, coffee, and tea, and the usual slippers, towels, etc. It also has a small balcony which I enjoyed as I can see the infinity pool and Mt. Mayon from there.

My only concern that time was the CR lock. I’m not sure why but it was not working during our stay. We were 2 boys and 1 girl in the room (hi Cindy S, Edison A) and using the toilet could have been a problem. Good thing I trust them so much that it was okay for me to leave the door unlocked while I’m taking a bath.

The Oriental Hotel in Legazpi has a lot to offer to its guests. They have function rooms if you’re going to celebrate something there. Their Grand Ballroom has 720 banquet capacity. They also have smaller function rooms good for 100 to 250 guests.

One of its pride is their infinity pool. To be honest, it’s really beautiful. It has a stunning view of Mt. Mayon. If you’re lucky enough that the peak is not surrounded by clouds, you can have your most IG-worthy photo here. I’ve seen a lot of Instagram photos in this pool and all are amazing. I actually planned of getting a lot of selfpics there in my board shorts only (yak, kidding) but Mayon was hiding in a bunch of clouds during this visit. We tried night swimming instead.

The lobby of the hotel is very big with elegant and sophisticated design. It also features Filipino art, culture and tradition as it has a lot of Filipino-made art pieces positioned in every corner of the place. I also love how bright the entire lobby is even at night.

It also has spa and fitness center, but we haven’t tried going there. Instead, we stayed at their comfortable couches outside and grabbed a few drinks. The exterior of the hotel is as photogenic as its interiors. Its location is quite elevated so you can have a view of the city during night time.

Let me just say that I loved all the food we had during this trip that I literally gained a few kilos for only 4 days.

Their breakfast buffet was really really good. I’m not exaggerating. Well, they have at least few of my favorites. They have unlimited beef tapa, bacon, eggs, pancakes, fruits, and a lot Filipino dishes. It’s too much for a breakfast buffet for me. Their tapa was so delicious that I had extra plate for it. They also served fresh milk and different kinds of cereals. They also have dessert station with a wide variety of cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes, souffles, candies, and chocolates. It was heaven. My friends and I stayed here for 2.5 hours. Good thing we went to the restaurant early.

During the night, we tried their lobby café and ordered a slice of oreo cheesecake and another slice of carrot cake. I prefer the latter though I’m not a fan of it. Their coffee was too sweet for me.

In case you want to chill and grab a few drinks before sleeping, you may check their Volcanic Grill located at the same floor where the infinity pool is. They serve seafood and steak here as well as bottles of beer and wine. Though we haven’t tried ordering, we checked this place out during the night and just stayed in the pool side.

Overall, I had a great time at this hotel. I love the place, the pool, their breakfast buffet and most importantly, the service. Everyone is just so polite and welcoming. I wish we stayed longer here, but we had other plans during our Bicol trip. If ever I’ll visit Albay any time soon, I’m pretty sure that I’ll consider staying at this hotel again. Cheers!

Although they offer a great view of Mt. Mayon over the pool area, and considering this is the fanciest hotel you can find in Legazpi, the more I found staying here a bit disappointing.

Here's why:

1. Elevators were very hard to operate. You're supposed to touch or swipe the buttons but for some reason it oftentimes doesn't do the trick.

2. The room we were in had an off, dingy smell. I can't quite pinpoint what it was but I'm guessing it could be the carpet.

3. The hotel is only 2 yrs old (from what I've been told) but I don't feel it's maintained well enough. Even the holder where they put the toiletries were already rusting.

4. No bidet by the toilet but at least you can request for a small balde and tabo (Yeah I'm Filipino like that)

5. The towels were horrible. Dirty white levels and they don't smell so good. Please introduce them to Chlorox or Downy. But those need to be replaced, seriously.

6. Balcony was dirty, and no chairs nor table where you can tambay. Whhhy.

7. Transportation is difficult. The hotel sits atop a hill and arranging for hotel transfer is super expensive. Hard to find a cab in the city, plus they overcharge once they find they need to take you to Oriental.

8. Several instances where we had no electricity. Three times to be exact during our 2-night stay. They weren't long and they have generators but, again, still.

The place has a lot of potential. Buffet breakfast was pwede na; hope they'd just do something more to improve the facility.

9k total for a 2-night stay for three (it was 7k but it's 1k additional per adult per night for extra bed) - mountain view.

*There was a bridal photoshoot on our second day so the wedding dress in photo is not part of their display, okay. Haha.

Scenery is breathtaking especially if you got a room facing Mayon. However, I find their rooms too small and their facilities too old. Pool is dirty and their elevator is not properly working. We had to take the stairs in going up and down. Buti na lang, their staff is really apologetic about the elevator mishap. They're kind and helpful too, probably the most smiling faces attendants that I've ever encountered. And that actually made our stay less annoying.

I had problems checking in because we had to wait about 30 minutes even if it was already 3pm when we arrived. Apparently our rooms weren't ready yet or they had trouble locating reservations. But whatever it was, I was disappointed. On top of that, their elevator was going crazy and we had a hard time pressing the floor's buttons on where we wanted to go. Was stuck inside for about 2 minutes because it wasnt working after we pushed the button multiple times. It was so weird...

The hotel's sitting on top of a hill with an awesome view of the Mayon Volcano. The staff are great, the rooms are so-so (reasonable for the price), and the food is good at the Jasmine restaurant :-)

Pardon the selfie but i just I llloooooooooovvvveeeeee this hotel on a hill, i just have to be in it! :) Its my favourite spot in Legaspi. The view is superb where the great Mayon will great you every morning. I think its the top of the line hotel in the area, and its infinity pool is a landmark in itself. Staff were friendly, however breakfast food was so-so. Rates won't break the bank. They also have a sizeable lobby filled with expats and alta locals -which for me speaks a lot about the place's credibility. The rooms were well appointed, but always request for those with the view of mayon. Legaspi also is such destination - a charming jewel of the south filled with history, culture, and bicolano food :)

On our recent work trip to Bicol, we booked a room at the lovely The Oriental Hotel, which is a hill-top hotel overlooking Mayon. The hotel stands out against the sky, with its modern and sleek design. I immediately loved it!

Renovations are being done to parts of the hotel so check-in is done at the concierge table instead of in the main hall.

The patio view of Mayon is quite wonderful. But so was our room view of Mayon. It's definitely worth spending on, getting a room that faces the mountain, because you also get a great view of the city. Rooms are quite spacious, though it feels a little like a really nice inn. Bathrooms are big, standard rooms have big showers.

We decided to take advantage of the pool, if only for half an hour. Evening pool means not a lot of other guests, and not much of a view too. My only problem here was that bathrooms to the pool are quite a distance away, lighting in the area is horrible on the way, and lights to the bathrooms are open so there's a ton of insects flying about.

Breakfast buffet at the restaurant is quite good, though I couldn't take full advantage of it because I wasn't feeling well. Servers are attentive enough. They are really nice though.

Sadly, work came first so we could only check-in in the evening, and we left early morning of the following day, so we couldn't take full advantage of the amenities or go around the hotel.

Oh, pet peeve of the trip was the Schneider elevator. I really don't like this brand of elevator because the touchboard for the floors don't always light up properly. I had a couple of instances where I pressed the button a few times, only to find out that we weren't moving at all. It looks so high-tech, but doesn't seem at all practical or convenient.

Hotel was okay given it's relatively new and is centrally located. But service needs to improve. It's like their staff doesn't go "the extra mile" for their customers. But on the upside, their food was tasty and affordable.

This is quite a late review, but better late than never right? Last April, my mom, two brothers and I traveled to the Bicol region. Our destination – Legazpi City!

We stayed at The Oriental and just outside our room, we can see the beautiful Mayon Volcano. After we checked in, we took pictures with the majestic Mayon right away. It’s a good thing that we did, because that was the only time during our stay that the sky was clear and there were no clouds blocking the volcano’s tip. It was a great sight to see – Mayon’s perfectly shaped cone! Our room was also in the same floor as the infinity pool, which was awesome.

Regarding the complimentary buffet breakfast, well, the choices are limited but the food is good. The bread here is delicious!

The daing (dried fish) tastes good, not too salty and really crunchy. Ginataang Kalabasa is a little spicy and the taste of that coco milk lingers in the mouth you'll want to indulge more. Great eating experience. Need to improve on food selection though, very limited.

The Oriental Legazpi has a stunning view! They also have a really nice infinity pool with the Mayon Volcano as the view. The rooms are really big and comfortable. Their bathroom is clean and the shower is relaxing! The staff are nice and friendly. As for the food, thel also offer free breakfast buffet though choices are limited to 5 viands. Oriental Legazpi has a minimalist design with white as their main color. It's really nice but sometimes it looks empty. But i still loooove the hotel. Would definitely go back for pleasure and not for work next time :)
