This review is a couple of months late... but awhile back, I had the chance to spend a few days at Peacock Garden w/ my family. Before going, I read up on what to expect and saw a lot of people raving about their food so I had high expectations going in. While I wasn't blown away, the food wasn't too shabby either. A solid effort. While I'd love to go back cause I find myself sometimes missing the ambiance and the feel of the place itself, I'm sorry to say I don't find myself missing the cuisine. So 5 stars for the place, but 3 stars for the food.

As an early birthday present to ourselves, a friend (whose birthday is a day before mine) and I decided to fly to Bohol and spend a relaxing weekend at The Peacock Garden Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa. We had no other agenda but to rest, catch up on some sleep and enjoy the feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle that is our everyday life; and boy did we succeed.

The Peacock Garden is located on top of a hill, a few minutes drive from Tagbilaran City. They have an unobstructed view of the sea below and a wonderful view of the horizon. Perfect for watching the sunrise and most especially the sunsets which are NOT to be missed. The resort has a nice European feel, noticeable in its design and architecture as well as their food.

As we were checking in, they offered us their signature pinakwan shake as refreshment, which I very much appreciated as I was parched from our flight. Our room had a great view of the pool and the sea. I loved waking up and sitting in our own private balcony watching the sun rise and listening to the faint music of roosters crowing in the distance. I would also like to note that their rooms are very clean and spacious.

The beds were so soft and comfortable that it beckoned me to lie down and take a short nap. We also had a large flat screen with multiple local and cable channels and an iphone/ipad dock at our disposal. As I entered the bathroom and shower, I was pleasantly surprised by the little L’Occitane shower set (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion). Guys might not appreciate this detail, but us girls like to be wooed by the little amenities.

Since my friend and I had no plans of leaving the resort. We took all our meals at the resort’s main restaurant, the Old Heidelberg. The Old Heidelberg specializes in German and European fare. We sampled most of the dishes on their menu including the veal sausage with sautéed potatoes, grilled pork medallions, giant prawns on a bed of mushroom rice, bread dumplings with emmenthal cheese, ceasar salad, black forest ham salad, among others. Special mention has to be made about their fried camembert with honey, jam and roasted cashews. This was so good that we ordered it once every day.

The dessert menu is something not to be overlooked either. The Old Heidelberg serves delicious homemade ice cream and sorbets in varying flavours. Apart from their ice cream, they also have desserts such as chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce and apple pie ala mode which were my personal favourites.

The Peacock Garden has an amazing spa with different packages that will suit anyone. It boasts of a heated Jacuzzi and a steam room. My friend and I had the foot massage on our first night. It worked better than a sleeping pill because as soon as our heads hit the pillow, we were dead to the world. The next night, we signed up for the full body massage and aromatherapy plus body scrub. Every time I exit the double doors of the Fontana Aurelia Spa, I felt like a new person! So relaxed that no worry in the world could ever burst my bubble.

The service was excellent. The staff is well trained and very accommodating and thoughtful. I had a teeny tiny misadventure which landed me in the emergency room on my first day in Bohol. The staff and management was so concerned that they sent up a bouquet of flowers to wish me a speedy recovery! That almost brought tears to my eyes. This is further evidence that they treat their guests’ comfort and experience with utmost priority.

I must say that this trip was a great way to start our birthday celebration. I don’t think anything else will be able to top this. I just wish I could upload more photos for my looloo review so you can all see how beautiful it was at the resort.

Elegant design, great service, but limited choices when it comes to food selection.
