They have a beautiful view of the Makati CBD skyline and the Ayala Triangle. I find the drinks affordable. Seats are comfy, no extra charge just to occupy a table.

The Penthouse Beer is Joe’s Brew.

Service was great, we were well taken cared of.

People close to me know that I'm far from being tagged as a party person. Born as a certified tita (aunt), I have now graduated as a full-fledged Lola(grandmother) of Manila. But such did not discourage me from visiting a Great Gatsby themed bar that offers a magnificent view of the city. Okay, it was also because I was intrigued with its bar chows. The foodie remains more influential than the lola in me.

Hello, The Penthouse 8747!

The place, as it is aptly named, is located on the topmost floor of Lepanto building. Though the lift would not bring you all the way to the bar's main entrance, you just need to take one flight up to reach the reception adorned with gold accents and chandelier.

We were warmly greeted by the front hostess who assisted us inside where we were cheerfully welcomed by Krisha, The Penthouse 8747's Marketing Associate. She gave us a few minutes to admire the beautiful night view before we stuffed ourselves with some refreshing cocktails and mouthwatering dishes.

We started the night with some pretty cocktails called Jellous Lover (PHP350) while listening to some music crowd born in the 80s and early 90s would appreciate.

The light bubbly had a nice light taste perfect for a long sober catch up session with friends. And to reward one's self for finishing a glass, you'd get to taste the delightful jello on the bottom.

Savory dishes were soon served and we sampled Crab Cakes (PHP470), Shrimp Pesto (PHP370) and Seafood Flatbread (PHP460).

I loved that the crab cakes have generous crab meat stuffing. There was not a single bite with just breading. The flavorful shredded shell fish was made even more delightful with alfalfa, mayo and lemon juice.

The Seafood Flatbread had a light taste and perfect for those who do not like strong flavors. But for those who want to bring out further the divine taste of shrimps and mussels, request for some chili oil and drizzle it on top of your pizza slice.

Shrimp Pesto was the favorite during our visit. The rich nutty and herby taste of pesto was heavenly. The al dente pasta and fresh shrimps balanced the sauce and together created a dish all pesto lovers should try. I was told that it would be best to drizzle some lemon juice on the pasta and they were right! The contrast between the creamy pesto and citrus lemon made this dish not cloying at all. I'll surely request for lemon every time I order pesto.

And since The Penthouse 8747 experience is not complete with just one cocktail, we also sampled Fiftish Shades of Pink (PHP280) and Sweetish OM (PHP280).

Both drinks were quite good too. But I liked Sweetish OM more as it was more refreshing and not as strong as the former.

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I will definitely be back with girl friends with me for a Girls' Night Out, Titas of Manila version.

Tip: It's best to Uber or Grab your way to The Penthouse 8747 as the building has very few parking slots for guests.

A weekend night out with friends at this Great Gatsby Themed Restaurant.

Located in the penthouse of Lepanto Building, 8747 Paseo de Roxas, Salcedo Village, Makati City, Penthouse 8747 is a Great Gatsby Themed gastropub. It also gives you a wonderful view of the Makati skyline, especially in the evening. I love the ambiance of the place in the evening. It's very sophisticated and they have an in-house DJ who plays different themes every day. The fun begins at sunset, however, I had to come at an earlier time because I needed the daylight in order to take better shots of the dishes.

Here are the dishes that we tried:

Asian Nachos. Wagyu. Salsa. Nachos. I like the plating and the generous amount of meat and salsa. It's sophisticated and tastes good compared to the nachos served as bar chows in other restaurants.

Chicken Parmigiano Wrap. Served with french fries, aioli sauce, and tomato catsup. This is one hearty meal.

Seafood Caponata. Served with buffalo sauce. I love how the ingredients were placed generously. I like the thin crust as well.

Shrimp Pesto Linguine. The sauce is pureed garlic and onion, with 50% basil and 50% malunggay as the greens. A healthy innovation. The shrimp is succulent and does not overpower the pesto paste. Delectable.

Jellous Lover. A mix of champagne and sparkling wine with alcohol jelly at the bottom. Goes well with the dishes that we had.

Great Escape. A mix of champagne, gin, fresh grapefruit juice, and rosemary syrup. Refreshing.

HD Photos on my blog.

Has anyone of you seen the movie or have read the book “The Great Gatsby”? It was a glimpse to all the glitz and glamor, and everything fancy back in the time of the roaring 20s. I was astonished to discover for myself a Gatsby themed place in Salcedo Village, Makati called The Penthouse 8747. Being here feels like time traveling back to a decade of stylish art deco, jazz bands, men in fancy suits and ties, sexy flappers, and huge glam parties.
This sophisticated bar is set on a roofdeck, and was originally launched as a speakeasy, back in 2016. One couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with its interiors, adorned with gold accents, posh velvet couches, and ornate chandeliers. There is an open air balcony area which can hold up to 200 people. Here, guests will have a magnificent view of the Makati Skyline and the Ayala Triangle Gardens. They also have a huge function hall that can accommodate even more people, used for holding major events and other special gatherings.

Their chef, Mike Genaro, whips up dishes that are a fusion between European and Caribbean cuisine. The food offerings that he preps up were all inspired by his trips as a former chef in a cruise line.

First up, we were able to try their uniquely plated Asian Nachos. The nacho chips or wanton wrappers were piled on top of one another, which is different from the usual ones we are usually served with. It’s definitely Instagrammable, so am giving them five stars for this creative presentation. However, you wouldn’t get to enjoy the nachos this way since most of the toppings were mostly placed on top, and the nachos on the lower part of the pile are just left plain. As for its taste, the sweetness of the mango gives a nice balance to the salty and spicy flavors of the nacho toppings.

I particularly liked their Chicken Parmigiana Wrap, which is chicken breast with parmigiana sauce and cumin, enveloped in soft tortilla. It was served with a side of fries with garlic aioli dip and ketchup. It could’ve been better grilled and not fried.

Then we had a go on their Seafood Caponata Flatbread Pizza. A caponata is a traditional Sicilian eggplant stew with olives, capers, and tomatoes, and is sauteed with sweet and sour sauce. This innovative offering was loaded with various toppings including zucchini, eggplant, olives, shrimp, and anchovies. It was packed with salty, sweet, and tangy flavors. They served the pizza with buffalo sauce but you wouldn’t need the latter anyway since it is already good enough on its own. The toppings are perfectly laid on a flatbread, and the crust just had the right wordpress thickness to it.

One of the highlights of our visit to The Penthouse 8747 was when we were served our glasses of cocktails. I had one Jellous Lover with me! Such a witty name they came up with for this special drink. I’m not really into drinking but I must admit that this one got me hooked. It’s actually sparkling champagne mixed with strawberry syrup, with rose wine jelly on the bottom of the glass. They even placed fresh strawberry and blueberry on the glass’s rim. It was sweet, light, and refreshing, and a nice treat to cap off an awesome dinner course. As for my companions, they had the Great Escape, a glass serving of champagne, gin, and fresh grape juice, added with a sprig of rosemary.

If you or your special someone are down for a fancy date night or you’re in the mood for a glam nightout with the squad, The Penthouse 8747 is the perfect go to place for drinks and dancing. Party and roll here like it’s the 1920s.
