Yesterday, we have an agenda to drop by craft shops after lunch and we thought Greenbelt 5 is the perfect place(it has Noteworthy, typo, and Craft Central). We're starving after our workshop at Raffles in Makati. And, Cel , is somekinda excited when she recalls that Toast Box has a branch there.

I had Nasi Goreng (P195) and a huge iced lemon tea (P40)

Nasi Goreng, is a fish paste flavored rice mixed with Chicken strips and cabagge slices. On the side, sunny side egg, 3 cucumber slices, malaysian fish paste and anchovies (dilis). They have generous serving. I was so full. But, what I love more is its so sumptious. The nasai goreng, is flavorful.. though not salty. I love it!

My lemon iced tea. Theirs, is brewed. Not the powder mix type that is too sweet. Its a legit tea, and topped with 2 slice of lemon. Better to squeeze the lemon, to taste like a real iced lemon tea.

Service: took abt 10 mins to serve. But its worth it. Food is of quality and satisfying

Price: fair enought. Reasonably priced128522

Food: i love it! Too bad i miss their cofee

I have been craving for laksa since last week and had been disappointed to learn that the SM Aura branch is currently under renovation. So I immediately chose to eat here when my friend Sandra Y and I were deciding where to eat at Greenbelt. I was gonna order laksa but saw that they now serve Chicken Curry, I had to try! Since I also love a good curry. Never mind that I have been craving for Laksa. 128517

A bit of wait for us starving titas but I don't mind. The serving is big! 2 pcs chicken and generous curry sauce. So yummy! Argh! It's so good! I had to finish my whole cup of rice so I can enjoy the whole serving. I was so full after! Truly worth my P249 (curry + rice). As always, iced lemon tea is good! Brewed and with slices of lemon for flavor. 128077🏼

When I was in Singapore I ate the most delicious curry ever at Toastbox. To my knowledge they do not offer the chicken curry here, but they do sell the curry paste in SG so I bought some to take home with me, when I cooked it and followed the instructions to the t it tasted exactly like the one in SG.

So when I saw the picture of the curry at TB GB5 I immediately ordered it. Lo and behold, it looked and tasted completely different from the Singapore version. Which is super weird because I was able to make it in my own home with TB curry paste. Wtf?

I was so disappointed.

Tha first photo TB GB5's curry, the second photo is TB SG's curry- that is how it should look and taste like!

If I had to choose my ultimate comfort food, it would be Hainanese Chicken Rice. It's a dish that I eat at least twice when I go to Singapore and even Hong Kong. It's a complete meal on its own and even though it seems simple, it's just so, so good when prepared right (as in the soup is the broth of the chicken, which is also used in the rice, and all that).

Sadly, there aren't many places here in Manila which has really good Hainanese Chicken Rice. Toast Box is one of the few. Had it for dinner tonight and yep, happy tummy. The chicken was soft and tender. Served rather warm, which I prefer over the cold ones I get from other restos. Generous serving too.

Paired my meal with Iced Barley Tea, which came with actual barley in the drink! I think it's an acquired taste but barley tea is one of my favorites so it's 128077🏻 for me!

Food was ok, ordered a kaya toast ala carte. It has coco jam and a thick slice of butter.

You can also smell the tea and coffee all over the place, it was really strong and soothing.

But place needs to be maintained or cleaned. Honestly, i am quite disgusted because the tables are not cleaned immediately and left damped, the floor is slippery and a lot of broken items inside. This used to be a really cute place to chill. The interior is all white so imperfections can easily be seen.

Service was ok.

One Friday lunch, after dropping by Maisen to find it filled, we went to Toast Box instead.

CHAR KWAY TEOW
Malaysian stir fried rice noodle which is quite good! 128077🏼 The sauce was evenly spread and it was quite a big serving. For over 200 pesos, it's not bad. It has shrimp too! 🦐

KAYA TOAST
I love their Kaya!! 10084️ Perfectly toasted bread, kaya spread and a thick slice of butter! 128525 Heaven!

I ate Nasi Goreng for lunch with teammates once here. Taste was almost the same as how they served it on an Air Asia flight, only that it's a rice mix, big serving, and a little salty for me. (I've got a bland palate from eating too much bland Korean food, though it's good for my health. 128517)
The Blueberry Cream Cheese Sandwich was really good!!! 128523 I ordered it to-go and ate it for mirienda. Next time I go to the grocery, I'm definitely buying a can of blueberry and cream cheese. Because Toastbox's is expensive. 128517128517128517

I have a lot of time to kill before ze 7pm soiree,  i decided to hang at Toastbox.  I believe this is my third visit.  Believe itnor not,  this is the first time i am scrutinising their interior.  Toastbox strictly adheres to the bed and breakfast-ish theme. White interiors make the joint look spacious.  Wood is predominant,  from the tables down to the chairs.  I'm digging the vintage phone on the wall, Alex would be proud.

Grub x Drink

¶ Blueberry with cream cheese combo with ice milk tea on the side.  The service was relatively fast,  didn't wait that long for the food to be served.   The milk tea os good,  not too sweet and has the perfect balance of milk x tea.   The toast is good too,   the combination of blueberry preserves and cream cheese is delicious.  Cream cheese tones down the sweetness of the jam.  The soft boiled eggs is dynamite!  Biased opinion as I love soft boiled eggs.  I get a sudden rush of obscene nostalgia everytime i eat soft boiled eggs.  It brings me back to my childhood days when Grams makes merienda.

I have yet to try their savory dishes.  I always get the same thing whenever i pay them a visit.  Maybe it's high time to veer away from the norm.  The laksa sounds promising.

I've only tried Toast Box twice before this visit. On my previous visits, I didn't have a photo!! (sayang reviews!)

I ordered their Laksa Noodle Soup just because I was craving for Laksa. Their soup was quite good. The noodles were okay too, but I did not like the bean sprouts! They weren't cooked but that's fine usually since they can be eaten raw, but I didn't like the taste of raw bean sprouts so I had a hard time picking them out. 128533

Also, service was quite bad on this day... We asked 3-4 times for our table to be cleaned up, but they only cleaned up the table when our food was ready to be served. 128528

After an afternoon of being tea-loving friends, we decided to stop by Toast Box, a cute little restaurant that I thought only serves toasts. Hey, the name was deceiving.

Hello, Toast Box.

N was drawn to this restaurant while we were trying to burn some calories (and J mesmerized by LEGO). I was pretty surprised that the restaurant has a lot of dishes to offer. They serve Nonya Laksa (PHP225), Hokkien Prawn Mee (PHP220), Chicken Sausage Noodles (PHP149), and a lot more aside from toasts. N, J and I ordered the three I just mentioned. We all added PHP30 to get a glass of Iced Barley.

The place was really packed when we entered but were lucky to spot an empty table right away. Despite the crowd, service was pretty quick. We were still digesting our brunch when our bowls arrived.

I wasn’t really able to taste the bowls of N and J as the itsy bitsy taste of their soup made me drink a third of my drink. It was SPICY! I have mentioned in my previous blogs that my tolerance for spicy food is pretty much non-existent. I try but there are just some I really could not eat as I’ll just cough throughout the whole meal.

Luckily, mine wasn’t spicy at all. It actually tasted a bit like La Paz Bachoy in some way. The broth’s taste was pretty light. The serving of the noodles was very generous. I wasn’t able to finish it as it seemed like there’s no end! The sausage was pretty okay. It wasn’t the ultra savory type which I think goes well with the noodles. For a price of PHP149, this is a great deal!

The iced barley was very refreshing too. It was a bit bland at first but if you stir your drink well, it’ll get a sweeter. I enjoyed munching on the barley. 128525

I’ll definitely be back for the toasts and coffee next time.

I love Toast Box because of their very neat setup - all white, white chairs, white tables, white walls.

I remember not liking their Kaya Toast, idk why. But I do love their "Asian Delights".

Specifically their Nonya Laksa (P235). I love that this dish is spicy and unique on its own. I love the texture of the noodles combined with the other ingredients (tofu, prawn, etc). Note that this is a messy thing to eat. I suggest you protect yourself by using their tissue as your bib 128523 looks weird but at least you look decent after 128521

Always liked the vibe of this place- all white and warm lighting. Not such a big fan of their super soft boiled eggs that come with their toast sets. I also find their french toast too buttery. I swear when I took a bite of the center part, the butter oozed out of my mouth uncontrollably. It was dripping down my chin and until now I still feel the umay. 128514 But other than that I really like their Milo Toast, Horlicks Dinosaur (iced vanilla malt) and Hot Choco! Do not miss the hot chocolate if you're up for a hot drink.
