I'm a BIG fan of breakfast food and I've seen pictures online of the dishes included in Toby's newest BRUNCH MENU (they all look so good) so I was SO looking forward to this visit. 128525

4 new dishes and we were all able to try them. 🤗

SALAMI AND CHEESE CROISSANT (290). Pepper salami, Manchego cheese, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce and tomatoes in a butter croissant.
- this is a good sandwich option that can be enjoyed anytime of the day - be it for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or for merienda when you need extra energy. 128521128521 I'm not a fan of cold sandwiches but this was just so good and so pretty, too! Loved the alfalfa sprouts, the lettuce and tomato.

LINGUINE PUTTANESCA (350). Classic pomodoro sauce with anchovies, olives, and capers tossed in linguine pasta.
- If you like red sauce pastas, you'll enjoy this one. I'm not a fan but I enjoyed this one. The pasta was cooked al dente and I liked how all the flavors worked together. 127837

CORNED BEEF AND HASH (350). Home-style corned beef hash, potato rosti topped with 2 sunny side up eggs.
- FAVORITE!! I'm biased because I love egg (egg is lyf! 128155) but I swear, this was goood! Reich and Cla also loved this! Hello comfort food x breakfast food! 🤗 I enjoyed eating this especially the perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs! Uhm, would just be better, in my opinion, if they were able to somehow lessen the saltiness of the corned beef (I just don't like anything that's too salty).

BRAISED CHICKEN IN WINE (250). Red wine braised chicken served with creamy mashed potato and mixed veggies.
- Another favorite! The chicken was so tender and flavorful! And the mashed potato, omg creamy! 🤤 If only they can add more carrots and less mushrooms I would love this more! 128521

For my drink, I decided to get my all time favorite Toby's Estate drink -- MOCHA!!! Originally ordered the hot version but because we took pictures first, I asked for ice hahaha! Iced mocha is pretty good naman pala though the latte version is still the best for me. 128540

In case you're looking for a good brunch place and there's a Toby's Estate near you, please try their new dishes. It's worth the try and not super pricey. No regrets. Btw, these dishes will only be available until September 2017 and in selected TE stores only. Hurry hurry! 128521128521

Let us start speaking coffee, shall we?

Tobys. Tobys. Tobys. Nope, i dont have Tourettes or anything. I believe in my heart of hearts that Toby's Estate makes the meanest cup of joe in the metro.

Tobys is adding another notch on their belt by offering something new....Brunch Baby!

Salami and Cheese Croissant (Php 290). This is a cold sandwich, put that on the record. Please refrain from raising your eyebrows if they serve this cold. This was a revelation for me as i never had a cold sandwich before, i was pleasantly surprised with the softness of the croissant. The pepper salami works well with the manchego cheese and the fresh veggies adds the crunch element.

Corned Beef and Hash (Php 350). Home-style corned beef hash, potato rosti topped with two sunny side up eggs. This is comfort food at its finest. This has two of my favorite things - corned beef and potatoes! The potato rosti is crunchy, flavorful and all sorts of wonderful. The corned beef is flavored well and has a mild hint of spice. And they know how to make the perfect sunny side up eggs. The yolk boasts a bring yellow hue and has the perfect runny consistency.

Linguine Puttanesca (Php 350). Al dente linguine pasta in Pomodoro sauce with anchovies, black olives and capers.

When it comes to pasta, sone prefer white over red, others dig oil. Well, i am a swinger. I don't have any preference. This is one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a while. The Pomodoro is legit, y'all! I can tell that they used fresh tomatoes for the sauce and they slow cooked it to perfection.

Braised Chicken in Wine (Php 350). Red wine braised chicken served with creamy mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. Another winning dish. The chicken is cooked in such a way that the flavors are embedded right though the bone. Every fiber of dem chicken is flavored to perfection. I loved the mushrooms x mash combination. Earthy meets creamy sort of thing.

Toby's Brunch Menu is available till September. You may visit the following branches:

| V Corporate Center
| Senta Condominium
| Shangri-la At The Fort
| Cyberspace Beta
| Viridian Greenhills
| Whitespace Manila

P.S. Hats off to Lhady Gonzales for being a generous host.

Good coffee, as always. Weird that the Cold Brew hasn't been available these past few days.

Servers can get a bit unresponsive, but I don't let that affect me. Jesus in, love out!

After trying the crabwich at Ooma. I need to find something sweet or anything that can eliminate the "malansang" taste of the crabwich. That's why I went to Toby's Estate Coffee Roasters, which is located at the vicinity of Shangri-la Fort in BGC.

Few customers were dining inside the bright and artsy coffee store. Cozy, indeed!

I got a Chewy Oatmeal Cookie for Php165.00 paired with Hot Chai Chocolate for Php160.00. I've waited around 5 minutes before the staff served the crafted hot drink (yeah with design) together with the cookie.

127851 Chai Chocolate - 1108811088110881108811088 5/5
"Very appetizing at first glance. The beautiful latte is thick and creamy. Not that "nakakaumay and nakakasawa"

127851 Chewy Oatmeal Cookie - 11088110881108811088 4/5
"Literally, it is chewy! The best thing about the cookie is the raisins which enhances the flavor. Best to be eaten while it's hot."

Overall, I had a wonderful time sipping my hot chocolate.

What makes a good grilled cheese sandwich??

According to the www, you should be able to choose the right type of bread and cheese. It is the most important thing you need to know. Once you've figured out the right combination, you'll have the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. And by that, you will know the difference between a good and a not so good grilled cheese sandwich.

Also, according to another article, it's more than just choosing the right bread and cheese. The acidity of the cheese also matters. The American Chemical Society explained that the cheese must have the "correct acidity" as this will affect the texture and how the cheese will melt (when the calcium and protein elements of the different types of cheese react together).

"The secret to getting the perfect cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich is to find one with the right pH to perfectly balance out the calcium and protein structure."

Anyway, for me, the perfect grilled cheese sandwich is something that is comforting. It's the ultimate comfort food!!!! It should have the "ahhhhhhhhh! 128525128513128557" effect. I want the same exact grilled cheese from the movie Chef. 128155

The bread should be perfectly toasted, there must be that "crunchy sound" when you bite into it, cooked with just an acceptable amount of butter (not too much that it becomes too oily), if possible, no mayonnaise (or at least very minimal amount added). I don't care how much cheese is added, I just want it to be cheesy without being too salty and I want the stretchy cheese when I slice it (Sorry for the long introduction! 128517).

FOOD 127860

So yes, I currently have a "Grilled Cheese obsession". It's back again and I want, no I need to try all the grilled cheese available!!

When I first had this "obsession", Toby's was already included on my list but it was only just recently that I was able to finally try it.

GRILLED CHEESE (295). Gruyere, Cheddar, and Parmesan in a ciabatta. Served with housemade potato chips and tomato compote.

Although not the best, TE's version is pretty good. But still far far from Borough's and Wildflour's. This is not a grilled cheese sandwich, just a sosyal Cheese Sandwich (blame the movie Chef!! 128518).

Bread: Not toasted. Soft.
Cheese: I liked the cheese, it's not too much. Just the right cheesy goodness.

The potato chips on the side was good though. Crispy and not salty. The tomato compote was weird? They should have just added tomato soup instead of the "compote".

SERVICE 128104🏼‍127859

Service was just okay. You need water? Hot sauce? Tissue? You have to ask for everything and wait for it. If you don't want to wait, go directly to the counter and don't raise your hand. 128530128517

PLACE 127968

A nice place if you want to study or finish work. Though crowded most of the time, it still not as noisy when compared to other coffee places. Plus the place is super nice and pretty. 128149

Been attracted to waffles lately and I think I found my ultimate favorite savory waffle to date! Presenting, Toby's Estate's Bacon, Pecan and Maple Waffle! Pegged at 195Php, the serving is not enough because it's super good!

Imagine - perfect waffle that's crispy outside, warm and soft inside, with crispy, salty and smoky bacon surprise inside some of the waffle squares, topped with lots of pecan chunks and drizzled amply with maple syrup. Boom! Perfect balance of salty and sweet! It's pretty good!

I also tried their Chocolate Chai - hot. Tried the iced version last time and it was good but the hot version was the best! It has a pretty latte art, that wowed even the lolo beside me LOL making him order one as well, dark chocolate flavor that was on the sweet, but not too much, side which went so well with the Chai. There was something soothing with the Chai aftertaste and I loved it!

Fell in love with Toby's Estate more! 128525

This branch of Toby's Estate is by far my favorite. The one in Makati is bigger and more spacious but there's something with the wall painting in this branch that appeals so much to me. Just by looking at the wall filled with painting of plants, flowers and birds gives me a certain peace and calmness. Maybe weird for you but it really has that kind of effect on me. I also love that this branch is well let with just plain white canvass for everything. The place in turn looks so well kept and neat.

Went here one afternoon, on a weekday and the place was not crowded. Great! I went for an iced drink since I haven't tried the iced version of their Mocha. Also got myself an order of their waffle. I have been wanting to try one for the longest time!

The Iced Mocha (170Php) was just okay. Tasted a little too watered down. There was still the strong coffee taste, the bitter chocolate but I think I prefer my Toby's Estate Mocha hot - thank you.

For the waffle, I got the Speculoos and Whipped Cream for 195php. The waffle was crunchy outside but soft and moist inside. I kind of tasted a hint of banana so I asked one of the server and he in turn asked their kitchen staff. They said that it was just the usual waffle ingredient - flour, eggs, etc., that they used with no banana at all. Hmmm... Anyhow, I loved their waffle. It included a good heaping of Speculoos on top.

I will definitely stick to the hot version of their Mocha next time but will try their Nutella and Banana Waffle.

Right after dinner at Fowlbread, Ony and I went here. I was excited to let him try Toby's Mocha and Calamansi Pie. 128154

I love Toby's Mocha!! It's one of the best. I love the balance of bitterness from the espresso and the sweetness of the chocolate. But I guess I was a little OA because although the Mocha was still good, there wasn't something extraordinary or special about the mocha during our visit. Not sure why!! 128557 Ony even joked that his mocha recipe is better than this one. Also the pie! 128529 Sadly, the Calamansi Pie wasn't as great, too. I remember loving it before but there's something off with the one we had. The consistency and taste was weird. Even the table beside us didn't finished their Calamansi Pie. 128546

I'm hoping and praying that this was just a weird bad day. I'll go back and try the Mocha and Calamansi Pie again next time because I still believe that they're the best!! 128529128546 And also, I must try the Pistachio Pie been hearing a lot of good reviews about that one! 128154

PS: 3 stars for now huhu 128546128529

This marks my second rendezvous with Toby this week.  I like this branch as it is very peaceful.  Majority of the patrons are yuppies glued to their laptop.  I haven't seen a representative of the hipster crowd.  This is the perfect place for some alone time for introverts.  Bibliophiles can relax while engrossed on their favorite book.

I picked Mocha on this visit.  The coffee is fantastic as always.  Trust me when i say that this is the best Mocha ever. I've tried the other coffee joints,  there are a couple that stood out but none of them comes close to Toby's.

Talk coffee to me,  baby.... Uhmmm Toby's Estate... Okay that was lame...we're still cool,  yeah?

When it comes to coffee,  no one comes close to the Toby's.  They make the meanest cup of joe!  I fell in love with Toby after my first sip of their mocha.  I fell hard and fast.

I got giddy when i found out that they're opening a branch at Shang.  I don't have to speed walk to Aura to get my Mocha.   I'm digging this branch as it is spacious compared to the ones I frequent and yes it is prettier than the rest. Easy on the eyes and very conducive to relaxing.  The color palate resembles a bed & breakfast i see in movies.  And oh,  they play good music - a lil Florence and Amy is always good.

| Chai Latte (Php 140)

I know what you're thinking...the opening statement doesn't relate my drink of choice.  I wanted to get Flat White but i needed to get some zzzz's hence i picked Chai.  And besides,  Toby can do no wrong,  i firmly believe that they can make a mean chai latte.

I was right!  The chai latte is dynamite.  Aromatic,  hmmmm...me likey cinnamon.  Perfect proportions of chai and milk.  I liked it so much,  i finished my drink in two big gulps,  i kid you not!

Let's try this one more time....  Talk coffee to me,  baby....Toby's Estate (this I say in my bedroom voice)

Peace Out!

It's been quite a while since I met up with Jayson J on the first day they opened. At the time the interiors were a little too stark for my taste, but the whitish walls did make the small space seem bigger. The big shelf was a nice focal point, and there were a few interesting knick knacks on display. I wonder if the Toby coffee table book is still there? That should be a good (albeit pricey) acquisition for book enthusiasts.

We all know how their coffee is; suffice to say, the quality is the same. I should stop getting their dark chocolate cookie though, it's too sweet even for a sweet tooth like me. My jaw feels like locking up just thinking about it 128518

They have their own washroom at the rear of the store, which everyone should appreciate.

Toby's Estate Coffee probably has the best Mocha I've had so far. Its chocolateyness was just right. It was served warm at a temperature where flavors can easily be noticed as it's not too hot.

As my caffeine tolerance is pretty low and I had the drink late in the afternoon, I was surprised that it didn't really keep me up the way I expected. I was up 'till about 2am but that's it. No palpitations.

The place is not as huge as the one in Salcedo but I actually like this more. Kinda cozy. 9786

I almost forgot how good Toby's Estate's coffee was as I haven't had the opportunity to visit their Salcedo branch in quite a while. I'm glad then that a nearer, more accessible branch opened near the office, recently.

I've been in their Shangri-la at the Fort branch multiple times and had the chance to order their Cafe Mocha, Cafe Latte and Original Bucky (on different instances 128522). There really is something about Toby's Estate's coffee flavors that's unique from what I'm used to ordering in other coffeeshops. The latte art was a fine finish--made me want to take my drink home, intact, and put it in a shelf for safekeeping 128513 I'm not an expert on third wave coffee, but this wave is definitely doing an amazing job in revolutionizing the coffee experience 128077🏼

It was my first time to try the Original Bucky as well. Complemented the drinks, but can be a tad too sweet at some point. Can do away with this next time.

Customer service was good in general, though they have staff members/cashier who were slightly aloof. Not a big deal though as the coffee, ambiance and overall experience offset this detail.

Looking forward to my next visit 128522

We availed a room only package in Shangri-La Fort, so I came back to Toby's Estate for breakfast. 128571

The barista recommended their Bacon, Pecan and Maple Belgian Waffle (Php 195) and I enjoyed it with a cup of their awesome Flat White (Php 150). It was the a great indulgent meal, indeed! The waffle was crispy and nicely cooked, and there was a generous helping of the bacon pieces and pecans and the maple syrup. The serving size was just enough as well. 128568

Again, I'm no coffee drinker but I loved their Flat White so much! It didn't need a lot of additional sugar, it was well balanced in terms of the cream to coffee proportion. I'm not a coffee connoisseur but I think the quality of their beans is exemplary! And I'm particularly in awe of how beautiful their latte art is! 128571

Apparently, they have a sister cafe here in Cebu with their coffee being served. I will definitely visit soon, and I can't wait to come back for another cup of coffee or Chai Chocolate here when I come back to Manila! 128571

My sister was so happy to know that there's a newly opened branch of Toby's Estate in Shangri-La at the Fort! This is my sister's favorite cafe. I can honestly say it's mine as well, and I'm no coffee drinker. 128568

My sister had her staple Iced Mocha and an order of their Bucky's and Cream. They're both so delicious! Mom had the hot chocolate and dad had the capuccino, both great as well. 128568

I ordered their Chai Chocolate and I absolutely loved it! It's an acquired taste for some, but for me the combination of the Chai Tea Latte and their awesome hot chocolate was excellent! I enjoy both drinks separately, but drinking it together was amazing! It was a nice pair to TE's sweets, too! 128571

Went here twice during our overnight stay in Shangri-La at the Fort. I'll write about it separately because it was a totally different experience! I hope they expand in Cebu and soon! 128571

Toby's latest branch is in my hood! Located in BGC at Shangri-la at the Fort's rear/walkway path, near Pink's and Brotzeit, I tried it around the tail end of its 1st week or 2nd week last July.

Alas, I think I tried it too soon.

They still had the wall decor covered so I didn't fancy the branch's incomplete look. It was certainly more compact than their branch in Salcedo Village and Ortigas Center. Though at least this had outside tables for the smokers, which was convenient (if the heat isn't a factor (then again, smokers will smoke under whatever if they "need" to, right? #speakingfrompastexperience) - - for smokers. 🙂

However due to the full house inside, and lack of a worthy view (plus I was also drained 128551 from the heat outside while exploring the Gourmand Market), I could only take this crappie selfie with the menu board and counter in the background. #MinsanLang

I decided to try their Iced Tea, Lemonada for the refreshing kick. It was actually quite good. A solid 4/5 though pricey at P140. Service was quick and friendly, so kudos for that. My wife's preferred Iced Tea, Passion Green, wasn't available, so she ordered an Iced Americano instead.

Anyway, there's a huge amount of coffee places in BGC so this is a more modest attempt by Toby's to establish itself in the Burgos Circle to 5th Ave area of BGC. Third wave coffee, this is not, but it's a solid choice in the area for those who love their fabulous brew/long black. I know I do. Sadly, no wifi unlike CBTL but not unlike most other coffee shops in country.

P.S. I do like the fact that they sell wine127863, RTD alco 🍾 (RTD = ready to drink, or what we locally call alcopop) so it's a more chill version of drinking place. Can't imagine myself drinking booze here, though. CAN YOU? Hahaha. 128540

(Sorry, a re-submission as I mistakenly reviewed Toby's Estate inside Edsa Shang but meant to be for BGC Toby's Estate. UPDATE: Last night, I saw their wall decorations are now visible, so I'm updating this review to 4 stars.)

Chai latte after movie

128204 sausage roll
This is way better than Starbucks. No air, no air. And the "sausage" was like embotido.

Chai latte is good as usual.
Minus one star because service kinda sucked.
The power outlets were malfunctioning on the other side. But the server told me the outlet near the door works.. And it did-- too bad not all are functional.

I just noticed the water refills here is not carried out. They do not care if your glass has ran out of water-- lemme compare this to their leviste branch which was Superb.

I went to the newly opened Toby's estate store in Shangri-la BGC. Luckily, there was a promo buy one take one on their coffee. Very very lucky! 128523

The servers were very accommodating and trying to find us seats since the restaurant was full. The restaurant was well lit with nicely decorated interior.

I ordered calamansi pie (P199) which I would say that it gave me disappointment at first because it was short and super thin but the taste did NOT disappoint. It in a form of a gelatin cream like consistency with graham and whipped cream on top and a little slice of calamansi. The taste was sour, it seemed like they placed generous amounts of calamansi. This dish is really worth it and a MUST order!

Next, I ordered cafe latte (P140). I could really taste the bitterness in there coffee. It doesn't seem to be diluted with water and the caffeine really kicks in after a few sips. Haha. 128516
